Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:07] Speaker B: We've reached an A. Deer. We were at the. The very bottom of. Of all of this. Also, Jake appears to be frozen. There he is. Okay, this is. So you remember how, like, geeked up on football we were for, like, the Broncos, and then Bo Nicks kind of was like ass.
And then we were geeked up for the Seahawks, and then Sam Darnold was ass.
[00:00:31] Speaker A: And then we're saying we were too geeked.
[00:00:34] Speaker B: My body is rebelling against too furious shout out. Ludicrous ATL legend.
[00:00:42] Speaker A: That's who I've seen perform, by the way, twice in the last year.
[00:00:47] Speaker B: What county fair were you at?
[00:00:49] Speaker A: One, it was at outside lands, and then two was at very corporate event at Oracle Park, Genen Fest or whatever.
Did the exact second for second, line for line.
Same set both times. Just. He's like, I'm sure you guys haven't heard this one before. Then plays baby with him and Justin Bieber.
A lot of Fast and Furious references did he do? Not a bad show, but not a great show. But you know what you're getting. You know what you're getting with him.
[00:01:19] Speaker B: Listen, it's. It's Luda in 2026. You gotta. You gotta lock in on the. The old timer. I mean, this is. He's basically like, here's how they put together that set list. They went to the Spotify Essentials playlist and just went bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.
[00:01:33] Speaker A: Have you ever seen him throw out the first pitch at the Atlanta game where he had the giant hand on.
Have you ever seen that video? You can look it up after.
[00:01:40] Speaker B: No, I'm gonna pause this stream right now because nothing has ever enticed me more.
[00:01:44] Speaker A: He's like an enormous prosthetic fish. Fake.
[00:01:47] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I'm familiar with. With the music video Fake Hands. I was unaware that he. He did a.
[00:01:52] Speaker A: He did throw out the first pitch with those on, and it was pretty awesome.
[00:01:55] Speaker B: Better than 50 cents first pitch.
[00:01:58] Speaker A: Nothing will top that.
[00:02:00] Speaker B: A moment of Mets lore.
[00:02:02] Speaker A: I've beaten 50 Cent in Connect 4, and I'll leave it at that.
It's not a joke.
[00:02:08] Speaker B: No, I know it's not a joke. And we will have to leave it at that.
Sorry, walked right into that one. Apologies. But going from having to watch the Washington Commanders to now having to watch the Atlanta Falcons is a jarring experience when you're also at the same time scouring practice squads around the league to see if there are bodies that could maybe be called up. By the way, my man Andrew Armstrong kicking ass for the Chiefs could Have. Could have been us. Could have been us talking to Andrew Armstrong this week.
If only someone listened to me. No one's taking my calls anymore.
[00:02:42] Speaker A: No one cared about the guy who's playing at Arkansas and leading the SEC and receiving.
[00:02:47] Speaker B: He was 25 years old at the time. And I'm like, the warriors don't seem to care about that. Why do you. Your team's oldest shit anyway. Why are you like, why are you getting all bogged down in age? You got key.
Mikel is going to keep the team.
[00:03:00] Speaker A: You should be playing until you're 40, right?
[00:03:03] Speaker B: Oh, no. They have no problem doing it with Keon Black. Not that they should. I'm just saying, like, oh, the. Andrew can't throw a seventh round flyer in on an old man who was kicking an ass. At least he was kicking ass in the sec.
Doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. It could have been us.
Let's just try our best here. And I'm going to start with Michael Penix.
Yep. Here's a very nice thing to say about Michael Penix. He made some of the coolest fucking throws I have ever seen. In watching the tape of this, the
[00:03:30] Speaker A: one to Dotson was unbelievable. So nice.
[00:03:35] Speaker B: Now he has perhaps the worst mechanics of any quarterback I have. Like this is Zach Wilson level mechanics, but he's got an absolute howitzer. Maybe I shouldn't be using that.
[00:03:47] Speaker A: And his torso is the other direction. It's just like it is.
[00:03:51] Speaker B: It is astounding. And so the very simple game analysis that I will provide, I will try to get deeper. But the very simple game analysis is if his feet are not perfectly set. And I'm not talking about like close or like in the vicinity. I mean planted in the ground with full cleats in the turf, being able to physically torque his upper body all the way around.
[00:04:15] Speaker A: If it is not literally 10 toes down.
[00:04:17] Speaker B: Yeah. If it is not perfectly set, there is no. He has no idea where that ball is going. No idea. Some of the, some of the inaccuracies then compared to some of the most beautiful throws you've ever seen. Yeah. Is amazing. Amazing. How bad is tua? If they're like, roll him out there. He doesn't know what he's doing.
[00:04:38] Speaker A: That was awesome to see. To come out and just you're like, this is. Everyone sort of instinctively is like he's. He's gonna throw an interception immediately, right. And then he does. I mean just.
[00:04:50] Speaker B: It had. It has the same energy of. When you watch that overtime with Baltimore, it has the same Energy of having somebody at like the dinner table at Thanksgiving who you know is maybe gonna say something and everyone's just like, just don't do it.
[00:05:08] Speaker A: This is how I felt. This is a deep cut. This is how I felt watching Braden Looper for the Mets in 2005. Coming off a pretty good season.
2005. He just, every single time he came out of the bullpen we're like, he's, he's gonna blow it. And I don't know if that's backed up by actual stats, but that's how it felt.
[00:05:32] Speaker B: It's, it's one of the, it's got to be one of the worst feelings in the world where you're like nothing good can come of this. We're just going to be tight the entire time. We're going to go full Cameron and if you gave me a piece of coal by the end of this inning, by the end of this overtime, it's going to be a diamond, baby. We are just gonna.
Shoulders are going to be way up here.
But he's probably not going to play or maybe he will. Who's to say anymore with the Atlanta Falcons. Pettix again going back all the way this season and just going through all
[00:06:03] Speaker A: of this Blue 8 saves that year, career high. I'm not crazy.
[00:06:07] Speaker B: No, no. I mean listen, most people have a pretty good intuition about who bad people in the bullpens.
[00:06:13] Speaker A: We all remember Braden Loop or we can move on.
[00:06:15] Speaker B: We all. Yeah, I mean come on. That goes without saying.
Going all the way back. Like it was interesting because he had a very nice game. This is. Penix had a very nice game against Green Bay who tried a bunch of interior blitz looks. He had a.
Didn't really actually have nice games and then he had just a God awful game against the Bears. And I'm just going to quickly aside and I mean this quickly we talked about the Bears a little bit last night with me, me and Larry on the Thursday night stream because they had just played a football game and I obviously keep an eye on the Bears because I'm from Chicago and all of my friends are Bears fans and want to talk about the Bears and for some reason still come to me for Bears opinions which I appreciate. It keeps me connected and so I've been watching them kind of on and I'm very. I told this to Larry last night. I think they're the second best team in the NFC because what Dennis Allen is doing on defense is the way
[00:07:16] Speaker A: we talk about Gordon back and he's sort of a Major force multiplier for him.
[00:07:21] Speaker B: He's huge. But, like, they don't have good football players on defense.
[00:07:26] Speaker A: Johnson's having, like, a career worst year for them right now.
[00:07:29] Speaker B: It's. He's really looking rough. He's looking. He's got an injury. He clearly just has an injury. I don't know how to really break that down anyway. But what Dennis Allen, who has always been a little bit of a mad scientist, is doing, and the way that he is just going all out, like kind of a.
A more controlled Brian Flores, it's like, what do we need to do this week? Because we will lose if I don't do something 100% this week. And last week, he gave everybody the blueprint. Not that it was going to be very difficult to find, but apparently it was. Jonathan Gannon couldn't find it.
The blueprint is edge pressure.
And so he went out. And again, everything that we say about Raheem, like, Dennis Allen's doing the same thing with the Bears with worse personnel.
He just loaded up the defensive line with eight dudes and just went, edge pressure, edge pressure, edge pressure.
[00:08:22] Speaker A: And they stunted a lot, too, and got home that way.
[00:08:24] Speaker B: Yeah. And Michael Penix was awful. And you might look at the score and say, I don't know, it looked like a pretty close game. The Bears pulled. Yeah, they pulled everybody.
[00:08:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:08:35] Speaker B: And their first defense kind of sucks. So what's their second unit going to look like? And the answer is a preseason team.
[00:08:41] Speaker A: And it. It. They got a lot of pressures in the way that, like, I've seen the 49ers get a lot of pressures over the last couple of weeks. Like, it looked very similar in terms of structure, in terms of, like, the linebackers mug. Like, who comes, how they actually get home and they attack the center and clear the center out of the play. And I'm like, I've seen the 49ers do this last couple weeks. Like, I just. It's hard for me to imagine that they're just offensive line plays really tough, like fixing protections mid seasons, like, rarely a thing that ever.
[00:09:10] Speaker B: It's even tougher when you start with Juwan Johnson at right tackle.
[00:09:13] Speaker A: Juwan Taylor? Yeah.
[00:09:15] Speaker B: Who's Juwan Johnson?
[00:09:17] Speaker A: He was. He's the tight end.
Oh, yeah.
[00:09:20] Speaker B: He's a good player. I like him.
[00:09:21] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:09:22] Speaker B: They should go get him.
No. Yeah. Juwan Taylor, our. Our false starting.
Our favorite false starting boy who says,
[00:09:30] Speaker A: I dare you to call it every play. You won't. And he's right.
He's done it. His whole career.
[00:09:36] Speaker B: It's unbelievable. No one has a better read. By the way, I found a little tick in the game film and then we'll move on from Pennix. When Pennix is under center, he false starts.
I'm not kidding. Yeah, he's under center.
The ball has not moved and he is going back before the ball's in his hands. It's not synced up. It's a technically a false start.
They don't call it very often.
[00:10:03] Speaker A: It's a block.
[00:10:04] Speaker B: It's a block.
[00:10:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:10:05] Speaker B: Braden Looper.
It is.
It's not going to get called. I'm just saying keep an eye out for it because it's like one of these weird things where it's just kind of annoying. Like travels in the NBA right where you see it and you know it is. But they're not going to call it.
[00:10:19] Speaker A: I'm sorry, I thought we had rules.
[00:10:21] Speaker B: Yeah, me, I thought that there was a whole big book this big of all the things and that there are eight men out there designated with finding them in a whole big video screen in New York City. But I guess we're just not going to call those.
It's. He doesn't go under center all that often because, again, movement is hard. But yeah, it was really funny watching it.
[00:10:44] Speaker A: Interesting.
[00:10:45] Speaker B: I don't know. It meant nothing. But I don't have a lot of deep analysis on this game other than you need to bring as many dudes off the edge as possible. That means whomever's playing Nickelback, obviously Romello height.
Not. I'm interested to see, I don't know, one way or another. So lay it on me if you have a strong take on this. Like, how does Mikel play in this game? Because either it's a totally dominant performance or he's kind of. I mean, it'll be good. Like, he's never bad, but like. Or it's kind of underwhelming. Like, does he get edge pressure or is he.
[00:11:22] Speaker A: I don't know.
I mean, I think it's both. I think the entire approach they want from him right now is to just like collapse the pocket a little bit on that side. But, like, you can't really have both guys because they've had that issue where then somebody escapes. But, like, his job is. Is to like, keep everything in front of him, which I think I think he will do.
But I do think he's not moving excellently.
And I think that in terms of Bijan, in terms of holding the edge, I might actually like Khalid Kareem. In some ways, better. I think he's just been, like, really good all around, and I think he's really physical and holds the edge. Well, Keon White, I think, is more of a concern at times with that.
[00:12:10] Speaker B: Yeah. He's a wild child where he just
[00:12:12] Speaker A: goes in and loses the edge. And I think containing that against Bijan, where they just, like. Like, I mean, that's their entire recipe. They run more than any other team in the league.
They go outside the tackles, so I guess they do.
[00:12:25] Speaker B: Can they run one inside zone? I mean, it's unbelievable.
[00:12:28] Speaker A: Do you remember when we talked to George Kittle a few years ago? Yeah.
[00:12:31] Speaker B: But that was a different offensive coordinator. Why did I know Tommy Reese, like, get a binder? And it's like, this is how we do things in Atlanta. Yeah. Like, I get it. Bijan, like, I would want B. John Robinson on the outside, too, but, like. And obviously they know that. They go nowhere without Bijan. Though I will say, Brian Robinson looking okay for them this year. Pretty good in pass pro pickup, which is effectively all he does because they're
[00:12:54] Speaker A: like, Brian Robinson, revenge game, man.
[00:12:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Regardless, it is.
They only run. Nobody loves a pitch to the right more than the Atlanta Falcons.
[00:13:05] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:06] Speaker B: And.
[00:13:07] Speaker A: And they try and screen it to him in a way that is just, like, harrowingly obvious.
[00:13:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:13] Speaker A: And it's still my innocent works at times. Right. Because Bijan's incredible, and if he gets,
[00:13:18] Speaker B: like, one block, he makes four people miss. So he's just.
[00:13:23] Speaker A: It's a little bit. It's not quite at the level of Messi, because nothing is that. But, like, when you would hear, like, the US Men's National Team guys talk about, like, well, we. Like, there were four of us, and we tried to, like, collapse on him at once and foul him. And you. You know, you just decide to foul a guy and it's over.
[00:13:39] Speaker B: And you know what that is, right?
It's. It's like a weird preternatural balance.
[00:13:45] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:13:46] Speaker B: And he's like a human gimbal. Like, he just can't not be square at all times, no matter what he does. And the best running backs have that.
[00:13:55] Speaker A: It's. It's genuinely. It's. When you would play in FIFA, you would look for the AA AB rating, where it was acceleration, agility, and balance.
And it's like all those things where it's like, yes, you need speed, but it's actually just, like, the short area. That's why Messi didn't pull any moves, because the ball is just attached to his foot. And like, Bijan is like that, where it's just, he's. It's almost like his reaction time is faster than anyone else's. Yeah. And every single movement he makes is quicker than you, so he can react quicker. And then he makes these little micro movements and then he gets up to speed faster than anybody else.
[00:14:27] Speaker B: He stops. He's a really. I mean, I don't need.
[00:14:30] Speaker A: Now, they did hold him to like 40 yards the last time they played last year.
[00:14:36] Speaker B: And I don't think that he's going to have a. How would I term this? Like, I think he'll get his. I also think that they'll get to him in the backfield a couple of times now.
[00:14:48] Speaker A: Yeah, I kind of think London will have a bigger game than Bijan in some ways.
[00:14:52] Speaker B: You mean Slants McGee?
[00:14:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:14:56] Speaker B: London is such a great player and I cannot wait for him to play somewhere that he's. I'm watching him and I'm like, oh, boy, that's young Mike Evans.
[00:15:05] Speaker A: He's so fun.
[00:15:07] Speaker B: He's. Wouldn't it be awesome?
[00:15:09] Speaker A: He has no business with some of the footwork where he's like, you know, breaking out and you're like, how did he. He's too tall to be moving like that.
[00:15:17] Speaker B: He's a really special player.
And they move them all around the formation and it's going to be. I'm deeply fascinated because there's two things that Raheem Morris now has to contend with. One, you have to have good tacklers on the outside because in that. And you're lucky in this game that Penix is not in a position where he's like challenging safeties outside of like deep long throws and that you don't need. They might play a lot of COVID 1.
[00:15:43] Speaker A: I don't know, feels pretty telegraphed where you're like, okay, pressure's not getting home. They're launching this.
[00:15:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, that's all it is. It is, it's very, it's very Ram Stafford esque where they just. It's big chunks and really good run, but it's not as good in the run game. And Penix is not Matt Stafford at his prime. He looks more like Matt Stafford now, which is to say probably not good enough, but you need really good corner tackling in this game. I don't know if you're going to be able to get linebackers free necessarily because they're probably going to have to be mugging. I think this is going to be a big Dre Greenlaw blitz game. Like they're just going to come back and just be like, you see nine. Go get them.
[00:16:26] Speaker A: Also, their, their Atlanta's defense is like horrific against playoffs.
[00:16:32] Speaker B: I want to, I want to hold the pin in that one. Yeah, let's. And then we'll get there.
[00:16:35] Speaker A: We'll get there.
[00:16:35] Speaker B: And then on the flip side of that, though, like, how do you manage London moving around the formation? Because you cannot put Upton Stout or I, I guess Ashton Davis on him. Like, that can't happen.
Is this a Jack Jones game where Lenore just comes inside because he can do more in terms of blitzing and you're better set up to handle the one receiver that you really have to worry about. Also Pitts, who lines up effectively as a slot receiver.
Yeah, him in line is rough. He's, he's, he's just fancy Gasecki at this point.
I, I'm fascinated to see what that is because you want Lenore as far out as possible for the run game, but you also want him as far in as possible for all the past game stuff. And I don't know how Raheem plays that game. I'm fascinated.
[00:17:27] Speaker A: Yeah. I wonder if they, they just do a lot of bracketing, you know, like they just.
[00:17:32] Speaker B: Because if we lose, we lose to Johan Dotson.
[00:17:36] Speaker A: Right.
Where you can have like, again, I'm going to just reference like Cody Alexander batch quarters who like, breaks.
[00:17:42] Speaker B: You should reference him all the time. He's incredible.
[00:17:44] Speaker A: There's like a Zeus tag where it's like, okay, the good guys over there, we're going to switch it to have a bracket on him. Like there's things teams can do to do that. And against Atlanta, I'm sort of like, try and do that as much as is viable to not break down your scheme. And also like, you're probably going to be able to get home.
And if they can't get home, then like, there's trouble. But I really.
Based on how Chicago did it and without like Brian Robinson, who's like not great but like is at least large, who's.
[00:18:17] Speaker B: Who's third? Let me check real fast.
[00:18:18] Speaker A: Third on their depth chart, the ghost of Tyler Algier.
[00:18:21] Speaker B: No, not even there. They don't have one.
[00:18:25] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:18:27] Speaker B: Khalil Herbert.
[00:18:29] Speaker A: Khalil Herbert and is on the practice squad. Miller.
[00:18:32] Speaker B: Oh, Jam Miller out of Alabama. I liked him. I thought he was a good player.
[00:18:35] Speaker A: Khalil Herbert, old friend.
[00:18:38] Speaker B: Old friend.
[00:18:39] Speaker A: Khalil Herbert, friend of the show.
[00:18:42] Speaker B: Charlie Warner is their blocking tight end. If he's in the game, you know exactly what's about to happen.
[00:18:49] Speaker A: There's a lot of, like, clearly dictated stuff with them where they do cool things, but it's like, I don't know, they're a frustrating team because you see a lot of potential there. And then they do cool stuff and then it's like either the protection breaks
[00:19:03] Speaker B: down or do you think they're well coordinated?
[00:19:10] Speaker A: It's hard to say. Yes.
[00:19:12] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:12] Speaker A: Confidently at times I'm like, oh, great coordination. And then other times I'm like, this feels stale. Yeah. And it really goes back and forth.
They're strange. Strange team.
[00:19:24] Speaker B: That speaks to personnel. Right. Like, it's one thing when I watch Atlanta or when I watch Washington, I'm like, I actually think that this is pretty cool stuff. They just don't have the right dudes for it. But when you're constantly like, is it the coach? Is it the players? It's usually the players, right?
Like, it's usually the players. Especially when you have one great one.
They don't have any rhythm at all in their offense. There's none.
And Kyle Pitts, under different circumstances, could be a monster. A monster.
[00:19:58] Speaker A: He's pretty good last year.
Yeah.
[00:20:01] Speaker B: Ish. It's all ish. And again, you're going off of the premise of what he was like the eighth pick in the draft or something. Like, high expectations. If it was some guy taken in the third round, you wouldn't be like, well, why can't they use Pittsmore? But he's such a special athlete.
But he's such a bad football player.
[00:20:20] Speaker A: Totally.
I'm. We're going to take question at the end, but I have to do this.
[00:20:24] Speaker B: Feel free.
[00:20:25] Speaker A: I feel like Price acts a better matchup for London just from a height, weight, speed, pov.
[00:20:29] Speaker B: No, he would die.
[00:20:32] Speaker A: I mean, you could have him where he's just like, tries to funnel everything to the sideline because that's his one skill set and just. But he's going to get flagged for so many penalties.
I do think in the red zone. This is what I've talked about.
[00:20:46] Speaker B: Love this idea.
[00:20:47] Speaker A: This is the game to do it against Drake London and say, we're just putting our other big corner out there and we're just going to say, like, listen, I don't know if you can do it, but just be. Just be large.
[00:20:59] Speaker B: And we know one thing about this game. He's going to be up.
They don't have enough dudes up. Yeah, they can't even.
Usually they're like, oh, we have to make this guy inactive. We can't Use them? Nope. All of their inactives. You can send the tweet right now. All 49ers beat writers. We know the inactives for this game because Evans is out, Bosa's out. And then they already had four or five guys who were out. Wallow and Gifford, nothing.
[00:21:24] Speaker A: We're going to have guys who can't play that are going to be technically active.
Yes.
[00:21:29] Speaker B: Who do you think they. Who do you think that is? Who do you think they keep active just for the sake of.
[00:21:33] Speaker A: Funny one. That's a funny one.
Like Evans out, Debo out.
[00:21:40] Speaker B: How about this? How about this? Do they.
Do they go through the contracts on the flight to Atlanta and be like, who has a per game bonus? And then do they them. Or do they. Or do they reward them?
[00:21:51] Speaker A: They reward the cheapest one, which they typically do at the end of the year. That's very funny. That's a very.
[00:21:57] Speaker B: I don't think we've ever. We have covered a lot of 49ers injuries, Jake. I don't think that we've ever been in this situation.
[00:22:05] Speaker A: Yeah, it's pretty bad. It's pretty funny.
[00:22:07] Speaker B: It's pretty bad. You get 46 and they're only going to have 45 guys which could even theoretically play.
[00:22:13] Speaker A: It had felt almost like a week or two ago, like things were getting a little better.
[00:22:16] Speaker B: No. Then they played more football. Right now, again, we'll take the questions on it, but like, let's just address the Bosa thing as it stands, because we're in here.
Apologies.
This is from Alberto.
Are they being extra cautious with Bosa or is his injury way worse than admitted? Porque no los dose.
Like, why, why?
Why can't both of those things be true?
[00:22:42] Speaker A: I think they'll never.
There's no circumstance in which they're like, yeah, it's actually gotten much worse. And it's because it's like already out.
[00:22:52] Speaker B: You don't need to make them more out.
[00:22:54] Speaker A: Right?
I don't know. It's the. It's. It's tough to like, read into the whole. The quad thing, but when I see those photos where his, like, one leg is substantially larger, there's just a, like a fundamental.
That. That can't be right. That's fundamental. Like, obviously imbalanced as a. Like, I just think some of that kinetic chain stuff is going to linger all year long.
And I mean, I just don't know why you would rush him in any way.
I just.
Did you just keep him benched until he's like, no, I actually have no pain. I feel good.
[00:23:31] Speaker B: Here's. Here's, here's what I think is actually happening.
I don't disagree with any of that.
Where are they playing this game?
[00:23:39] Speaker A: Atlanta.
[00:23:40] Speaker B: What does Atlanta play on AstroTurf. They're not playing them. They were never going to play them and they're not going to play Evans on AstroTurf. We are now back to Messi, baby. He don't play on AstroTurf. They're not playing him on AstroTurf unless they have to.
[00:23:56] Speaker A: Let's see how many games, by the way, they have cowboys on AstroTurf. Giants, the cursed one.
[00:24:02] Speaker B: Chargers.
[00:24:03] Speaker A: Chargers. And I think that's it.
[00:24:05] Speaker B: No, Cardinals have natural. They put it outside. Yeah.
[00:24:09] Speaker A: Cardinals are. Cardinals.
[00:24:10] Speaker B: Seahawks. Seahawks. Oh, that's at home. Sorry.
[00:24:13] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:24:15] Speaker B: Not bad.
[00:24:15] Speaker A: That's not bad.
[00:24:16] Speaker B: Not bad.
Better than the. The South. Whatever. So I, I think it's the astroturf thing is the. Is the tiebreaker, if there was ever even close to a tie.
[00:24:25] Speaker A: Yeah. I was also, like. It didn't. I know. I don't know. It didn't feel like he was coming back this week.
[00:24:31] Speaker B: No. Well, he hadn't practiced right. Usually there's a. I don't know.
[00:24:35] Speaker A: There's also, like, there's just zero urgency. There's a bye week coming up. The idea, I don't know, it just never made any sense for me for him to come back, especially given how the D line's playing. Like all the places you really need help in the immediate term. That hasn't been it.
[00:24:48] Speaker B: No. That's too long of a list.
[00:24:50] Speaker A: Which is hilarious. That, like, the D line has just been incredible after losing all those pieces.
[00:24:55] Speaker B: Maybe wide receiver is the same thing. They just injure themselves to a point of competence or even excellent.
[00:25:00] Speaker A: I feel like Christian Kirk just, like, needs to play a fundamental, like, important role in this offense this week.
[00:25:06] Speaker B: Do we have any concept of what Christian Kirk will be, could be, should be?
No, no, I have.
[00:25:11] Speaker A: No, no. I won't even pretend that I do because they don't know.
[00:25:15] Speaker B: I think they're just going to play him in the branding cooks role.
[00:25:19] Speaker A: Like, they're probably just showing him film. They're like, look how Brandon ran that route. Don't do that.
[00:25:24] Speaker B: Don't do that.
How can. After. I understand how it's.
It's one of those things where it's like, of course he's having problems running this very specific offense, but it's also like, he did 13 years, man.
Like. Yeah, yeah, of course.
[00:25:42] Speaker A: Remember, remember, by the way, when I said wide receiver might be a strength of this team this year.
[00:25:47] Speaker B: It was legitimately. It was at one point. The fact that they still have wide receivers that are theoretically NFL caliber is incredible given the level of attrition.
[00:25:58] Speaker A: Such a sick like IR list. Stribling Ricky Pierce, all Christian Kirk Brennan. I.
He was on the list.
[00:26:10] Speaker B: Yeah, he is technically on the list.
You know this. This from Kawachipdo. Brock seems excited to play with Christian Kirk. That's because Brock grew up in Arizona and he saw Christian Kirk when he was good for 50 something receptions a year. 77 in 2021. I mean.
[00:26:29] Speaker A: I mean he's a good player.
[00:26:31] Speaker B: He was a good player. I don't know if he was ever like a special player, but he was a good player. He was part of that.
That contingent of itty bitty boys that the Cardinals put out there.
[00:26:42] Speaker A: That's right.
The door chive.
[00:26:44] Speaker B: The door chive. Yeah. Again, could have been us. Could have been us talking about Greg Dortch right now. Still can be.
[00:26:52] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
[00:26:53] Speaker B: Okay. So why the wide receiver situation now? We're flipping over now. Now we've completely switched to defense offense.
[00:27:01] Speaker A: There we go.
[00:27:03] Speaker B: Evans is out.
Jacob cowing still on the roster. That tells you how bad the wide receiver situation is where they're like we can't cut him.
[00:27:13] Speaker A: He's done every sure will be up again.
[00:27:15] Speaker B: Who's that?
[00:27:16] Speaker A: Malik Turner. I'm sure he'll be another hive.
[00:27:19] Speaker B: Watkins.
Nothing but clear out routes. Now here's the real question. I think that again Kirk takes the Brandon Cook's role mainly because they have the same size bodies. Cowing is used in a sparing manner only if they have to.
[00:27:34] Speaker A: Everything within 15 yards of line of scrimmage and occasional clear outs.
[00:27:39] Speaker B: Maybe Watkins is the X receiver on clear outs.
They don't have anyone who they're not going to run any like skinny posts. But I do wonder if Brock knows like there is no Mike Evans. There is no alternative.
[00:27:54] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:27:55] Speaker B: I'm just going to have to rip some down the seam and what comes of it may come like all that hesitation. I'm feeling justified, validated.
Can't. Can't have it.
[00:28:05] Speaker A: Do they just do the Brock Bowers, Michael Mayer and put Kittle as a true receiver and. And let you know.
[00:28:14] Speaker B: They tried it. They tried it last week in the second half against Washington. It looked like crap.
[00:28:19] Speaker A: Yeah. No, I don't. It's not good. It's not a great idea.
I'm just.
[00:28:24] Speaker B: I mean.
[00:28:24] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean their options are pretty bad.
[00:28:27] Speaker B: How about this, I would rather see, like, Braden Willis out there as the wide guy.
[00:28:32] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:32] Speaker B: I don't think he'd be good at it. But, like, as you mentioned, I think we talked about this in the post game of Washington. Like, Kittle doesn't have the wiggle.
He. He's. He's out here looking.
[00:28:44] Speaker A: He does, but it's not consistent. It's. And it's not what it was.
[00:28:47] Speaker B: He's out here looking like Kate Otten, and that's fine because, you know, better
[00:28:50] Speaker A: blocker, but, like, once he gets moving, it's good, but it's not.
There's still the footwork, but it's. It's not, like, smooth. And, I don't know, he has to use a lot of physicality to push
[00:29:02] Speaker B: off and break out, which, you know, actually you probably can get away with in this game. Divine Diablo is a.
He's beyond a sitting duck. I mean, he is. He's like a duck decoy at this point.
[00:29:12] Speaker A: I really. It's funny, Atlanta, this defense, it's, like, not a bad front. Like, they're. They're. They do a lot of good work. Yeah, they've got some cool players, but, like. And. And I actually like how they're. Diablo.
[00:29:29] Speaker B: I should have checked the Falcons injury report. Let me just do that.
Sorry. You do like their secondary mainly because you love Terrell's.
[00:29:36] Speaker A: Yeah, I love Terrell's, and I think both Terrells are coming back this week.
Yeah. So, by the way, Falcons out. Brian Robinson, Divine Diablo, Billy Bowman, who's kind of like. I think they're a nickel who went to ou, I believe, little itty bitty guy.
And then they have a lot of questionable guys to Ron Dexter.
[00:29:57] Speaker B: Oh, boy.
[00:29:57] Speaker A: Abu calm. Darius Smith, A.J. terrell, Evian Terrell C.J. henderson, Kendall Daniels Williams, Bo Collins, Zacchaeus. Yeah, but a lot of those guys are, like, gonna play and are just, like, listed as questionable. Just, you know.
[00:30:13] Speaker B: Remember Dr. Zayas from the Simpsons?
[00:30:16] Speaker A: Yeah. It's like, if anyone is, like, a full participant on Friday, it's like, Kendall Daniels will playbo Collins.
[00:30:21] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:30:22] Speaker A: You know what I mean? I imagine Dexter's gonna play. I imagine Abu Khan's gonna play. What.
[00:30:27] Speaker B: What would the Niners not give to have Bo Collins on their team right now?
[00:30:32] Speaker A: They'd give a. It would give a little. They wouldn't give a lot, but they'd give a little.
Looks like Zadarius Smith is probably back.
And, yeah, A.J. terrell is probably back as well.
[00:30:42] Speaker B: So you sent me a text in our film back and forth being like, I know you really like Jeff Ulbrich, but, like, this defense is totally gettable.
I never said that the defense wasn't gettable. I'm just saying I like Jeff Volberg. I think it's a well coordinated defense. That doesn't mean that they're good. Yeah, like, there is a. There is a threshold there. Like, it's one.
There are a couple coordinators who can apparently take average and make it really good.
Jeff Ulbricht is doing the most, and they did this last year with Raheem taking bad and making it average. And for a time at the beginning of the season, looked really good. But he. He is having to do everything for this defense right now. And every now and again, it looks really good and it clicks and he'll have a really good game plan here, I imagine. Has a lot to do with the fact that Brock Purdy does not want to throw to any of these gentlemen who are standing out wide.
[00:31:33] Speaker A: But they. They just. They try and play coverage as much as they can. They don't blitz a lot. They get home a. Because they've. They've, again, like, Dexter's played really well. And it's funny. They didn't stunt a lot, but typically they do on, like, third downs. But, like, not last week. Last week, they were, like, very basic and straightforward.
Yeah, it feels comfortable. They did lose a lot of people.
[00:31:56] Speaker B: It feels comparable in the sense that, like, Caleb holds on to the ball a lot longer than Brock does, but, like, they. They still have. I mean, talk about wiggle. Both of those guys are a little. Little spitfires back there. Caleb's pretty big.
[00:32:08] Speaker A: But by the way, did you like how I texted you? And it seems insane, but, like, literally on, like, the third play of the game or something. Yeah, there was a throw where it was like, oh, that setup looked pretty good for hook and ladder. And I. I texted you the very next play. The Bears called a hook and ladder. Yeah.
[00:32:27] Speaker B: Ben Johnson's insane.
[00:32:28] Speaker A: Where I was, like, I was just astounded because it was, like, pretty. It's one of those things, like, sometimes you watch and you do the fan thing. You're like, oh, what if they ran this? And then they do run it and you feel like a genius.
But there's. Yeah, there's a lot of plays. There's a lot of space just available on the edges. There's a lot of, like, one guy, one corner is all alone on an island. And the safety. I don't know, it's. And. And this is after me saying, I like how the secondary is coordinated. I just.
[00:32:55] Speaker B: They don't have. They don't have very good. They don't have playmakers.
[00:32:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:32:58] Speaker B: The entire thing is, if the scheme breaks down in any way, if one guy messes up, it doesn't work. They don't have playmakers. And when you don't have playmakers and the other team does, which is debatable, that's your difference. And the Bears got playmakers now. Like, they got a quarterback as a playmaker. They got playmakers on the outside.
They have playmakers on the inside. They got a decent enough offensive line, and that was your difference. 49ers have a playmaker quarterback. Maybe a playmaker at running back still. I mean, like, certainly not what he was. But I.
Yeah, I want to be fair. Like, he's definitely better than most.
Maybe a playmaker at tight end.
[00:33:37] Speaker A: Yeah. I think we're gonna get some Harold Perkins, who is. Has had some cool moments for them, who I hated because his effort level was just astoundingly low in college. But, like, also a freak athlete, where you're like, this should be an awesome player.
Yeah.
[00:33:54] Speaker B: He doesn't. I don't think that. I don't think that he sees it. I don't think that he feels it. I think.
[00:33:58] Speaker A: Yeah, this.
[00:33:59] Speaker B: They moved him around a couple times at lsu.
[00:34:01] Speaker A: This is all to say, they ran the ball against them last year. That's when they broke out the dash and duos. Dieter and I. I feel like our best work was us recognizing exactly what was happening in the moment we talked.
[00:34:12] Speaker B: Fundamentally changed the run game.
[00:34:14] Speaker A: They fundamentally changed their run game because they knew exactly what they were going to do, and they were happy to talk about it because they're like, we had the exact game plan that we knew what they were going to do. They did what we thought they. And we ran duo against them. And they're still very gettable against duo. C teams. Go duo. Bounce it outside. And. And it's just like, I just think this is a game where, given the personnel the 49ers have, they're going to have to run the ball.
[00:34:39] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:34:39] Speaker A: And I think they can. Despite the Falcons having, like, this great EPA against the run game and the fourth fewest yards per game. That's not how they look on tape.
[00:34:49] Speaker B: No, that's because they got to play the packers.
Like, yeah, full stop. They got to play the packers and the Saints who can't run the ball.
You and me could be a defensive tackle and they couldn't run the ball.
[00:35:00] Speaker A: So, like, it looks like a bunch of outliers. And the reality is they're not a good run defense at all.
[00:35:07] Speaker B: Could they stop the run last week against the Bears?
Yeah.
[00:35:11] Speaker A: Look like it?
[00:35:12] Speaker B: No. Who has the best run designs in the NFL right now?
[00:35:16] Speaker A: Probably the 49ers.
[00:35:18] Speaker B: Okay.
Ben Johnson. Ben Johnson has consistently both with the lines. I'm not. I'm not trying to glaze Ben Johnson here, but just. Just as a point of reference, nobody gets more space in the run game design wise with his offensive lines than Ben Johnson last year with the Bears or before that with the Lions when they had a better offensive line.
The guy creates lanes for even DeAndre Swift to run through. Imagine what happens if he ever.
[00:35:44] Speaker A: Yeah, he's been much.
[00:35:46] Speaker B: He looks great.
[00:35:46] Speaker A: I expected.
[00:35:47] Speaker B: Yeah, he looks great. You know why? Because he did a Ben Johnson offense with a good offensive line.
[00:35:52] Speaker A: Interesting what happens without commit with them because he's like a pretty major component of what they do. And yeah, a lot of the times, like, some plays got blown up when they tried that hook and ladder. Should have been a huge play. Guess who missed a block. Colson Loveland. Guess who missed a block on another run play. Colson Loveland. Like, yeah, he can't play like true tight end. Like, he can't do the commit acts.
[00:36:14] Speaker B: He's more of like a Tyler Warren than he is. Yeah, like a George Kittle, which is fine as long as you have a. A true Y tight end.
Your man Sam Raush out of Stanford is now that guy for the Bears.
[00:36:28] Speaker A: He's a. I wish.
[00:36:30] Speaker B: I wish the Bears and the 49ers would play at some point in, like, late November. Like, can they just switch out the Giants on December 6th and just have the Bears play that game? Because I would. I want to see that. And I'm afraid that I can't say with certainty that we're going to see it in the playoffs. I think both of the teams make the playoffs. I think that. But, like, you don't know what you're getting by the time you get to January with either of these teams. By the way, Niners can't even make it to November.
[00:36:56] Speaker A: The Giants, who currently lead the NFC east five games from. From now until when the 49ers play them. Like, what do you think the Giants record is by the time they play? They're 3, 2 and 1 right now
[00:37:09] Speaker B: with 1 plus 8 at quarterback.
[00:37:13] Speaker A: That's right.
[00:37:16] Speaker B: I think they have four wins when they play the 49ers on December 6th.
[00:37:20] Speaker A: It's probably what I would guess too.
[00:37:21] Speaker B: I don't even have to look at their schedule. Who are they playing?
[00:37:24] Speaker A: It doesn't matter. Every. It's, it's. Every game with them is a weird bottle game.
[00:37:29] Speaker B: Not a well coordinated team. That's a clearly not well coordinated team.
Now Raiders, very well coordinated. Excited to break that film down. We'll get back to getting football geeked for. For reference, they play the Texans this weekend. Then the, the Shell of the Eagles, then the Commanders, then the Jags, then the Colts, then the Niners. It might be two. They might get two in there.
They're getting, they're getting the Eagles, the Commanders and the Colts. I mean, they're losing to the Texans, they're losing to the J.
Boy, that is. Maybe I just need to put a little block on my calendar right now. Like this week is going to suck when I have to watch Giants film.
No fun. Okay, Falcons defense.
The. The position that I have taken is that the Niners like to tell you what they're going to do next week, the week before, whether it's conscious or subconsciously.
[00:38:22] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:38:23] Speaker B: Now I'm going to go back two weeks in this case, which was 49ers go up to Seattle and they just said, offensive line, today is your day. We're going to win. We're going to win in the trenches. It was like a manhood game, which happened very rarely in the NFL.
[00:38:41] Speaker A: They just ran outside zone. They just ran their staples.
[00:38:45] Speaker B: But they. The only way you can effectively do that is if your offensive line is moving, dudes.
Now, Connor Colby was moving in a different direction, but that's neither here nor there.
They are going to take the exact game plan offensively from the Seattle game and iterate it here against the Falcons. I imagine it will go better. I'm not particularly enthused that it will go well. I think that this could be clunky as hell unless a receiver wants to. Unless Brock and Watkins develop some chemistry off the jump and he's like, okay, now I can rip that because those. That skinny post is going to be there against everybody. There's a reason Kyle's put it in the game plan. It's there against everybody. And if he can rip off in the first quarter a 25 yarder to Watkins, that fundamentally changes the game. But if they're searching for that for the entire game, it's like Kalon Black, you're getting a lot of run today, Bubs, because we are not throwing.
[00:39:40] Speaker A: It's like I keep going back and forth on whether they just like Ride McCaffrey.
But it also feels like it's a good game where they're gonna. If they're. If the right things are happening, they're. Kalon Black's gonna run the ball, like 10 plus times, which kind of seems wild, but, like, if that's how this goes, how it should go, he should have a lot of touches. You think.
[00:40:03] Speaker B: You think we get 32 in this. This game?
[00:40:06] Speaker A: Not points, touches, the 32 runs.
[00:40:10] Speaker B: No. 32 personnel.
[00:40:12] Speaker A: 32 personnel.
No. But it's fun to think about.
[00:40:18] Speaker B: That would be Kittle.
So you'd be in a. You'd be in a split tight end look.
Or not. You can load it.
No, you can't. I don't think that you can actually buy the rules loaded up to the tight ends on one side. But it would be Kittle and.
Kittle and Feral at the ends and.
[00:40:37] Speaker A: Great. Yeah.
[00:40:38] Speaker B: And then you would have Juice, Black, and McCaffrey all in the backfield and then one wide receiver on the line.
[00:40:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Right.
[00:40:51] Speaker B: Can you even get a wide receiver?
[00:40:52] Speaker A: Does that math work?
[00:40:53] Speaker B: I don't.
[00:40:53] Speaker A: I don't know if you can.
[00:40:54] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:40:55] Speaker A: 5.
[00:40:55] Speaker B: I'm sure someone will tell us.
[00:40:56] Speaker A: No, I don't think you can. There's no wide receivers in that formation.
[00:40:59] Speaker B: Okay. How about this? That's a better way of looking at it. Can we get zero wide receivers at some point in this game?
[00:41:05] Speaker A: I'd like to see that.
[00:41:06] Speaker B: I would like to see it, too.
And not a goal line like at the 30.
[00:41:10] Speaker A: Yeah. They should do that in the middle of the field and just run a flying V. I don't know. It's.
They're making it difficult to get up for these things because you end up talking about Jordan Watkins, and it's. It's not that interesting. And. And I just think it's going to be a tough game for both teams. It's going to be ugly. Yeah.
But the 49ers could also get running on the ground, and they could also get gashed. Like, I talked about, like, kind of liking their run defense, but it's very easy for, like, Bijan to just, like, break one.
[00:41:42] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:41:43] Speaker A: Although, like, Dre Greenlaw's coming back and might commit a war crime, which is on the table.
[00:41:49] Speaker B: Yeah. I have a. I have a very bad feel. Like, most games. I'm like, okay, there's obviously a million possibilities here.
[00:41:56] Speaker A: They've never had a good feel themselves with Atlanta. It's always been that every single time they play. It's like a weird vibe to. It now, last year, they did. They knew exactly what was coming, but that's because, like, Raheem was the defensive coordinator and they ran the exact same stuff.
[00:42:12] Speaker B: Yeah, both of those teams knew each other perfectly. So that all the Niners had to do is do the opposite of everything they've ever done before. And it worked wonderfully.
I mean, to be fair, it's not as if Raheem doesn't have a good feel for what it is Ulbricht wants to do, so he'd be very helpful.
Kyle is seeing this. It's just a question of personnel. I don't question if Brock can handle it. I don't question if even McCaffrey. It is just a question of do you have a wide receiver that you can consistently throw the ball to at
[00:42:42] Speaker A: any level they run read option this game. I think they do. I think they do it a couple
[00:42:46] Speaker B: times from shotgun or pistol.
Pistol has been very effective against Atlanta. It's a weird thing that I noted. I'm not sure if it's true or not.
[00:43:02] Speaker A: Or you could just do the thing. They've done it like, once or twice, I feel like where they've run like a boot action from under center, but they. Then they just have Brock run.
Yeah, yeah, I could do that.
[00:43:13] Speaker B: You could do that. They.
They're not so bad as if you can't. They're. They might not have a dude hanging out there on the edge.
[00:43:21] Speaker A: No, I mean, I'm not saying this should be a major part. I'm just trying to come up with interesting little wrinkles that are. That'll entertain me as I think about this game.
[00:43:28] Speaker B: Well, I'll tell you. I'll tell you one thing I know that they're going to do is they're going to do a lot of those Trent on an island screens, and they're just going to try to isolate the defense all over here. And then McCaffrey or Black or Juice or Kittle.
[00:43:46] Speaker A: Is it screens that should have done a lot more damage than they did because it does a thing where it takes a quarter of a second too long and then Brendel or Colby or whoever is just a little bit too far, and then somebody's getting pushed in the wrong direction.
One of my favorite snaps this is not an insight, but was when Trent dominated somebody, but he threw them into Kalon Black.
[00:44:08] Speaker B: Right.
[00:44:08] Speaker A: Did you see that? And he went, oh, no.
[00:44:13] Speaker B: Why was I blessed with these powers?
It's the monkey's paw.
[00:44:17] Speaker A: You got to have at least one. You got to have at least one Play where, like, Trent is just, like, lead blocking out in space on one person.
[00:44:25] Speaker B: Jake, do you get the distinct impression that the 49ers are very comfortable losing this game? Because I kind of do.
[00:44:32] Speaker A: I. I think they'd prefer not to lose it.
[00:44:35] Speaker B: I mean, I think that's fair.
I think they would like to win it. I think that they're comfortable with losing it.
[00:44:41] Speaker A: Yeah. It certainly doesn't feel.
I bet Kyle doesn't share that sentiment.
[00:44:49] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't know if they've had enough time to really process it either. Again, we. We sketch. We looked at the schedule in April, and we're like, oh, they're losing in Atlanta.
Short week, two weeks after kind of a double gauntlet in Atlanta. 10am Body clock by week, the next week.
I will say this right now. If they end up winning this game, the level of stones, cojones, and character this team has cannot be questioned under any circumstances. Not that it has been. Not that it should be, but, like, what level of professionalism is needed to win this game?
[00:45:28] Speaker A: 100%, because this is kind of the super bowl for Atlanta right now. Like, they're two and four. They're reeling. They've played pretty bad after, like, occasionally looking, like, awesome.
[00:45:39] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:45:40] Speaker A: Which is how they always do. It's like, oh, this is going to be the year. And then it's like, oh, wait, no, it's not.
[00:45:45] Speaker B: When Falcons, when we were watching all 22, they. They have. Whenever they were close to the end zones, this Mercedes Benz stadium, which I have not been to, but I hear is really, really nice and very poorly named for the week, is they have, like, the stands really collapse in on kind of the corners.
And I legitimately, a couple times in watching, like, end zone, near the end zone tape, saw Atlanta fans and went, oh, you. Like, I feel pity for them. I feel pity for Atlanta Falcons.
[00:46:16] Speaker A: Tough team to root for.
[00:46:17] Speaker B: They're not even, like, Browns fans, where it's like, we have to develop a whole culture around losing. And, like, there's something, like, noble about it. Like, Atlanta fans. It's not. It's just forgettable. You're just. You're. You're buying into something that's irredeemable, inherent.
[00:46:32] Speaker A: Yeah. And they get stuff that, like, forces them to care. Like, you have to care because B. John Robinson's the sickest running back in the league.
[00:46:40] Speaker B: They're just competent enough to loop you in. And.
[00:46:43] Speaker A: Yeah, we got Stefanski, like, let's do it right.
[00:46:48] Speaker B: We got the Browns coach.
[00:46:50] Speaker A: Yeah. I think it's funny. I can't pick the 49ers to lose. But I, I really like, would not be shocked for their, you know, it's like, because you do the thing of like, oh, the 49ers are 6, 0 on top of the division like that. It just feels like they're going to go into the buy and that's going to be no longer a three game lead over Seattle.
[00:47:10] Speaker B: Are you, are you, are you ready for my score prediction? I'm happy to do it right now. 18, 18 tie.
[00:47:16] Speaker A: Ooh.
[00:47:19] Speaker B: I, I think that there are far more universes where the 49ers win this. I just think that this entire game needs to be shot into the sun by the end of it. And I felt like this was the most fitting way to represent that feeling, which is an 18.
[00:47:33] Speaker A: That's a beautiful sentiment. Yeah.
[00:47:36] Speaker B: It's just at some point Atlanta's going to be like, oh, he's not throwing it downfield.
So let's just commit everybody here. And then maybe it's the Jordan Watkins game. Like legitimately, every fiber of my being tells me this is the Jordan Watkins game and that it all, it looks incredible. And Larry's doing victory laps and then we never see him again.
That's what my body tells me. My mind cannot, cannot get there.
[00:48:03] Speaker A: 1818's awesome. I'm gonna predict scoregami. Oh, 2518.
[00:48:08] Speaker B: 2518 has never happened.
[00:48:10] Speaker A: Isn't that crazy? 2518. It's a free space on the score gummy board.
[00:48:15] Speaker B: That's not, that is, that's impossible. 25:18. Okay, so what would, what would be the circumstance of 25 18? So we're dealing with two point conversions or a safety somehow?
[00:48:25] Speaker A: Either. Six field goals on one side, a
[00:48:30] Speaker B: one point conversion, a reverse safety on a two point conversion. Try that you return to the house.
[00:48:35] Speaker A: Yeah. So you could have, let's say a touchdown.
You could have a touchdown and then a missed extra point. Right. And that'd be. And then it'd be 9, 9, 12, 15, 18. That gets you to 18 on the Atlanta side and then 25. There's a lot of ways to do it. 7, 14, 21.
You need a two point conversion and then, and then, and then a field goal.
So it is a weird one. It's weirder than it would seem.
[00:49:07] Speaker B: Yeah, it's a very. Yeah. This is why they have those charts for two point conversions. Because you just think, hey, this is, this is spot on from Devin. Four touchdowns, three missed extra points. That's how you get it, baby.
[00:49:19] Speaker A: Frankly, that's More.
[00:49:21] Speaker B: Way more direct and far more plausible.
That's exactly right. Yeah.
Yeah.
If. If Jordan. If my body is correct and my mind is like, man, Brock doesn't want to do that. But, like, it's that. It's gonna be there. It's gonna be that. Will it ever happen? Who is to say? But it is present and possible.
[00:49:41] Speaker A: I hope to see it.
[00:49:43] Speaker B: I would like. I would like to see it too. It's not just this week. It's also next week that Larry gets it. So I'm rooting for Lair. Who did say that Dennis Allen needed to be fired yesterday?
[00:49:54] Speaker A: Just.
[00:49:55] Speaker B: Just.
[00:49:55] Speaker A: Come on, man.
[00:49:56] Speaker B: For the record, man, I just keep a list. I literally, like, I don't take that many notes, but, like, I just keep a list of just all the things
[00:50:03] Speaker A: while you're going catatonic.
[00:50:06] Speaker B: Last night was a tough one, man.
Okay?
We've never had any semblance of decorum on this podcast, so why start now?
Every now about every, like, couple weeks, I'm like, man, I feel like crap.
And then I walk around and I feel like crap for about 18 hours. I'm like, yeah, maybe I should sleep. And I sleep, and I still feel like crap and this and that. And then what I do is I realize, oh, I'm allergic to, like, some things that really only pop up every now and again, like ragweed. And so then I feel like crap for a day and a half, and then I look it up and it's like ragweed at an all time high. It's like, oh, yeah, I'm allergic to that. But it doesn't come up enough to, like, I'm not. It's not a normal semblance of my day to be like, what is the ragweed? That until I take my allergy medicine, I feel like crap. And I just take, you know, the. The $2 over the counter allergy medicine. I literally have felt it kick in in this show. So I might have to rewatch all this tape because I might have a very different opinion now. But it, like, I would say about 35 minutes in, I'm like, oh, I was just allergic to ragweed because it rained, like, and that's a thing.
[00:51:13] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:51:15] Speaker B: So that's where I'm at.
[00:51:17] Speaker A: I love that for you, the buy
[00:51:18] Speaker B: week cannot come soon enough. No, within 1818 title.
[00:51:22] Speaker A: It's just. It's just brutal. It's like, it's because so many teams have, like, there's like, a clarity to what they're trying to do. And in some ways, Atlanta provides that Right. Yeah. Like, they do some.
They've got some cool players in the secondary and they acquired Dexter and they have, like a fun front and it's like a level of like, straightforwardness in terms of like, they don't blitz a lot and let's play coverage. And then the offense is like, let's get it to our cool playmakers and throw it quick and just put the ball in Bijan's hands.
[00:51:54] Speaker B: They are. It's the exact same thing we were talking about last week. The Washington commanders are like 16th and the Atlanta Falcons are either 15th or 17th. They can't. This is. This is how every. Most every other NFL team just operates. They're just like, they're good enough to win, they're good enough to lose. And here's the issue. The 49ers for all of this season, despite my naysaying, have operated up here where it's like, so long as we play our game, we're winning this game. So long as we bring it at a reasonable level, we're winning. And now they're so injured that they're kind of hanging out right here.
[00:52:32] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:52:32] Speaker B: So the question to you, Jay Hutchinson, is what grade do the 49ers have to play in this game to win the game?
Like, because they have been able to get away with, I would argue, C level football in some of these games.
[00:52:48] Speaker A: Yeah. I think they need like a B minus.
They could get away with a B minus. Probably need like a B because if you can pressure Pennix and screw that up and like. Yeah. Just mostly slow down Bijan, I still think they can win, even with garbage.
I wouldn't be shocked if Brock gets picked off in a way that's not really his fault in this game, though.
[00:53:12] Speaker B: Oh, you know exactly how that looks.
Ball about, you know, ball bounces off his hands or a receiver stops coming.
[00:53:18] Speaker A: I also think it might be in spite of that.
[00:53:22] Speaker B: Yeah.
I.
My other, my other concern with this one just pessimist eater here is we were talking so glowingly about the secondary.
[00:53:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:34] Speaker B: And then they played Washington and the secondary sucked. Like, I don't need to sugarcoat that or give it caveats. Like, it sucked against Washington.
What did we spend the last four days glowingly talking about?
The defensive line.
[00:53:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:53:52] Speaker B: Like, there is, you know, hubris before the fall.
[00:53:57] Speaker A: Yeah. I wouldn't be shocked if, if there's like, oh, what's happening here? Like, every blitz is poorly timed and, you know, like, Bijan leaks out and they get like a bunch of chunk screens and all that stuff.
[00:54:09] Speaker B: Yeah, there's something. There's just something eking at me because, again, I think any rational actor looks at this and goes, like, niners by, like, five or six.
Like, they're just a better team even with all their deficiencies. Because if they. If the Niners came in fully healthy, this would be a. A splattering, an absolute splattering, as we saw last week with the Bears and the Falcons. But there's.
[00:54:34] Speaker A: There's.
[00:54:34] Speaker B: There's just something way off. There's just. There's.
[00:54:36] Speaker A: There's.
[00:54:37] Speaker B: I mean, it's the rag.
[00:54:38] Speaker A: They can't run their offense correctly without Mike. No, they just, like, fundamentally can't.
[00:54:43] Speaker B: And if they. If they had had since Sunday afternoon, you could put some more credence to the idea of, like, we'll come up with something cool. But they've had, like, four days, and half of those days they're like, are you sure Mike's not playing okay?
[00:55:01] Speaker A: I know. Kyle was like, yeah, I mean, he might play next week. And everyone's like, kyle?
[00:55:04] Speaker B: No, no.
[00:55:05] Speaker A: He's like, no, I need him.
[00:55:06] Speaker B: No, I don't know. Come on. Do you know how? I already don't sleep enough. Can you imagine how bad this is going to be if I have to figure out how to do this without Mike Evans? He's been our only offense for three weeks, if not longer.
[00:55:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:55:20] Speaker B: Jordan Watkins, podium game.
[00:55:23] Speaker A: Oh, no.
Okay.
[00:55:27] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:55:28] Speaker A: Love the thought. No.
[00:55:31] Speaker B: Kaylan Black.
[00:55:32] Speaker A: What's the threshold for him to get on the podium? Four catches, a touchdown.
[00:55:36] Speaker B: A touchdown's almost inherent. Like, if you score a touchdown, they bring you up.
I would say like, four catches for, like, more than 60 yards.
Oof.
[00:55:48] Speaker A: One chunk.
[00:55:50] Speaker B: I. I don't think he. I don't think there's anything small that he's getting. He runs clear out.
[00:55:54] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I think he's like, average catch is like, 20 yards down the field.
[00:55:58] Speaker B: He's on that early IUK where it's like he gets 22 yards of catch. It's like they never throw it to him. And when they do, he's one on one and wide open.
I'm gonna say, Jordan Watkins, podium game. I'm gonna ask you. Kalon Black, podium game.
[00:56:13] Speaker A: I don't think he has a touchdown yet, and I do think he might get one in this game. Okay. I kind of. He was almost. I feel like he almost got one last week. I was kind of like, yeah, he's
[00:56:22] Speaker B: edging us a little bit.
[00:56:23] Speaker A: I have to start him in a fantasy football league.
[00:56:26] Speaker B: Dear God.
[00:56:27] Speaker A: It's not a good feeling.
[00:56:28] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm starting Kanata Mumfield, so that tells you where I'm at.
[00:56:32] Speaker A: 20 team keeper league, folks.
[00:56:35] Speaker B: Kanata Mumfield. I'm also starting Tanner McKee in a two quarterback.
[00:56:40] Speaker A: I think I'm starting Ryan Flourney as well and probably Michael Mayer.
[00:56:47] Speaker B: We're four and two and then. Okay.
[00:56:50] Speaker A: Final.
Yeah.
[00:56:52] Speaker B: Final podium game. Yay or nay.
Romello height.
[00:56:57] Speaker A: Yeah, for sure.
[00:56:58] Speaker B: It better be.
[00:56:59] Speaker A: Yeah, for sure.
[00:57:02] Speaker B: Here's one other note that I have is.
[00:57:04] Speaker A: But he might. He might also get a personal foul for clubbing Michael.
[00:57:10] Speaker B: I feel like this is a big OSA Diggy Zuwa game.
[00:57:13] Speaker A: Yeah. Because. Because his. The way he collapsed, like, he sort of is like literally the head of the spear in terms of like, it's.
It's always power. Like he has some ability to bend, but it's really like, even when he does that, it's power and it really collapses the pocket. That's our. That's my doorbell.
[00:57:32] Speaker B: I had to unplug we. We have a Google doorbell and I had to unplug the speaker that I used to listen to music in.
Like, someone's at the door and it's like I'm in the middle of a
[00:57:42] Speaker A: stream and it's just Moose. It's just for those who don't know, Moose has his own doorbell.
[00:57:48] Speaker B: He does. He's a dumb, dumb boy. But you know what? He knows how to ring a doorbell to let him back inside.
[00:57:52] Speaker A: Your entire back door is just covered in slobber and you just see his
[00:57:56] Speaker B: face going, sir, please let me back in.
Okay, I have 18. 18 tie because I'm a coward. You have Scorami at 25 18.
Let's do some questions.
[00:58:08] Speaker A: Let's do some questions. Have you ever seen a turnaround from college of the pros like Jaden Duggar before? I'll take that one first.
[00:58:14] Speaker B: Sure.
[00:58:17] Speaker A: It's. It's tough to consider the entire context of college football. But yeah, like, people have turned guys who were like, not great products into good players. But this is a very clearly, like, excellent coaching job and he's taken very well.
[00:58:32] Speaker B: Somebody in the comments section the other day noted your initial evaluation of Malik Mustafa and put a timestamp on it. And I watched it. And first off, thank God I lost that weight. And second, we have gotten a lot better.
But it was a very good evaluation at the time. I'm just gonna say that to lead into this, I hope someone goes back and finds the stream where I said after all the negative things that I said about the tape that Jaden Duggar, because he appears to be a 3 and D wing, could be the equivalent of the college basketball guy who never performed at the college level, comes to the NBA and kicks ass because of the athleticism, because of the length that. That is a very clear archetype in the NBA. It doesn't happen very often at the NFL level, but it could happen. I'm just saying that.
[00:59:25] Speaker A: Where at a small school, weird coordination. Asked a lot of different things that, like, aren't necessarily well schemed.
[00:59:31] Speaker B: Nope.
[00:59:32] Speaker A: To come into a system where it's like, they have a very clear vision of what they need from you. And they're also like, here's what you do.
We know what your skill set's going to be for us. And they, like, instill confidence from day one where they're like, you know, you can do this.
[00:59:45] Speaker B: Tape matters a hell of a lot. Tape still matters more than anything.
Coaching matters. Personality matters, Talent matters.
[00:59:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:59:54] Speaker B: Tape should reflect all of those.
But at ull, fair to wonder if it did.
[01:00:00] Speaker A: Also was always, like, a top 10 percentile athlete with great size. So it was like the tape was. I was not a fan. I will not pretend I was a fan.
[01:00:12] Speaker B: No. I keep going back to see if I missed something.
[01:00:16] Speaker A: Yeah. And.
[01:00:16] Speaker B: And I have problems with linebackers generally in evaluation.
[01:00:19] Speaker A: We also, again, I mean, very obvious thing, but, like, also, it seems like a fast learner. Like, we don't get to talk to the guys to, like, know, like, if their head's screwed on straight. Like, some of that's obvious from the tape.
[01:00:29] Speaker B: We also had no idea if K.J. wright was a good linebackers coach or not.
[01:00:32] Speaker A: That's right. That's right.
Oh, we're learning. Yeah. That's part of the question. Is Romello height the bestie defensive end the 49ers have had opposite Bosa? It was. D. Ford was clearly the best pass rushing DN they had best pass rushing
[01:00:47] Speaker B: D. And I mean, Charles Amenahu was the best.
[01:00:49] Speaker A: Charles Amen, who was good. He also slotted inside. There's also, like, I think during that first super bowl run, like, Armstead was actually outside.
[01:00:57] Speaker B: He was 47.
[01:00:59] Speaker A: In terms of, like, well rounded. No, he's not the best dn, but, like, in terms of pass rushing, he could get there. He's not there now. D. Ford, clearly Amanda, who is very, very good as well.
[01:01:10] Speaker B: It's also a little bit of apples and oranges. I mean, first off, Bose is barely played. And then second, it's a totally different defensive front and that, you know, limits.
[01:01:19] Speaker A: The whole space scene is totally different
[01:01:21] Speaker B: than running a whole different. They're running a whole different offense on defense. To answer the first question, by the way, have we ever seen a turnaround? I don't know. Josh Allen.
Josh Allen couldn't hit the broadside player. He was a legitimately awful quarterback at Wyoming who could do some cool things.
[01:01:39] Speaker A: Why everyone laughed at the Bills. They're like, okay, go take the guy who can throw it far.
[01:01:44] Speaker B: He's.
[01:01:44] Speaker A: He.
[01:01:44] Speaker B: He. Josh Allen has legitimately created a. Like a huge problem for the NFL.
[01:01:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:01:50] Speaker B: As referenced by Anthony Richardson, which is just take the talent, even if they can't do it, because somehow they will also miraculously figure out how to throw accurately at the NFL outlier of all time.
[01:02:01] Speaker A: Like, yeah. Not hindsight. It's like, okay, yeah, great insane athlete, gamer. But like, he wasn't good at playing quarterback.
[01:02:08] Speaker B: He was inaccurate in the Mountain West.
[01:02:11] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:02:12] Speaker B: And now he's one of the most accurate quarterbacks we've ever seen. And on the move and people wonder how it is. And it's like, well, it's maybe because Josh Allen was a sneaky genius this entire time and he went and got the best people in the biomechanics. Like, the Bills didn't help him with this crap.
And then now the Bills basically just do whatever Josh Allen wants it.
[01:02:34] Speaker A: I would disagree because it was what Greg Roman was his OC early on. Am I wrong? No, no, no, no. Sorry. I'm thinking of the other former table. It was Dable.
[01:02:45] Speaker B: Yeah, Brian, Dable really fixed him.
[01:02:48] Speaker A: No, but I mean, like, he made it early in his career.
It's like Dable did the thing where it's like he's. He's not the guy to take you to the next level, but he's like, helped get the training wheels on. And I. And I will say to his credit, I think he did a good job of that.
[01:03:05] Speaker B: I mean. Okay, I'll give you that. I would also note that Allen was unplayable his first year. And then about first, I'd say maybe like post Thanksgiving, that first year, Dable did the thing that Dable always does, which is just go. Just run. Just run.
[01:03:23] Speaker A: Right.
[01:03:23] Speaker B: You're no good to me, so go kill yourself. Just run. And then that started to open some stuff up. And then the next year he came back and was just shockingly accurate, going from 0 to 100 in accuracy. And it changed. And now he's married to a movie star.
[01:03:38] Speaker A: Yeah. Good for him.
What are you seeing and what do you want to see for Mikel as the season goes on. Do we think we see him rush inside it all? Definitely he will rush inside.
[01:03:49] Speaker B: Post bio Rush inside.
[01:03:50] Speaker A: Yeah, he snapped inside a few times last game after not going there at all. Yeah, I just think they want him to, like, get up to speed and get healthy, which it's not to say he's unhealthy, but, like, he's not at a hundred percent yet. Like, just the way people work back from these injuries, it takes time to, like. And I don't know that you can develop all that, like, muscle mass and that structure. I don't know all the biomechanics of it, but, like, clearly he needs time on the football field to, like, get right.
[01:04:19] Speaker B: Yeah, he was holding his knee at the end of the last game. I mean, he's playing it a limitation and the bye week will help and maybe just kind of pushing through it will help or not and go the other way, too.
[01:04:33] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:04:34] Speaker B: What you have from him right now is really good. Imagine what happens if genuinely good enough.
[01:04:40] Speaker A: I don't think you expect him to come near his full potential this season off the acl. I think you just want him to improve, stay healthy and, like, be in a good position for the playoffs where he can be physical, maybe give you some pass rush reps and, like, hold the outside in the run game.
[01:04:58] Speaker B: I get the distinct sense that there will be games where they're like, we're unleashing Mikel and there will be other games like this one where they're like, just keep it simple, buddy.
[01:05:07] Speaker A: Keep him on a snap count. Like, Khalid Kareem has done well enough.
Yeah, Ogden has been bad and they.
[01:05:15] Speaker B: Yeah, they just kind of.
[01:05:16] Speaker A: Yeah, I know.
[01:05:18] Speaker B: Again, he shouldn't go far. Yeah, they just didn't want to put him on the plane.
[01:05:23] Speaker A: Exactly.
What can we expect from Kirk in his first game back?
Will Watson, Watkins, or Cooks still.
[01:05:33] Speaker B: Oh, God. What if they got Christian Watson? That'd be awesome. He's good. He can't catch the ball if you throw it at his body. But yeah, other than that, I think Kirk is going to be the first option on any play that has a wide receiver as the first option because otherwise it's going to be McCaffrey and Kittle.
I. Yeah, I don't think. Yeah, I don't think Watkins is going to be the first option, but I do think he'll be the best option on some. On some plays and we'll see if Brock throws it. I don't think we see Cooks much Yeah.
[01:06:01] Speaker A: I wouldn't be surprised if he gets I stab. He did a lot of bad stuff.
[01:06:05] Speaker B: Do you think Cooks or cowing plays more from scrimmage?
[01:06:10] Speaker A: Cowing.
[01:06:11] Speaker B: Yeah. I'll go with Cooks, but it's tight.
[01:06:15] Speaker A: Yeah. Cowan's at least been in the offense long enough and it's just like I'll stand in the right spot.
[01:06:20] Speaker B: Can I do a terror prediction that no one wants to hear?
[01:06:23] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:06:23] Speaker B: They're going to do that end around shit with cowing at some point in this game and it's going to go horribly.
[01:06:28] Speaker A: Just like either a loss of 12 or like a strip.
[01:06:31] Speaker B: Just.
No, just like it never. He never even gets upfield. It just.
[01:06:36] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:06:36] Speaker B: Like he's going in motion. They're going to hand it to him. He just never gets to turn left from. Yeah, I'm imagining a left to a right.
It's not. It not could it will.
[01:06:46] Speaker A: Yeah.
Similar vein. What do you think of Xavier Hutchinson trade last year was rookie deal Texans wide receiver room is deep play with Brock at Iowa State. I actually. I think that's honestly a great shout. I don't know.
[01:06:59] Speaker B: I didn't think of it.
[01:07:01] Speaker A: Texans are weird but that's a fantastic shout.
Yeah, he's a good player.
[01:07:06] Speaker B: Yeah. He only has 18 catches this year on 35 targets.
[01:07:09] Speaker A: They're really weird team though. Like I don't know. Casserio is a strange guy. I don't understand the only GM in
[01:07:16] Speaker B: the NFL who only watches cnbc.
I'm telling it's ask anybody.
The dude could tell you any stock price that day. But is he's. He's just a weird cat. People do not like talking to him.
[01:07:30] Speaker A: Yeah, the eyes scare me.
Yeah, that's a great shout. It's a great shot.
[01:07:35] Speaker B: He would be a replacement for Watkins. So if Watkins doesn't have his. I mean that's effectively the same thing. We're talking X receiver 6, 3, 2, 1, 0.
This would be. This would be a.
God, I'm pissed. I'm pissed. I didn't think about this. This is great.
[01:07:48] Speaker A: You know what? It's probably just the exact same like terms as the Keon White trade where you go we'll give you a sixth, you give us a seventh. Unless like Hutchinson plays every single down and as well.
[01:07:59] Speaker B: I think it's worth more than that. I think. I think it would have to be a little bit higher up though in this. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know if the Texas.
[01:08:07] Speaker A: It depends how much he gets iced out of that offense but we'll see. I think he still has a role because he's big and he blocks and does a lot of, like, dirty work for him.
[01:08:13] Speaker B: But Tank Dell's coming back for them.
But you just, you know a lot of players. Yeah. You just never know they're top end guys.
[01:08:20] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:08:20] Speaker B: So is what it is. Great call, though. Good stuff.
[01:08:23] Speaker A: Great shout. Shout out the based mugs. 8670.
Shout out for sure. Few. Few more. You guys didn't mention Colby much in the. In the Washington Review. How do you do? Couldn't bring myself to watch the coaches film this week.
Not great, but not as bad as Seattle.
Duron Payne kind of demolished everybody he went up against with drawn. Pain's so good.
So, so very good.
[01:08:51] Speaker B: Go get him. He's awesome.
[01:08:53] Speaker A: Yeah, he's awesome. Yeah, Colby. Not great, but not horrifying like it was against Seattle, which is not surprising.
[01:09:02] Speaker B: I pulled up Xavier Hutchinson's ESPN page just to look at some stats. In the latest video is Iowa State wide receiver drops wide open. Touchdown. That's the latest video.
So, yeah, you know how like you, you can only make a good fantasy trade if somebody, you know, they're always going to click that little icon next to the name and you're just hoping it says something terrible. So they're like, oh, I should get rid of this guy.
[01:09:24] Speaker A: Exactly.
[01:09:24] Speaker B: You hope Nick Casario doesn't know what he has. So he opens up right now, opens up the ESPN page and it's like, drops wide open. Touchdown.
[01:09:32] Speaker A: I gotta get rid of this guy a couple more.
What happens at safety once Siegel is back? We were talking about this. I just think you should. If Siegel's healthy, like, you should actually stay. Start him over. Chai here. They had. They played dry year.
I sent Dieter the play last week. It was cover eight.
It's his literal job is to poach and he's like, in position and then he just like, doesn't trigger and he's slow to it. And then it's a catch for Antonio Williams, who's very fast. Yeah, like, that's the play. He's. It's just too slow, like.
And it was such a clear example of like, Mustafa or Siegel might not beat them, beat the ball there, but they're certainly going to arrive at the right time.
[01:10:12] Speaker B: Correct. He cannot help but take the cheese. He, he, he gets lost in his own. Oh, he's so smart. I'm sure. You know, every time I've talked to him, he seems like a very thoughtful, interesting young man.
He thinks too much.
He thinks too much out there. And I get that safety is a position where you do have to think more than. Yeah, just the average. Like they don't list out. Just, you know, you do this and then there's a lot of things that you have to manage.
He just gets lost a lot and his eyes are in terrible places constantly. And the only comp that I have for it is like my 4 year old who gets lost in imagination time and I'm like, latte, look at me. We have to leave now. Oh, I'm doing this right now. No, no, I just told you.
It's, it's, it's not bad attention span. She. They lock in too hard and then everything else goes away.
If there's anything happening in the backfield, it's over.
Good news is ain't nothing happened in the backfield this week with Michael Penix.
He's, he's just, he's like one of those guys outside the Ferry building.
[01:11:22] Speaker A: Oh, that's what I was going to say. That was my first thought before we came on. It's probably the most sackable quarterback in the NFL.
[01:11:27] Speaker B: Yeah, he's, he's, he's.
At least Jared Goff knows how to like kind of move around a little.
[01:11:33] Speaker A: Yeah, it's all those tiny, tiny, like move your hips like the Tom Brady thing of like, I can't run but I can slide out of the way, you know.
[01:11:43] Speaker B: You know who is looking very sackable right now though? Dak.
[01:11:48] Speaker A: He's. By the way, the amount of like first read stuff there where it's just, it's way off.
[01:11:54] Speaker B: There's, there's something, there's something fundamentally off there. I have to think that he's either
[01:11:58] Speaker A: like, I'm throwing to Pickens today.
[01:12:00] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:12:01] Speaker A: Or I'm throwing to CD today. Oh, no. One of them got mad. I guess I have to throw to the other one and then the play breaks down. They're like, floor any time.
[01:12:11] Speaker B: I'm a big fan of Clayton Adams. I think that he's a really good offensive line coach. He's now their oc. I don't know if that's going to last another year. And I want to tell everybody in the NFL right now, if Clayton Adams is available to you to pick up as an offensive line coach because he has been fired from the Cowboys as offensive coordinator, you need to do that. The Niners won't. Yeah. But any other team that's looking to get better needs to do that.
By the way, Clayton Adams, Eagles offensive line coach next year, that's dangerous. Don't love that.
[01:12:41] Speaker A: That's. That's a very strong possibility. Very strong. Last one.
Do they bring Samo off ir just ride the D line as is? I think they wait until they have an injury there.
[01:12:53] Speaker B: I mean. Or. Yeah, Samo's coming off when Samo's healthy. He's not healthy yet. He's not even.
[01:12:57] Speaker A: Yeah, I. I mean, I think. But I think down the line, you're saying, like, if the D line's humming, do they, like, take somebody out? Because it becomes an interesting question with Kareem. Like, if Kareem's, like, setting the edge still really well in the run game, like, do you bring Samo off?
Because I'm a big Samo supporter. I think he's a fantastic player, but there's like a little bit of a chaos element where he's like, kind of an energy player in a similar vein to Keon White.
[01:13:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:13:26] Speaker A: Whereas Kareem is more of like, you know, a stout edge setup. I think they let it ride and it will sort of sort itself out naturally.
[01:13:33] Speaker B: Yeah. This is. This is like worrying about if you have too many starting pitchers. These things take care of themselves. I wouldn't. I wouldn't stress about it too much. It's a good. It's an interesting question. It's an interesting thought. I don't think that Sammo is going to get latude, let's put it that way.
[01:13:46] Speaker A: No, he'll. He'll be back. Should Brock just go the last one? Screw it. I'm throwing this to cowing. And if he's not in the right spot, at least I tried.
[01:13:54] Speaker B: He has no other choice.
[01:13:56] Speaker A: Yeah, I think, yeah, it might just have to be there.
[01:13:59] Speaker B: By the way, for Brock is not the most, like, forthright at the media, but he doesn't not answer questions. So we're in a nice middle ground. It's almost as if he has training and is very smart, but he. You could hear him in answering a question the other day, be like, I just gotta fucking grip it and rip it to these guys, don't I? Like, you could feel him process that in real time where he's like, well, there's really no alternative.
[01:14:24] Speaker A: I think Larry asked about walk ins or something. He's like, well, yeah, they're, you know, looking at it. There may be times I just have to eat it. And because it's also, again, he's talked about it like he can't see the play every time. And so it requires a high level of like, this guy's going to be there at this time to pull this off. And when it's a shorter guy who doesn't have that trust developed might not run the route with the right timing. That's hard to trust.
[01:14:49] Speaker B: There's two narratives that come out of this game. Only one can be true. Either people are going to be talking about Jeff Ulbricht in the Atlanta defense, like they're actually a force to be reckoned with, or Brock Purdy is going to, like, basically start etching his name on the MVP trophy. There's no alternative because he is going to have to.
[01:15:06] Speaker A: He's going to have to run.
[01:15:08] Speaker B: He's gonna have to run and he's gonna have to rip throws blind to guys that should not be playing in this game.
Guys who should be playing in the preseason but not playing in this game.
[01:15:18] Speaker A: Over under on two, way past the line of scrimmage, Pump fakes from Brock while he's scrambling.
[01:15:26] Speaker B: I'm gonna. I'm gonna take the under because it's a bad line, but it will happen.
[01:15:31] Speaker A: Yeah, one and a half.
[01:15:33] Speaker B: I'll give you one. I'll give you one. Jake, if you take. If you get two, I'm happy to lose my money.
[01:15:38] Speaker A: Crazy. One and a half was the line send.
[01:15:40] Speaker B: Since Send it in. I'm still taking the under, but it's.
[01:15:44] Speaker A: What is the line for this game, by the way?
[01:15:46] Speaker B: I don't know.
[01:15:47] Speaker A: I'm going to say Niners by three and a half.
[01:15:49] Speaker B: I'm pretty sure it's Niners three. It might be four.
Okay, we're now looking this up live.
Where do you go to look it up live?
[01:15:57] Speaker A: I just google 49ers Falcons game line.
[01:16:00] Speaker B: I did line.
[01:16:04] Speaker A: I got.
[01:16:04] Speaker B: I got Atlanta. That's. That's this what I got. I'm looking at four and a half.
[01:16:11] Speaker A: That seems saucy. Yeah, I said I guess three and a half. That feels.
[01:16:18] Speaker B: I was. I was looking. I was looking up a line the other day on the ferry, and the San Francisco ferry thing blocks all sports betting sites, so I couldn't find a. I couldn't find the line.
[01:16:29] Speaker A: Act of moral high ground. I respect it.
[01:16:31] Speaker B: I just. It was just interesting. It's always interesting to find out what the ferry WI fi allows you to have and not have.
DraftKings, not a sponsor has the Niners at minus two and a half. The total in this game at 49 and a half. So we both took the under and Falcons money line at +1, 2, 4, which I don't think is enticing enough.
Anytime touchdowns just real fast Bijan minus 310.
[01:16:59] Speaker A: What's Caitlin Black's number Not because it's a great question.
[01:17:02] Speaker B: Kaylan Black's at 390.
Johan Dotson's at 400.
Okay Kyle use check 550.
That feels like the play the Kyle use check touchdown.
[01:17:18] Speaker A: Yeah to be clear, we don't promote gambling.
[01:17:21] Speaker B: No no but it is interesting to know some of the numbers and Atlanta.
[01:17:25] Speaker A: The only bet I have advocated for this year was to throw exactly $1 down on Ramil Height for defensive Rookie of the Year.
[01:17:32] Speaker B: I'm not sure it's going to happen but it doesn't look wrong.
[01:17:34] Speaker A: Not gonna happen. But he is going to finish he might finish top five.
[01:17:38] Speaker B: I, I listen I told everybody Brock at 20 to one was easy money for MVP. You could, you could cash out right now and make significant profit. Significant but no, no, don't listen to he doesn't have any ball knowledge. We'll talk to you after the game.
[01:17:54] Speaker A: See you folks.
