[00:00:01] Speaker A: Jake is. Does anything happen with The San Francisco 49ers, like ever? [00:00:05] Speaker B: No. No boring team. Nothing ever happens. It's just completely normal. [00:00:10] Speaker A: We'll figure out what to talk about on the other side. Dieter and Hutch, where everything is happening all the time, every minute, every day. Dear God, stop the news, please stop the news. We were going to talk about Ricky Pierce Hall's injury apparently was bad enough that Kyle Shanahan, who clearly has some sway and something going on, got on the horn with John lynch and said, go get me my boy. And brought back. Yeah, Samuel. [00:00:41] Speaker B: I immediately wrote down a few thoughts once this happened. I'm just going to read them very in order, very briefly. Number one, Ricky, it's over. Yeah, pretty much that feels it may not be true. Maybe there's a miraculous recovery to be made. That does not what it sounds like. Maybe he comes back next year and is healthy. It feels like it's over, that's what. [00:01:09] Speaker A: Yeah, well, I was talking about this in the car. The fifth year option with this. First of all, let's just establish what we're presuming here. There is a presumption that is being made that might not, might not necessarily come true. But after the Niners announced Ricky's got this swollen up knee, which is the same injury from last year, which they thought would just go away on its own, which, by the way, I don't know any. I'm not a medical doctor, I presume the vast majority of our audience, though I'd like to think that we got some fine folks in the audience, are not medical doctors. I'm sure there were many medical doctors that got together and said, it's a PCL injury. The Niners had recent experience with PCL injuries with Christian McCaffrey and Dom Puni, guess what, they just kind of fix themselves on their own. Apparently that's something PCLs can do. Apparently it's something that Ricky Pearsall's PCL can't do. They held him out of minicamp and then he gets in two days of practice. He was talking, he was talking like, oh, man, wasn't that a great catch? And yeah, now his knee is swollen up, so clearly it didn't get itself fixed. [00:02:18] Speaker B: And yeah, and what you're referring to is the initial reaction that I think is completely fair, which is to be like, well, why didn't he have surgery when if he had surgery on it and fixed it, then the issue would be over. And now it's something where, because the consensus seems to be you replace it I mean, or you get it fixed, and then you can recover and you can play. [00:02:38] Speaker A: But it's nice if you don't. Yeah, but not if. The thing is, do you want to undertake surgery for something that, with other people, has not required surgery? And again, it's not like this thing didn't get mri. I'm sure they just said this should be fine, and it just turned out it wasn't fine. And I. I'm not going to even pretend to posit a guess as to why or how or what. It just is unfortunate. A bet was made and the bet did not pay out. And when they. I haven't covered baseball as long as I have. You don't look for other options. If you got a good answer in the first place, you're not like, oh, let me press my luck here and see what somebody else says just to make sure you walk away when you get the answer you want. The fact that they were exploring options for the knee is basically code for, buddy, he's about to get cut open. [00:03:28] Speaker B: And has anyone ever explored an option and it's been like, a good thing? It's like, oh, we're actually just. We're looking at a couple different houses. We actually feel good about all of them. We're stoked. We're thrilled. [00:03:39] Speaker A: Yeah. No, certainly exploring options can be a good thing. And there have been folks who were. Especially in baseball. I'm trying to think of a good example of one. I'm pretty sure, like, school, he explored. [00:03:55] Speaker B: He explored options, and he had a better surgery that maybe. Maybe they. [00:04:00] Speaker A: A lot of guys, you know. You know who got a better option. Brock Purdy. Brock Purdy was told that he needed UCL construction, and he's like, nah, second opinion. They're like, no, we can brace it. And he's like, we're gonna go with that opinion. And that worked out for him. [00:04:14] Speaker B: Worked out real quick with that. Have you just always pictured, like, you know, how they have a giant brace on their elbow? And I'm just. I've always pictured it being that, but inside of his arm. I know that's not what it is, but that's all I can picture. [00:04:28] Speaker A: No, I think of it more like the random piece of wood that I've attached to my gate at my house just to kind of keep everything from rattling. Just two screws and a little piece of wood. Balsa wood. In fact. It's easier on the body just holding it all together. And no way that backfires. That are like a bungee cord. It's like My cargo bike just filled with bungee cords. [00:04:48] Speaker B: Bungee cords can do all things. They can do all things. [00:04:52] Speaker A: So. So yeah, just again, suffice it to say that was not looking good. And then the 49ers just basically came out in an actions over words way and said yeah, no, it's, it's not good. We don't expect Ricky Pierce all to show up anymore to work. So we're going to need another Z receiver. Ergo, Debo Samuel is back on the team. And let's run through some more of your thoughts here. I'm sure they over. [00:05:18] Speaker B: Let me, let me just, let me read them all real quick and, and then we can get into the good ones first. One, Ricky, it's over. Two, Kyle can't quit it. Number three, he better wear 19. And he is wearing 19, thank goodness because I swear to you, if he was not wearing 19, if he tried for another single digit number, this season would be over. I'm not even joking. Yes, 19 it is. And 19 it shall be. Number four, crucial with McCaffrey and the fact that I don't expect him to play a full season. The, the, they have him on a cheap prove it deal. They're going to use him however they want to use it. [00:05:55] Speaker A: This is Debo being on a cheap prove a deal. One year, seven million. I'm sure it's extremely low. Basic incentive laden. [00:06:02] Speaker B: Exactly. It's. And I'm sure it's just like a smaller version of that initial contract he had where it's like you get 400 rushing yards, all that. I'm sure there's some of that. [00:06:12] Speaker A: They gave him the Juwan Jennings. [00:06:14] Speaker B: Exactly. Which is why number five, ideal deal, perfect terms for the 49ers to bring him back on to say, yeah, you know what are we desperate? [00:06:22] Speaker A: Sure. [00:06:22] Speaker B: But you're more desperate and that works out great for all parties involved. Number six, similar. Pretty much the best washed deal ever. Sort of like a well loved favorite guy who kind of never really wanted to leave. Comes back at a position of need. Number seven. Lol. I love it. [00:06:44] Speaker A: Yeah, we talked about it. We talked about it. I think about a month back is like just like it was floating around. Right? Yeah, I'm gonna, I, I feel bad about this, but I'm gonna do it anyway. Like apparently all you need to do to get on 49ers web zone is work for Bleacher Report. And Bleacher Report is just trying to find something. They're lockhand foreigning it. They're like, how do I Get this to be involved with the Niners and when you're, I know how the content farming system works and like I, I appreciate their hustle but at the same time it's like you're literally throwing stuff against the wall and it's not a preposterous, outlandish thing to throw against. Throw a Debo Samuel reunion with the Niners against the wall. Like it was actually a salient possibility. Like it didn't, it didn't come across as outlandish at all. So we talked about it and we, I think in the moment we're like, not good. But you don't hate it. It's not like a white flag. And I've been watching the Debo receptions and targets from last year in Washington. A lot of people are out here like, oh, Deebo's washed. He was no more washed last year than he was the year prior. And I should really let y', all, you know, remind y' all he had two games of Jaden Daniels last year. Two. And then Jaden Daniels arm went the other way and he was playing with Marcus Mariota and I believe there was some Josh Johnson in there. [00:08:16] Speaker B: Yeah, it got, it got real dark [00:08:17] Speaker A: real quick as, as, as it is want to do. So he looked, he still got that 15 yard drag over route, whatever you want to call it. The sideline stuff is still questionable. He's still not like beating man to man, but there are a couple nice contested catches. Like he's not a scrub. He's just not what he once was. He's still useful. If you're going to put him in there for 30, 40, 50 on a bad week, percentage of snaps and rotate through some dudes at Z. He's a good member of your bullpen and that's what they're, they're going to have to Johnny Holstein the Z receiver position now with Pierce hall out, I [00:08:54] Speaker B: feel like Jordan Watkins standing goes way up. I feel like he and it could be cowing. It could be him or cowing. But like I, I, I think Jordan Watkins is unfortunately, maybe it's not unfortunate. Maybe he works out and it's great. Yeah, we saw some glimpses like last year and they rare. I, I agree. Rare. It's one of those things where it's like any wide receiver, if you watch them enough, you're like, oh, a good thing happened. Yeah, it's when you're playing offense and you catch a ball, it's a good thing. [00:09:24] Speaker A: Right? [00:09:24] Speaker B: Like it should happen. [00:09:26] Speaker A: Very rarely does someone make a reception in the NFL. And you're like, that was shitty. Right? That guy sucks. [00:09:31] Speaker B: Right? Right. Some of Brian Thomas last year was a little bit like that. [00:09:37] Speaker A: Well, or Jacob Cowing in practice the other day where it's like, oh, he caught. He hadn't had a catch from, like, legit scrimmage the entire practice, and they clearly drew one up for him, and he clearly ran the wrong route and Mac had to, like, catch himself at the last minute. It was a whole thing. I don't think it will be cowing. I think cowing has been first off, actually. I. I'll go as far to say that I think Jacob Cowing no longer has a job with the San Francisco 49ers after this. Because through and again, I'd like to remind myself and everyone else it is July 30, but clearly some shit has already hit the fans. So maybe I'm. Maybe I'm delayed as opposed to premature in this. But the only way that they were able to get cowing the ball through non shoulder padded practice was through Gadget plays. Because anytime they throw it to them, otherwise it's either intercepted because he gets pushed away or he's in the wrong spot and the ball is like a foot and a half higher than he could ever jump. So they're not feeling great about it. And the fact that they started calling up Gadget plays on day three of practice just to get him touches, and they look good. Like it was a bubble screen and a reverse toss from McAffrey. [00:10:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:10:46] Speaker A: And it's like, oh, yeah, I get that. That makes sense. Like, this guy could be a good punt returner. The fact that they were doing that tells me that they're like, oh, this is. This is not where we need to get this guy some confidence. We need to, like, build him up. We got to take him back from trash. Well, guess who just showed up. The master of the Gadget play, even if he doesn't have the same juice he once had. You don't think that they're gonna run the Gadget play for Debo as opposed to Jacob cowing like Kyle. And this is kind of what I want to lead you into here. Like, can Kyle be helped from himself here? Because we talked about it in 24. Like, Kyle, you gotta get clean, buddy. Like, you gotta. You gotta break up. [00:11:25] Speaker B: Unfortunately, I think it's a situation where you're like, all right, well, I plan to have Ricky and do the real offense. And now it's not kind of. It's not really working. And he's like, I just gotta feed Debo, like McCaffrey's. McCaffrey will pick up probably an injury. We talked about that. I don't want that to happen, but that's the likelihood. Like, and then it's just going to be Debo and he's going to be like, God, I missed it. [00:11:49] Speaker A: Like, I don't. It's. It's so. [00:11:53] Speaker B: It's inevitable. [00:11:55] Speaker A: Yeah. But then I'm glad that it's a one year seven. At least somebody prevented them because Kyle's like, let's just give him four years. Let's lock this thing down. We were, we were so wrong for partying with you. I love you, baby. [00:12:08] Speaker B: But you know what the, the thing about the one year deal is? It makes it where you're like, he's not guaranteed another obvious. The obvious part of a one year deal. But like, you don't get the summer thing where you're like worried about how he's training. He has to train as if he's like going to get a new contract every single summer. [00:12:26] Speaker A: Apparently the training went well to the point where he opened up a video about his training, complaining about how hard and how much he doesn't like training. And again, I repeat, you could have edited that out. You could have let everyone know how much you love the grind. And instead he's like, man, this sucks. I know it sucks that point that it sucks. Right. [00:12:46] Speaker B: You have to lie again. [00:12:48] Speaker A: You're the one posting this video. Like, this is not some voyeur, like, you caught him at the wrong time thing. This is not a deeter, just off the cuff, here's what I'm thinking right now. Video for my car. This is a well edited, perhaps overly edited video and you just decided to start off with I don't like this very much. Yeah, again, yeah, you're not wrong. You're just not right. [00:13:12] Speaker B: I mean. Yeah, very briefly. Yeah, I mean, I don't blame anyone. Incredible like washed vibes in terms of this wide receiver core of like Mike Evans and Debo Samuel and Christian Kirk and DeMarcus Robinson. That's an extremely, like, not at their peak of their powers group. And could it. It's still a good group, I think. [00:13:36] Speaker A: Yes, right. In theory for the first five weeks of a season. [00:13:41] Speaker B: But my God, there's some like chicken, chicken tearing off the bone vibes. [00:13:48] Speaker A: Is it, Is it that video with the guy who just holds the bone and all the meat falls off? [00:13:53] Speaker B: Yeah, you read my mind. Unfortunately. [00:13:55] Speaker A: It's a great, it's a great meme. Got A little Trumpy. It's a great meme. So do you think Trump knows what a meme is? I'm. I'm delirious. Regardless, They can't. They cannot use him all the time. They cannot use him in the ways that I probably think they want. Like, they would have used him a couple of years ago. But I, I'm. I'm steadfast in having watched some Debo tape last year, kind of in the middle, out of a curiosity, kind of one of those random Wednesdays where, you know, on a Wednesday sometimes you gotta see what the commanders are tape. I need help, but it's. I'm like, oh, this isn't as bad as it's being made out to be. And then I, you know, last 30 or 40 minutes or so, I've just been going through all of them. And you're like, yeah, there's still something here and there's still the problems, but. [00:14:49] Speaker B: Right. [00:14:50] Speaker A: As a Z, it's a true Z receiver. As somebody who should not be the focal point of the offense, as somebody who is going to have Mike Evans opposite him and boy, Mike Evans, if he ever thought he's getting a snap off, he is sorely mistaken that that man, they're going to get every bit of that one year. They might have to pay him the second year as like comp pay for the amount of work they're about to put that man through. [00:15:14] Speaker B: But maybe they just have Stribling. You know, we've talked about shriveling in the slot. Stribling just might end up just being his back up in the X. I mean, you've been down there more than I have. [00:15:22] Speaker A: But like, I think it's Watkins that they want to be backup X, but I just don't think that they expect to do that. It's kind of. I think, I think it's a little bit like. And this has already gone to hell too, but I think it was like their idea for Jordan James and Kalon Black, which is. Oh, Black has a role. Like, Black will play, but he's not the man. If McCaffrey goes down, that will be James. I think that's what they were trying to do with Stribling, or at least their idea for Stribling where it's like he's the third down guy. Yeah, he's someone who rotates in at Z. He's someone who rotates in at X. And like, let's also be clear, it's not as cut and dry of like, who's the X. Who's the Z, the overload stuff, the, the flood concepts, the dagger hits. There's going to be a lot of over, you know, over shifting, things like that. Two guys on the line of scrimmage on the same side. But it is. I think their idea was Watkins doesn't play that much. But when Evans goes down, Watkins plays a lot like he gets the plurality if not majority of X snaps with stribling kind of staying in that same bouncing. [00:16:22] Speaker B: The understudy. The understudy versus the backup thing. Right. We've talked about, which I know that's [00:16:29] Speaker A: out the window by the way. [00:16:31] Speaker B: I know this is the most obvious thing, but I immediately was like, how do you break a rib in the non contact portion of practice where they was it. Do you think it was the. That one machine where you're, you know, you go through and it. And it rocks. [00:16:45] Speaker A: You know, I don't know what that's called. [00:16:47] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah. [00:16:48] Speaker A: I think it's actually, it should be a gantlet. But that's just being pedantic. It's the suggestion, and I cannot confirm or deny this is that Fred punched him right in the ribs trying to get a football out. And it went. I should also note, like, it's not as if there's no contact. Yeah. Especially for the running backs. [00:17:08] Speaker B: In some ways it's more dangerous for some of the, some of the guys because like here's the thing. [00:17:12] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:17:13] Speaker B: Fred's an insane person. Like, he's, he's incredibly smart, but like he wants. He's been waiting for months. He's been at home with a child just like, all right, I need to hit somebody. [00:17:25] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. No. He had his leg up for weeks and he was just fuming. Fuming. I mean, Fred's. Fred is an elite all time football player and the temperament could not be more football player. I know that he can turn on that charm. He's a killer. Like, yeah, you would. Fred Warner is a legitimate, like one of the greatest. He's like Fassbender in all these assassin movies. You're like, oh, wow, Fassbender. So charming. This and that. Like, oh, he just killed that dude. Bond Bond esque level of spy. Let's just make Fassbender Bond. I'm way off my game regardless. [00:18:00] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, there's no real point to the Jordan James thing other than that. Like, it's just like almost. It's one of those funny, stupid things that kind of always happens to the 49ers where you're like, how does your, your Running back get hurt before the pads came on sort of thing. [00:18:15] Speaker A: And now, I mean, I will say, like, Federian Low got injured in, I think, the second. I think it was the second period of the first practice. It was right in front of me. And you're like, what? How? Like the substation so far away. It's on the other field. [00:18:33] Speaker B: That's one of those where you're like, oh, it's fine. It doesn't matter. And then you're like, actually would have been really nice for them to have Darian Lowe for all of training camp. [00:18:40] Speaker A: You know who's really pissed off about it? Trent Williams. He's like, I was planning on ramping this. I was gonna make a good show of it come out for these first couple days. And then it's like, you know, I'm just gonna kick my feet up. Fred's. He's gonna find a graduation somewhere that he can attend, because that man loves graduations. He's always at his graduation. [00:19:02] Speaker B: It is always awesome. Every year where it's like, every single person has reported except Trent Williams. We have excuse Trent Williams. He is still in Texas for an indeterminate amount of time, which we are okay with. [00:19:12] Speaker A: Yes, every year it will be okay. But, yeah, like, I appreciate Trent, like, came in. He's looking lighter. He's looking spry, like Trent's. Trent's all about it. Like, you can never question the man's professionalism, but this year, he's been extra professional. And deep down, he's got to be like, well, I was planning on taking a vacation after the Tennessee game. Like, what are we doing? Like, he's not going to play. But, like, those joint practices, he's like, I wasn't planning on being out there, and now I might have to be. No, I can't have Austin Pleasants protecting my quarterback against Jeffrey Simmons. So I. I was pretty heavy, and I didn't feel out of place when we did Carsey Chronicles after the Pierce hall injury. And I'm like, this kind of changes everything. And almost immediately, it's. It's really changed everything. I think a lot of the concepts that I. Maybe this was just wishful thinking on my part, but kind of the. Some of the concepts that I had been picking up, maybe through mystic realms and terms, some of the tea leaves that I was reading, which is like, oh, they might run a lot more like 11 personnel, like, McVeigh comes up with this 13, which was a point of necessity, not of invention. And they use it for a little bit. It goes really well, because they have like seven good tight ends. Meanwhile, the Niners are just trying to find somebody, anybody. Every new. Every day they got a new tight end in there. We're gonna figure it out, though. I do kind of like this 46 guy who used to play for the Bengals. McLaughlin or something. He's okay, but. And Ton just can still catch the bejesus out of it. But 13 personnel, like, the Rams went away from it. They're like, okay, well, that was. That was a fun quirk. And everyone else. Yeah, wait a minute. He did what? We're going to make our entire identity this now. Wouldn't it be ironic though, again, maybe this is just wish casting or confirmation bias or just wanting to galaxy brain this thing. But like, I. I thought it would be really funny if Kyle came out and just ran the perfect McShay or Sean McVeigh offense or. Or Todd McShane. Todd. Todd. Todd. [00:21:19] Speaker B: That's a. [00:21:19] Speaker A: That's a. [00:21:20] Speaker B: That's a different kind of offense. [00:21:22] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:21:23] Speaker B: Moving on. [00:21:23] Speaker A: Look out. Bars and mobile. But it's. Wouldn't it just be hilarious if Kyle Shanahan, master of 21 personnel, who dabbled in this kind of weird 2112 thing last year and has always been more about heavy personnel compared to his peers, just turned as. Everyone is like, you're going heavy. He's like, I'm going light and I'm going with 11 personnel and a lot of Dijon stribling. I. I just don't know if they can do that anymore because now there's two positions as opposed to just flanker that is in a constant state of flux unless they're going to ride Debo all the way home. And that is not a steed that you want to be tying your wagon to. [00:22:01] Speaker B: Yeah, it's interesting. It's like, I think the function of Ricky in so many ways was like, he just moves differently. Like, there's a fluidity to how he operates. Like, I don't know, you sort of get like the man coverage ability, the sort of movement ability of an example. But like at the Z position and they just don't have a way to replicate that. So like the speed and the timing and all of that, Watkins is kind of the only option for that. Like, Debo will play Z and Debo can run the routes, but it's not. It's not going to be at the same speed. It's not going to be with the same level of crispness. There's not the same interchangeability. [00:22:40] Speaker A: They got Ricky as a counter to D. Right. They're like, we've seen. We've reached the limit on Debo. Like, we know, like, we can't do this anymore. Press, man to man, is killing us. By the way, the two press, best press, man to man, guys play for the Rams now. [00:22:56] Speaker B: Define the Super Bowl. Not a coincidence. Define the super bowl that the 49ers lost. [00:23:01] Speaker A: And then the Rams are like, we'll take them. Let's go. I'm surprised Steve Spagnolo didn't go with them. He's like, I'm coming. It's like, we don't need a defensive coordinator. He's like, no, I'm leaving. These are my guys. [00:23:11] Speaker B: I know everyone. Everyone's talked about Miles Garrett, and It's like, Trent McDuffie is, like, maybe bigger. Him and Jalen Watson both together. Like, no one's. [00:23:17] Speaker A: It's gonna be. I love Watson. You know how. [00:23:19] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. [00:23:20] Speaker A: You were. [00:23:21] Speaker B: You were way in, by the way. For anyone who doesn't remember Jalen Watson, Dieter was in on this, like, immediately, like, for weeks. He's like, this guy's a nightmare. [00:23:29] Speaker A: And I saw him in the preseason, and I'm like, oh, they got another one. And he's wearing 35. So it's like, I don't know. Again, there's something about the numerology of football, but he's wearing 35. So you're like, oh, he can't be that good. And it's like, no, that guy is the better of the two corners. Like, McDuffie's a great player, but, like, oh, my God, Watson. Unbelievable. [00:23:48] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, the Chiefs. The Chiefs just get, like, these, like, undrafted guys and turn them into absolute nightmares that can play, man, and just ruin your life. [00:23:56] Speaker A: Speaking of the Chiefs, it has been suggested to many, directly to me, that, oh, this was not the best move that the Niners could have made in this moment, which I disagree with. And they'll bring up Stefan Diggs. Let me just let you in on a little. Little something here. I'm not, like, pumping this out as a report, but, like, let me just tell you where I'm at. Based on a couple of conversations that I had about a month and a half ago. People are not questioning Stefan Diggs's ability to play football, but when the Kansas City Chiefs are kind of like, whoa, that guy's got a lot going on off the field. I don't know about that. [00:24:33] Speaker B: While wearing, like, free Rasheed Rice. Sure. [00:24:35] Speaker A: Right where they're. When their whole thing is just like, we don't Care. Like, we just don't care when they're even. Like, I don't know if we can do the digs. And they'll probably end up doing it. But, like, sure. They desperately need him. And they're like, whoa, I don't know. That's a pretty good sign that that's not the dude you should be bringing in when the Chiefs are kind of like, I don't know. [00:24:59] Speaker B: Are you playing the. The old Vikings video in your head from the Vikings locker room? Remember that? I mean, that was years ago. Probably different. [00:25:08] Speaker A: Yeah, I was thinking more of. And this is a lovely thought, frankly, I was thinking more of the pink stuff. And I'm not talking about the cleaning agent or. Or, you know, the. The many other things that have happened with Stefan Diggs. [00:25:21] Speaker B: You. Like, there's a level of desperation you need to get to. And I think the Niners went with, like, we're desperate, but, like, at least we know what Debo is. [00:25:29] Speaker A: He. He. [00:25:30] Speaker B: He loves it here. We love him here. We know what he is. We don't have to worry about this, like, weird fit ruining our locker room. There's. It's just not worth it. And they've got. They've been pretty proactive since Reuben Foster about trying to avoid that to various degrees and. [00:25:46] Speaker A: Because they better and for worse, too. [00:25:48] Speaker B: Right. Agree. They've missed out on some guys because they've been a little bit strict in that regard, which, I mean, listen, again, [00:25:57] Speaker A: and it's not to say that Diggs isn't the better player. It's that one. Okay. Let's just do it on the. Remove that off the field stuff. You don't got to teach Debo a damn thing. Yeah, we're in the middle. I mean, not in the middle, but we're already in training camp. Like, just. This is the easy move. And if it fails, no harm, no foul. I mean, you're in the exact same spot you were yesterday. In effect, there's just a couple more Chronicle stories. Like, I. I would not. This. This was the obvious move. This is the move they should have made. Like, outside of digs, who. Who is the player that would have been available who can actually provide you some value at this point if you're the Niners, like, specifically, no one. [00:26:42] Speaker B: No one at this point in the summer is available because they're perfect option. They're all bad options. Yeah, right. Like, that's. [00:26:48] Speaker A: I'm sure. Kendrick Bourne still out there. [00:26:51] Speaker B: No, he's not. Remember, the Cardinals gave him, like, a fully guaranteed, like, five million Dollar deal. And then the second he signed it, he went, no one else was bidding, you idiots. And then he just, like, danced. It was awesome. It was. I actually. [00:27:03] Speaker A: Willie Adams. [00:27:05] Speaker B: Yeah. He was like, you were bidding against yourself. Yeah. And then he's just been, like, having so much fun while the Cardinals are like, we don't have a plan. [00:27:14] Speaker A: Lovely guy. Doesn't know the place. I will say this, too. Good news for DeMarcus Robinson, who things were not looking good for a few days ago, and now suddenly, he might get a new football number. [00:27:29] Speaker B: The ultimate good, good depth receiver to have. We don't know what you do here just yet, but we'll probably need you. [00:27:37] Speaker A: Yeah, you can play all three spots. You can do above average on a good day at all three spots. You don't seem to know the rules of any of the three spots, but maybe second time's a charm and is available for the first three games. [00:27:50] Speaker B: In theory, again, it's like in Madden where you lose, you know, a couple wide receivers and you've got one good one, and then you're like, all right, let me go to the free agency market. All right, there's a 74 overall guy who will be fine. Yeah, there you go. [00:28:04] Speaker A: Man had a hell of a game against the Eagles, and he had a [00:28:06] Speaker B: great season before he came to the Niners. He, like, really was. [00:28:10] Speaker A: And so I think we're going to see a lot more of him. I think that Stribling, for all the positive things that I've posited, and I'm sure other people have, too, though actually, I'm not sure of that. I don't know what the hell other people say. Who knows? Football is a very interesting game that can be interpreted in many ways, but pretty obvious to me being out there that Stribling is up to the task in these early days, yet he better be. He better be that. He better be spot on because, like, he's in the fire now. If. If the whole Kyle Shanahan doghouse thing, like, that's a privilege that they have long ago, as of, I don't know, 24 hours ago, had to give up. So Stribling better be it. Jacob Cowling, if you ever wanted to make this football team, now would be the time. Like tomorrow, have the practice of your life, because they have already replaced you in the same way that they've replaced Pearsall. [00:29:07] Speaker B: I know it's. I know it happens with every team, but it does feel almost outside with the 49ers where there's a guy where you're like, maybe this will be the year and it's never the year. They have seem to have an inordinate amount of those where you're just like, all right, it's year three, it's year four. We've seen absolutely zero of you. [00:29:26] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:29:26] Speaker B: Daryl Luder, maybe now there's just so much. [00:29:29] Speaker A: We know what looter is, though. And like, to be fair, looter cowing is also, you know, a day three pick. Looters, a day three pick. I don't know if I want to put too much on them, but you. You were hoping for somebody to come through, right. In that regard. And they just. It just hasn't. But they also don't have enough talent in the pipeline to where they can just say, well, we lost on that one. Let's drop that guy and move this. [00:29:53] Speaker B: Except for Camelotu. [00:29:55] Speaker A: Yeah, well, I mean, that tells you something, don't it? I'm. I'm also very curious now. Well, first off, I don't know if we'll find any of this in training camp if they line Debo up in the backfield this or that. But this might, in a weird way. Tell me if I'm stupid on this. This might help their lack of tight end situation in a way. Not because Debo can play tight end, but because Debo can line well. I mean, he can line up closer to the line of scrimmage and he can give you the reach block. Like, Debo's not known as a great blocker, but like, he knows what to do and how to do it. [00:30:32] Speaker B: He certainly did block before he was got paid. I mean, and then. And then later on he went, ah, I don't know about. But then. But then later in the season and in the playoffs, like, he would like, he can block and there's some real force to it. So I think that is galaxy brained on your part. I think it's a little bit of a stupid thought, but I also don't totally disagree, which I think is our sweet spot of like, that is not necessarily the smartest thing I've ever heard. And also I. I'm with you. [00:31:01] Speaker A: You're not wrong. You might just be early or you're very stupid. We'll find out in due time. But not right now, which is the general theme of most things that I say. But just follow me here. Like, they can't do a lot of the cool stuff in the backfield. So like dash motion, I think is going to be fundamentally something that they do this year as Part of their offense with Kyle Jus check. Which does alleviate some of the need for two tight end sets in that you're changing gaps, which is something you really have to do against five man front, six man fronts, dynamic fronts, which is what they're facing these days and is all the rage around the league. Turning everything into changing gaps, changing assignments on the fly is vital for this team to run the football. Having someone who can kind of do a dash motion in the same way where you don't know if they're going to get a little. Little flick of a pass, which they're doing a little shuttle pass to Juice. If you don't know if they're going to just get a straight like RPO handoff or you go out in the flat. Like I think that they can use them in a weird way as like a tight split flanker fullback that is somewhat replicant of a tight end. Doing the same sort of thing with Kyle Jus Check. Now that is certainly galaxy brain, but it's not because of his heft, which is also one of his detriments these days comparatively to where he was at. Like, because of that. And the 19 will help is you can. You can use him a bit as a battering ram because he doesn't have that same straight line speed that he once did. That's probably more beneficial for where they're at now than. Than running them. Like they. I don't know. I don't know if he's going to do full house stuff in the backfield or this and that, but that's what [00:32:54] Speaker B: I was getting at. Just a full house, just in a circle. Basically. The Chiefs play that I don't. I don't think worked where they just. [00:33:01] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:33:02] Speaker B: Ring around the rosie. [00:33:03] Speaker A: Well, they did. They've run this play a couple of times where they'll flex Kittle opposite of Purdy to like Purdy's right shoulder with McCaffrey to his left. And then Juice is offline but connected and then he does dash like it's a little wishbone. But they, they like that as a gap run and Debo is a better option at that than I think Kittle is because of the threat to run. [00:33:35] Speaker B: If you're not looking at this and you're not thinking about the possibility of six offensive linemen. Vedarian Lau out there and Kittle and [00:33:44] Speaker A: it might be the sticks. Offensive lineman for whatever. [00:33:47] Speaker B: Yeah, I like that. And then stribling and Juice and Debo and you just have. It's just a mat. It's Just a mound. It's a mound of guys. [00:33:58] Speaker A: We're doing. We're going option. We're going Willie Fritz, Tulane, like option football. And I'm pulling everybody. And honestly, that's kind of outside zone stuff. I know that it's the bread and butter. I know that you can still run it, but, like, in an era where you don't know who's coming and who's going, you got to run a lot of gap. [00:34:20] Speaker B: Just turn it into. Just turn it into the kickoffs now, where you're sort of watching and you're seeing who gets picked up and you figure it out. That's what every play should be. [00:34:29] Speaker A: I can tell you someone who's probably going to have a job returning kicks. Debo Samuel, like, yeah, he pretty good at it, too, in the say, because if James isn't healthy, well, now Debo is the. You know, I guess you could put Watkins back there, but you want more of a running back body. He is fast when he gets ahead of steam. The whole thing with playing wide receiver is that, like. Yeah, you often don't because someone hits you in the first five yards. Kind of hard to get a good running start. [00:35:01] Speaker B: This is what we're getting at. [00:35:02] Speaker A: Yes. [00:35:02] Speaker B: We've talked about the Navy offense before. [00:35:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:35:05] Speaker B: This is what's happening. [00:35:06] Speaker A: Navy offense actually has one more player in it. It's a whole other. [00:35:09] Speaker B: I know. And they've got weird weight requirements and it's a whole. [00:35:14] Speaker A: And this is, again, you got to get up on your. Your group of five, you know, Willie Fritz, I guess Willie Fritz is at Houston now, but when he was at Tulane, before that he was at Sam Houston State, he ran a speed option, which is. It was good stuff. It was because he had the full house backfield quarterback and they could throw it a little bit now, but, like, it was mostly between the hashes. Run the ball. [00:35:36] Speaker B: Peter has an encyclopedic knowledge of college football. And we're also going to be adding Navy manually to our football league. [00:35:44] Speaker A: You keep saying this like it's possible. [00:35:46] Speaker B: You're the three power four. And we're going to manual code Navy. [00:35:50] Speaker A: America's teams. I mean, yeah, army runs a better option. [00:35:53] Speaker B: The aac, baby. I know all of the small conference. [00:35:56] Speaker A: It's true. I don't know, man. There is. There is also, like, an opportunity here to bemoan the fact that it's July 30th and they're already pressing the Debo button. Like, I don't want it to pretend as if, like, this is Not a catastrophic thing. Like, this is. Of all of your bad options, like, this is probably your best one. [00:36:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:36:21] Speaker A: But let's not lose sight of the fact that it's a bad option. [00:36:25] Speaker B: Like, I laugh. I laugh really hard. I laughed genuinely very hard when I saw this pop up, because it didn't even surprise me. No, no. It was the most. Of course. Of course. Of course. Signing of all time. That makes a lot of sense. And again, I'm a fan of it. I think it's at the price point. I think it's a good move with the situation they're in, but it's not good. It's not good that they had to do this. Like, you shouldn't be encouraged in, like, all right, offense is fixed. [00:36:59] Speaker A: Finally. [00:37:00] Speaker B: They're in trouble. They're in a lot of trouble. [00:37:03] Speaker A: Yeah. And the shallowness of this team. Well, okay, actually, I want to. I want to. I want to spin this to bigger picture here, because it's something you and I have talked about a bunch, and I really do want to pound at home. And much like a Navy offense in that they don't have. Forgive the terminology. Like, there's no second timeline for this team. Like, good NFL teams constantly have good players that allow teams that are successful to say, actually, we don't need that guy anymore because we have this guy who's coming up and we'll have to pay him and we'll let the old guys walk. And the Niners don't have that to the point where they're bringing back old guys. Like, right, there's Ricky Pearsall. Couldn't be trusted to get through two practices after all of that. Right. Jordan James is not going to have a training camp for his first two years in the NFL. Like, this is not great, how shallow this team is, even though it has a lot of dudes and they'll have some tough roster cuts. Like, there's nobody who's on their second. [00:38:15] Speaker B: Who's. [00:38:16] Speaker A: Who's in on their first contract that you're pointing to and saying, oh, boy, he's going to cost a lot on a second. [00:38:21] Speaker B: That's kind of where my head's at, is you can have optimism about, like, the upside of this team. It's not over, Right? [00:38:29] Speaker A: No. [00:38:30] Speaker B: We've talked about, like, how many different ways this season could go from the start, and it would start with health. But I want to think about, like, when they pushed it up, pushed their chips in and went all in, and they sort of sent it in 2019. They made the move for Emmanuel Sanders, right? Like, they got him and it helped elevate them. They traded for McCaffrey earlier on. They got, you know, Trent Williams for a song. They were able to make moves. They had draft compensation they could use because they already had young stars in the pipeline, which helps sort of build the infrastructure. They don't have a pipeline. They can't use draft picks to do it. And it's. I mean, they could, but at the same time, like, it's going to be very difficult for them to be in such an advantageous position at the trade deadline that they could reasonably say, oh, yeah, we're definitely better than the Rams. We're definitely better than the Seahawks to say we're going to go get, like, the one other piece that we do need to fulfill this puzzle because we actually can't afford it if it backfires. Which is not quite as bad as a warrior situation where it's two timelines, but it's not all that far off. It gets pretty precarious pretty quick because they just haven't drafted well enough to replicate and build those, like, deep tunnels of talent to say, oh, we lost this guy. But at least they're. They're not the Sharks. They don't have an embarrassment of riches, which we will end with the Sharks, by the way. There were, like, three of you out there who are desperate. They don't have that pipeline. It's not there. [00:39:55] Speaker A: No, they don't have a viable backup for George Kittle. They don't have the future left tackle. And we've talked about if that's a good or a bad thing, but, like, there's not. There's no one even surprising us in knocking on that door. They have some nice young receivers, but they're down the one who had the most promise. And maybe that is stribling by the end of the year, but as of right now, we have no idea. Very early returns and no shoulder pads yet. Also, who knows, he might be injured by the time this whole damn thing starts. Like, I'm just looking at the depth chart right now. They'd bring back Dre Greenlaw because none of their linebackers that they've drafted were worth a damn. Renardo Green is fighting for his job with Jack Jones right now, and I think greens look good. Like, I'm feeling optimistic about that battle and, like, Raheem Morris kind of figuring out, like, the only way to get through to Green is to scare the hell out of them, scare them straight. But, like, they don't know who their safeties are. Like the question of who who on this team as it currently stands, which is unfair to many, who is on their first contract will get paid the most on their second contract is a battle between Upton Stout and Dominic Puni. [00:41:14] Speaker B: Right now a guard, it's probably puny just for being even if he's just mediocre that gets paid at this point. [00:41:23] Speaker A: Yeah, because like I don't know if they're going to pick up Ricky Pearsall's fifth year option. In fact I would bet that they don't at this point. It's more than 13, $14 million now that I haven't looked it up but I'm just guessing on that like I don't think they'll pick it up. So now he's going into a contract year four. [00:41:43] Speaker B: I don't think they can pick it up. I don't think they can't. I mean in an ideal situation it sets up where he just comes back and he's healthy and he finally gets right and he has a great season and they're able to sign him to like some but like that's like wishful thinking to even imagine that he's going to be healthy at this point which again is such a bummer. I we were openly such huge fans of it. He's so talented. The tape is awesome when he's out [00:42:08] Speaker A: played every game in college. [00:42:09] Speaker B: Just can't stay out there and maybe that's what it was. Maybe college just like he took so he had so many hospital balls and all that. But also like biomechanics. No one knows. People like to pretend like it's a training staff or as if there's like it's like these guys train hard and they get in really good shape and they have access to the best medical care. But they're also like that's the curse of, of the whole twitched up muscle system. Right. Is like because you're like training to be at these like really springy muscle fibers like stuff tears, right? [00:42:42] Speaker A: Yeah, we see, we see it all the time. [00:42:43] Speaker B: Explosive movements. [00:42:44] Speaker A: It's why you don't expect anyone to play more than 60 games in the NBA anymore. But when everyone was just sort of lollygagging up and down the court and giving you YMCA ball, they could play all 82. [00:42:53] Speaker B: But now it's why like Tommy John in the, in MLB is just like a given. It's like, oh, at some point you'll need it. [00:42:59] Speaker A: Well that's because the human UCL cannot handle the actual force delivered by a 95 mile per hour fastball, like fundamentally can't do it. Just looking this up right now, last year, the fifth year option for a receiver who's done nothing. Who's done nothing. So not play time, not Pro bowl, not more than one Pro bowl or All Pro or anything like that. And I don't think playtime is 50 or greater all three seasons. I don't think that's going to apply to Pearsall. 75% or greater in over all three seasons on average, or 75 or greater in two of their first three. Like, I don't think that that qual. I don't think Ricky qualifies for any of them. So I think he'd qualify for the lowest number. But that lowest number is probably going to be 17 million. I don't think they're going to give it to him. I think they'll. [00:43:46] Speaker B: I don't think you can because that's. Because it's not. There's no leeway with it. It's fully guaranteed. If that's like a. If that's like a 10 plus 7 with incentives, that's like a conversation to have with him aft, you know, but like you, they, they're gonna have to ride it out. I don't think in good conscience they can possibly pick up that fifth, fifth year option, even if that ends up becoming a steal. [00:44:09] Speaker A: That sucks so bad. [00:44:12] Speaker B: It's legitimately a bummer. I was so excited to see it in this offense with Mike Evans and the possibilities of it. And it just. And again, there's been no concrete timeline and reporting, but it's. It's. It's over. [00:44:26] Speaker A: It's over. I mean, it's just, I, I would expect tomorrow or a couple days later that we get the word that Ricky's going under the knife. And it's going to be. They won't say it's year ending, but [00:44:37] Speaker B: they'll say maybe in the playoffs or something like that. [00:44:39] Speaker A: I'll be like, oh, you know, we'll see on the timeframe he'll be reevaluated and then in December we'll ask and it's like, oh, it's. Think about him. [00:44:47] Speaker B: Quick, quick question for you. If, if we're going with the theme of, you know, bringing back Drake Greenlawn, bringing back Debo Samuel. Yeah. Who's the next guy that you would want them to bring back? Because for me it's Dante Johnson. [00:45:01] Speaker A: Oh, I was on where he left. [00:45:06] Speaker B: They replaced him with. What's his name? Cannon or whatever his name is. Yeah, sorry. Not Trenton Cannon. That is a deep cut. [00:45:15] Speaker A: That is a deep cut. I believe you're talking about Derek Canteen. [00:45:19] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:45:21] Speaker A: What's Elijah Mitchell up to? [00:45:23] Speaker B: Oh, man. [00:45:24] Speaker A: Is he. [00:45:24] Speaker B: Is he on the Chiefs? Oh, he's. He went to the Eagles. [00:45:28] Speaker A: Did he, though? [00:45:29] Speaker B: I don't know. [00:45:30] Speaker A: Is that factual? Yeah, I guess he was on the. It's on the practice squad for the Patriots at one point last year. That ain't good. Yeah. I love watching Elijah Mitchell. I found him, you know, he was incredible. [00:45:43] Speaker B: And then his body went, what are we doing? That's not happening again. Let me. [00:45:48] Speaker A: Let me pull up like, the 20, 22 niners. If they're just going to try to recreate that. [00:45:53] Speaker B: It's tough to be a running back man because, like, you get zero reward for having an awesome rookie year. You get zero reward for having an awesome first two years. Like, you need to have a great third. Third year in the league to have any chance of, like, making real money. [00:46:09] Speaker A: What's Ross Dwelly doing? [00:46:11] Speaker B: I believe he is working for George Kittle in some capacity. That's a joke. That's a joke. And I'm also like, I bet he's just watching his house in Tennessee while George's playing. [00:46:23] Speaker A: How long until Willie Snead shows up? [00:46:25] Speaker B: Oh, I was surprised they didn't go for Dante Pettis. He. He. He signed for, I think, the Bills today. [00:46:32] Speaker A: Oh, hey, now, Where's Ray Ray McLeod these days? [00:46:37] Speaker B: Didn't he get, like, benched in, like, a pretty. He was on the. Was he on the Falcons last year or something? And he got, like, benched and there was like a whole thing where he was going at his teammates online. [00:46:50] Speaker A: Sure. [00:46:50] Speaker B: There's a. There's a deep online saga that I believe was rare. And McLeod, if it wasn't, I'm sorry. [00:46:56] Speaker A: Ray Ray McLeod, 29 years old, 5 foot 9, 185, does not appear to have a current football team, at least according to Wikipedia. [00:47:04] Speaker B: 5 foot 9, 185 is always crazy to me. Again, it's. Whenever I see a wide receiver 29 [00:47:09] Speaker A: years old, though, baby. [00:47:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Now, wait. Now we're talking. Now we're talking. [00:47:15] Speaker A: Yeah. Is he available? [00:47:17] Speaker B: Oh, well, I think he's probably competing for a job. [00:47:21] Speaker A: Where is Jake Moody? This is great content, by the way. Feeling fantastic about all of this. He apparently is on the Commanders. I should. [00:47:30] Speaker B: I should have known that. [00:47:32] Speaker A: Heaven. Heaven forbid. [00:47:34] Speaker B: I should have known that. Yeah, I probably haven't been. You've been very critical from the start. But they're a joke. [00:47:42] Speaker A: The Commanders. [00:47:43] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:47:44] Speaker A: Yeah, there's. There's no rhyme or reason to anything. Now. I do think that some stability has shown up here a little bit. We'll see how David Bl. Works as a Blau. It's blah. Works as an offensive coordinator. I've heard nothing but really good things about him and his football mind. Who? Dan Brunskill. Bring his. Bring his very attractive wife. [00:48:09] Speaker B: That is a winner. [00:48:10] Speaker A: Dan Brunskill. I was unfamiliar with your game, sir. Yeah, he is Ben Garland up to. [00:48:17] Speaker B: Anyway, continue. [00:48:19] Speaker A: Ben Garland was a monster of a man. Little bitty guy by offensive lineman standards, but a true man. What was I even talking about? Sorry. I got totally off track just thinking about Brunskills. Preposterously too good looking for him. Wife and I apologize. But like, he knows he does. [00:48:43] Speaker B: I have no comment. I have no comment on this. [00:48:46] Speaker A: Just saying. Just saying. The man. The man can run any business. [00:48:50] Speaker B: Shall we take some questions? [00:48:52] Speaker A: No, no. You were asking a question. [00:48:55] Speaker B: Who would you want them to bring back? [00:49:00] Speaker A: Kind of hard not to go with Brun. Skill now. [00:49:03] Speaker B: I know it's so good of an answer. I mean, it's. Buckner doesn't work because he's actually still a good player. And it doesn't work like that. But it has to be sort of in the. The washed vein. [00:49:15] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:49:16] Speaker B: Wow. I mean, Juwan. Juwan's the obvious answer. This is not good content. [00:49:23] Speaker A: But no. I do like Griff coming in, though, with devondre Campbell. Can't believe that guy hasn't gotten a job. [00:49:30] Speaker B: It's gonna be one of those things where in three years he announces he. He retired. And people are like, oh, I didn't. Interesting. [00:49:36] Speaker A: We know, buddy. We're there. [00:49:38] Speaker B: I was there. I was the one who saw it. Yeah. [00:49:43] Speaker A: You had the scoop from the press box. [00:49:46] Speaker B: Yeah, Well, I went. He's not hurt. And they have no linebackers remaining. Where did he go? And I. My actual instinct was I think he quit on the team. Yeah. And Kyle was eager to tell us that, actually, which is fun. [00:50:02] Speaker A: It's like, why is John lynch down there? It's the third quarter. [00:50:05] Speaker B: I went, so. So he quit and kind of went, Yep, yep. [00:50:11] Speaker A: Just wanted to let you know that. [00:50:13] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:50:13] Speaker A: Let's do some good times. [00:50:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:50:15] Speaker A: I'll just keep trying to remember some guys. [00:50:18] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. [00:50:19] Speaker A: Like Jordan Finale's coming. Saying, like, Jordan Mason, but like, Jordan Mason's on a team. Is Javon Kinlaw on a team? I think he signed with the Jets. [00:50:27] Speaker B: I assume he is either with the jets or the Commanders. [00:50:29] Speaker A: And, oh, no, he certainly signed with the Titans. Right? [00:50:34] Speaker B: That sounds right. That sounds right. [00:50:36] Speaker A: He's with the Commanders. I'm wrong. [00:50:38] Speaker B: Levine. Toy Lola. All right, you're again, another banger after banger. [00:50:43] Speaker A: Ken Webster. UPS to Ken Webster. I know. Alex Samson. Abu Kompson. Yeah, here's one. Here's a good one. Now, I'm pretty sure he's on the Bills, but Trent Sherfield, oh, that's a cray. Craft's already been signed. I think he had. [00:50:59] Speaker B: He like built a little career. There's also. I can't remember his name. I don't know if he's still in the roster, but they've had a guy who's been on the practice squad for a decade on their defensive line who, Whose name I completely forget, always wore like the number like 50. He was a terrible D line number. He was always wearing like 58, which is now Romello height. [00:51:22] Speaker A: Don't love it. Don't love it. Doesn't look good. [00:51:25] Speaker B: I understand Von Miller rushes like that. It's a very high bar to pull that off. [00:51:31] Speaker A: Yeah. 94 look better. [00:51:34] Speaker B: 94 look better. [00:51:35] Speaker A: Look cool. I'm gonna throw this your way just to just get the positive response. [00:51:42] Speaker B: Oh, he did, he did. It was funny though, like, because I remember they were like asking like Aaron Donald to be about this. And Aaron Donald was getting really upset. They're like, he's like, I'm not losing to Daniel Brunskill. And then he kind of did, even though he actually wasn't matched up with him all that much. [00:51:57] Speaker A: Yeah, no. [00:51:58] Speaker B: Which was the funniest part of it. [00:52:00] Speaker A: But if, again, if Aaron Donald is back on the Rams, Brunskill has to come back to the net. This is, this is gospel. This is what we're going to recreate. The 21, the 21 49ers, except the Rams were not in on it. What about. [00:52:14] Speaker B: They need. They need to. Oh, Michael Pruitt, he's my favorite. He is. [00:52:20] Speaker A: He hasn't had a job for two years. But you know, I know he's available. Being 49er. [00:52:27] Speaker B: He's available. [00:52:28] Speaker A: I'm just looking at all the guys that they cut. Were you aware that, haha, Clinton Dix was at one point a San Francisco 49er? [00:52:35] Speaker B: I believe he was. Right before they found Desean Gibson, which is why I didn't take Desean Gibson seriously because he was like the third or fourth one time pro bowl safety that they'd gone through that off season. They're like Clinton Dicks. Yeah. [00:52:50] Speaker A: What's Josh Norman doing these days? [00:52:53] Speaker B: Oh my God, the Josh Norman game. That was crazy. [00:52:59] Speaker A: I think Ronald Blair still got a couple snaps in him. He's a very good coach, but I'm. [00:53:05] Speaker B: I mean, at this point he's gonna, he's gonna make it on the field. What about Kerry Heider Jr? [00:53:09] Speaker A: Oh, love it, love it. Apparently Justin School still has a job in the NFL, which is hard to believe. [00:53:15] Speaker B: He's been like the backup left tackle for like the Bucks for I think five years. [00:53:20] Speaker A: It's. Yeah, it's 2022 to 2024. Then he played for the Vikings last year and I know that because it was mentioned a lot and not. [00:53:29] Speaker B: I do remember that. [00:53:30] Speaker A: And then he signed again with the Buccaneers this past year. What about Anthony Zettle? [00:53:36] Speaker B: Oh, I remember that. I believe it was a seventh round pick that they traded for him and he made like one good play and we were like Anthony Zettel. [00:53:44] Speaker A: How about that? Yeah, I don't think he played a game for him. I'm literally just going through all the players. There's a lot of people who come in and out on a football team. That's all I'm gonna say. Yeah. [00:53:54] Speaker B: All right, let's. There's a couple. There's a couple of actual questions. [00:53:58] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:53:58] Speaker B: Surely known as a smart dude. He looks part. But does he have the head to click with Kyle and Brock right away? [00:54:06] Speaker A: That's the least. That should be the least of anyone's concerns. First off, full grown man. Second, military family. Listen, I'm not going to. I went to an SEC school so I don't need to be cast in dispersions on certain academia qualities of Ole Miss or Wazoo. But as a fellow, you know, land grant State University attendee and graduate, though it took some work. Almost didn't pull that one off. You know, it's not like, you know, it's not like it's a use check where he went to Harvard and now is just presumed to be smart. But this, this kid's got the goods. [00:54:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:54:49] Speaker A: The way that he was able to handle the media, very thoughtful in his answers. You can see that he can critically think like it's not a high bar. And it is probably over extrapolation from a very limited window, but they're moving them all around the field. I have not seen an instance yet where it appears that he was running the wrong route, which is more than I can say about most guys, including Mike Evans, who kind of ran a wrong route the other day. As you would expect. First couple practices on A new team. There's a lot of options available to receivers. It. [00:55:24] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:55:25] Speaker A: Again, the last thing I would be concerned about is stribling. The reason that stribling. So, like, stribling wasn't on many people's radar, draft radars, including ours, until the very end. But enough people had watched his tape at Ole Miss to where they brought him in on top 50s, and then he gets in the building on top 50s and they start breaking down top 50s. It's kind of like top quizzes. And when he left, I mean, I know for a fact in one building, if not multiple, they're like, oh, we have to do everything in our power to make sure that man is a member of our football team. I don't think he came across as airheaded or, you know, I think that's [00:56:05] Speaker B: the one thing, like, you can bank on pretty confidently. It's like the technical ability might be a question mark in terms of, like, how he can actually be employed. Like, he's maybe not going to be as. Like, you said you liked his route running. But I. There's like a clear difference in his tape and what we saw from Pierce, all coming out of college for sure. Just in terms of the violence and the quickness breaking out of ro. He has, like, he gets a foot in the ground and he can go, but it's. It's not quite the same. It's not quite as sharp, but, like, the mental acuity, the actual physical talent is all there. And I think there's a level of, like, he doesn't seem to really give a shit. Like, he seems pretty unflappable. Seems. [00:56:48] Speaker A: I don't know if I qualified. It. Don't give a. But he certainly. [00:56:51] Speaker B: No, no, no, no. What I mean is this in terms [00:56:53] Speaker A: of, like, self preservation. [00:56:56] Speaker B: Yeah. It's not that he doesn't care. It's that, like, he's not concerned about the whole apparatus and all the other stuff going on. He just seems pretty like, I'm gonna go to work. Feels serious about it. Yeah, yeah. [00:57:11] Speaker A: What about Josh Hokut? What's he up to? [00:57:14] Speaker B: He is a very, very good MMA fighter, unfortunately. [00:57:18] Speaker A: Cool, Cool. Simba Webster. [00:57:20] Speaker B: He's, like, competing for the, like, the heavyweight. He's gonna, like, compete for the heavyweight title. Wow. Sure. [00:57:27] Speaker A: Dana's thrilled with that. [00:57:29] Speaker B: Yeah, it's bad vibes over there. [00:57:32] Speaker A: Alex Barrett. Alex Barrett was the player. [00:57:34] Speaker B: That's exactly who I was thinking of. [00:57:36] Speaker A: Alex Barrett, just. [00:57:36] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:57:37] Speaker A: Always. He had like 42 different numbers. They just had to keep changing his number. [00:57:41] Speaker B: A Fair question here. Pierce Dolls knee doesn't flare up yesterday and they still signed Debo today. Do we still feel this way about it? [00:57:48] Speaker A: I think that that is a. This is an ipso facto move. [00:57:54] Speaker B: Yeah. They don't sign Debo unless this happens. [00:57:57] Speaker A: If we're going to entertain the idea that they didn't, it's certainly. Okay, fine. Now you've replaced Jacob Cowing. I feel a hell of a lot better about Debo Samuel than Jacob Cowling. I'm not sure Debo Samuel is too thrilled with showing up and being like, hey, you're fourth on the depth chart. Maybe third. I don't know. We'll see. [00:58:16] Speaker B: Or second. Running back. We'll see. [00:58:18] Speaker A: Yeah, right. [00:58:20] Speaker B: Again. Again. That was like. One of my first thoughts was like, the cmc, like, I think they're going to use him in that way again. I think they're going to need to. I don't know how much. [00:58:31] Speaker A: Pretty good, man. Yeah, we'll see. Just saying. What else we got? [00:58:37] Speaker B: Nothing. [00:58:38] Speaker A: No, we got Brad here. Brad. Coming through. Super chat. [00:58:41] Speaker B: I missed it. [00:58:42] Speaker A: Fifteen Australian dollars, which I believe they call didgeridoos. Two questions. One, what do you think of Kyle's interview with the other breast reporters? I presume he's talking about the. The Belgian soccer team. [00:58:55] Speaker B: You beat me to it. God damn it. [00:58:57] Speaker A: Like Richard. Shout out, what up, big Meeks? I think that this is the natural byproduct of the 49ers not recognizing this interest in the situation at the moment when it happened. Not getting something out, not even in the moment, but a couple days later. Just be like, hey, a couple days ago, Kyle Shannon was in a car accident. You know, he's okay this and that. But, like, we're just letting you know, [00:59:27] Speaker B: full transparency up front about what actually took place. As if, like, it. Because the nature of the way it came out, everyone's going to look into it even more than if it had been found out sort of, I don't know, early. [00:59:40] Speaker A: And they're looking. And they're looking at it in with. With a raised eyebrow. Right. [00:59:45] Speaker B: For sure. [00:59:46] Speaker A: Again, I want to repeat my official stance. It shouldn't have required the San Francisco 49ers sending out a press release for someone to have found this out. That is a fundamental failure of my news organization, of the chronicle of local TV news, of people who are responsible for finding out news in your community that is news in your community that was not found out until The San Francisco 49ers told us about it. Because they kind of had to honestly [01:00:17] Speaker B: Again, you mentioned it, but, like, it really is like, almost a. Like, really local. Palo Alto should have kind of been. That's usually how that stuff matriculates is like a smaller papers, like, oh, an accident. Who? Oh, what? And then it sort of comes that way. [01:00:32] Speaker A: And I appreciate that it is not easy to do that, given that there are a ton of car crashes every day. Given that. It's not like you're getting hospital records on who was admitted and that no one was cited, but. And stuff especially with no citations and things like that. Like that. Also not getting through the system for a while. [01:00:51] Speaker B: Palo Alto is a little bit of a different town on the. [01:00:53] Speaker A: Yes, it is. Yes, it is. It is a college town, but not in the way that we usually refer to college. [01:00:58] Speaker B: It's like, if it's. Here's how I like it. It's like if you go to the marina in San Francisco, you're like, why does this feel like l. A little. It's a little bit like that sensation to me, where it's a little techy. It's like a little like, Burlington. A little smidge of that. Where you're like, what's happening here? This isn't the Bay Area. This is like its own Silicon Valley manifestation of it, which in its own way, very bare. [01:01:23] Speaker A: It's a bizarre place, and it is a extremely provincial place relative to the piers. I mean, this is. I will also note that this is an issue I heard. I was privy to a conversation of Chicago. Chicago. And being like, this wouldn't have happened in Chicago. Like, we would. We know about that stuff the next minute. And it's like, yeah, I don't know how to explain how complicated the Bay Area is relative to Chicago. Like, sure, Chicago has suburbs, but there is one singular city from which all things emanate. And the Bears run the city. Like, even when they suck, they're the most important thing in Chicago. And that is the case in all but maybe two towns in America, right? And the Bay Area, not San Francisco. The Bay Area is one of them in that there are three major cities in the Bay Area. Only two of them still have sports teams, but there are three major cities. [01:02:25] Speaker B: How dare you say that about the roots, dude? [01:02:28] Speaker A: I got into it the roots today. And then local journalism and the Peninsula is its whole other thing. And let's be honest about this. One of my massive complaints about this region and fanhood in this region is that people can take it or leave it, that it is a fly by night sort of a thing. And I understand that there are immensely die hard fans and that the Niners have a national brand that extends way beyond the Bay Area. It's the only reason that we can have a show like I. Yeah, people in the Bay. Art. It is not do or die. It is not Chicago. It is not, you know, Minneapolis. I'm just going to go through like, [01:03:13] Speaker B: yeah, the weather's too nice. There's too much money. [01:03:16] Speaker A: There's too many people just don't give a about sports. [01:03:19] Speaker B: The. I have an entire friend group that all grew up in the Bay Area. None of them care. [01:03:23] Speaker A: No, there's a whole other world where they just make stuff up and make billions of dollars off of it. You know, a whole fraudulent thing going on there. But it is PDX Niner. Like, this is where we're starting on Chicago slander. They sold their parking meters to private equity and regret it. Who cares what Chicago thinks? That's your standard. They sold the parking meter. Sir, are you familiar with how Clipper Card works here in the Bay? Maybe that's even the better way to explain it all. Think about how complicated it is to fucking take bart. You know why it's so complicated? Because there's like seven different counties involved in all of this. [01:04:02] Speaker B: Right. And that it's like completely bankrupt despite being in one of the wealthiest regions on the planet. And we're like, there's no money. [01:04:11] Speaker A: And then they sold out their entire ticketing thing to BART or to Clipper. So then that's a third party thing so that everyone could have the same thing. But it's really through a company. And now it's like, well, luckily they did the tap to pay thing. But like, my point is merely. This is a very strange spot. Los Angeles has a lot of these same issues too. Los Angeles didn't have a football team for 25 years. They only really have one now. Shout out the Chargers though. No one cares. No one cares about the Chargers. Except my dog. [01:04:39] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. [01:04:41] Speaker A: So it is, it is only to say that like, yes, there are a lot of mark like in Seattle. Oh, they would have found out immediately. Well, everything emanates out of one major. I know Tacoma is a city. I'm not disparaging Tacoma. I will disparage like Bellingham. But like, it is like Tacoma's a bleak place, brother. There's some spots actually, you know, there are some. But it does get bleak. [01:05:03] Speaker B: Yeah. I'm not, I'm not saying I haven't had a good time in Tacoma. I'm also saying that you can have a real Bad time there. [01:05:10] Speaker A: Oakland, California, but. [01:05:13] Speaker B: But much messier. [01:05:17] Speaker A: Sure. Yeah. There's some deeply pale people there, and it's not just the lack of sun. So it's only to say that this is a more complicated environment in which to do something like this. And yet there's still no excuse for it happening. The Niners, I think I was. I pretty sure this was on ESPN today with the Niners. They, like, according to sources, the Niners didn't send it out because it was a dead period. In NFL news, it's like, buddy, like, right. You can't admit, like, we know that's the case. Like, I was told specifically that's the case. They're like, oh, we didn't think it would be an issue. And then Kyle would show up to training camp. He would do a little press conference and be like, yeah, I'm banged up. I got in a car accident. We'd be like, what? And then five minutes later, we'd be like, well, everything seems to be okay, so we're moving on. They got caught. They got caught because he's not right. And he's not going to be right for a little bit now. But I fully coach it. [01:06:17] Speaker B: And he admitted he caused the accident, which that is a whole other component of, like, now you have to. And then. [01:06:26] Speaker A: Yeah, I don't. I don't understand the fervor of the conversation around it in that, like, do a lot of people just care about, like, insurance adjustment? Like, that's between him and his insurance company? [01:06:43] Speaker B: No, I think he's just a famous person. The way it came out was weird. And so it. Yes, people were. Honestly, people were expecting a dui. That's. That's what the, like, fervor and the weird online sentiment was. And so the fact that it was strange than that and there was fault on his part, people were wound up to expect that. And so sort of like, regardless of what was said, that there was any fault, that was the sort of fixation. I think. [01:07:11] Speaker A: Well, I think it's people just really wanting something to be a grand conspiracy. And I don't. They. And then first off, so much random shit was thrown against the wall that someone's like, something has to stick. [01:07:25] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:07:26] Speaker A: And then it's. When the answer is very unsatisfactory for that line of thinking. They're like, nah, we didn't get all the story. And this is the problem with conspiracy theorists, so let's keep moving the goal posts. And again, it's not to say that there isn't issues in this process. And the Niners could have nipped this thing in the bud if they were a little more clever about how they went about their business. [01:07:50] Speaker B: But, like, it's right. You know, it's. It's the thing of, like, you know, when. Sometimes when you're, like, a kid and you're, like, upfront with your parents and you say something, it's like, actually, you're super worried about it. You think it's going to be a much bigger deal. [01:08:04] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:08:04] Speaker B: But then you hide it, and then you have to try and explain it, and you're like, oh, this sounds much worse. And then it becomes a bigger thing. Like, they kind. That tact is sort of, I think, what happened just. [01:08:16] Speaker A: Again, so if they would have just gotten in front of it. It's not that. It's not that big of it. I mean, it's a deal, but it's not that big. [01:08:24] Speaker B: And I, you know, it's. Yeah, it is strange that it wasn't reported. I think once they're like, it hasn't been reported on in three days, they're like, all right, well, let's ride this house. Let's see how long it takes. [01:08:36] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:08:36] Speaker B: And then maybe he'll be good. [01:08:38] Speaker A: Yeah. There's all. There's also the fact of, like, give them a couple of days, because it's not like people don't have Kyle Shanahan's phone number. Like, it's like, give him a couple of days. If you don't want it out, don't let it get out. But the second he gets his head on a little bit straight, it's like, hey, man, we're letting you know. Because if there's anything. Think about the Andrew Wiggins situation with the Warriors. I mean, the level of, like, oh, we wouldn't want to. We wouldn't want to get involved in any of that around here is. Is insane. So. And I don't care for that, but it's just. It's. It's all to come back to. They. They miscalculated the scenario. And in that they invited conspiracy theory. And I have no. Kyle wouldn't have had to call that press conference privately in his office, having to explain stuff on and off the record. If not for the 49ers PR team misplaying this thing probably through benevolent means, but they misplayed it. [01:09:35] Speaker B: Right. Or just putting out a very clear statement about it. And there would have been more questions and there would have been all this. But. [01:09:42] Speaker A: But that's the other thing, too. Like, they. They. One of the reasons listed why they didn't do it, and one of the reasons they copped to is, oh, well, it was a dead period. Everyone was on vacation. It's like, yeah, you ever hear of a five o' clock news dump? Like, that's when you drop not awesome stuff. Like, don't. Don't try to pretend like, oh, well, we didn't want to bother you with this. That's like such a classic mom. Like, something bad happens with your dad and your mom's like, oh, we didn't want to bother you. [01:10:10] Speaker B: Yeah. Isn't it great when you get a text like that from your parents? You're like. They're like, so, like, hey, how's it going? What's the recipe you use for that, by the way? I fell down the stairs. [01:10:20] Speaker A: Yeah? Yeah. What do you mean? My dad got his appendix out and he almost died three months ago, so. Well, if you called more, we would, you know, we would have told you, but we just didn't want to bother you. [01:10:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:10:30] Speaker A: You're so busy with the kids. [01:10:33] Speaker B: By the way, second part of the question. What are we hearing about the Rams and Seahawks? Rams top heavy and Seahawks very little noise. [01:10:41] Speaker A: There's a lot of noise with the Seahawks. They lost a lot of good players. They lost their offensive coordinator a lot. [01:10:46] Speaker B: Riding on Jadarian Price a lot. [01:10:49] Speaker A: And beyond that, like, early returns don't sound awesome. Otherwise, it's your man, George Holani. [01:10:56] Speaker B: Hey, do not besmirch my boy from Boise State. [01:11:00] Speaker A: I didn't. He's about to be a starting NFL running back. [01:11:03] Speaker B: I love him. He was. He's tremendous. [01:11:07] Speaker A: I mean, I'm not sure I'm too keen to draft him in fantasy, like. [01:11:11] Speaker B: No. But he will be a key waiver wire pickup at some point this season. That will define a couple weeks. [01:11:18] Speaker A: I think that team is really relying on, like, Tori Horton, George Holani. [01:11:23] Speaker B: I think as a Tory Horse fan, I'm. That's scary. It's a scary proposition because Tori Horton's completely theoretical at this point. [01:11:32] Speaker A: Yeah, he's the Ricky Pearsall of the Seahawks. And, yeah, Cow Chieftain's like, I've heard Price doesn't look good. That's what I've heard, too. They've. They have thrown a lot of water on the fire early, and it doesn't sound like. It's just like, well, you know, we wouldn't want to put it on. [01:11:48] Speaker B: He wasn't a field guy. He wasn't a field guy. When we were watching him, it was like there was like, Explosive athletic talent. But it was like, this is clunky. [01:11:56] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:11:57] Speaker B: I. [01:11:58] Speaker A: We didn't have. Who was. Well, we had one first round running back and then Price was ranked second or third depending. And even then we're like, I don't know. Round three. [01:12:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:12:10] Speaker A: We knew it'd get bumped up, but like, he, I. He had a pretty clear round three grade on just upside, which is like, that's for sure. To do it. Where you're like, I've seen him play. I don't love it, but maybe he's a better pro than he is a college player. Like, weird. [01:12:24] Speaker B: If I was going to do that, I would have gone with, like, Demond Claiborne, who is pure explosion and pure chaos and was like, like, the downside's tremendous, but at least I know, like, fumbles. I know. Yeah, I know. If it hits. Yeah. Speaking of Bay Shoal Tutton. Anyway. [01:12:39] Speaker A: Yeah. So, Jake, why don't you regale everyone and maybe you can get some help here we have. [01:12:43] Speaker B: I made a trade for Bay Shawl Tutton. I've acquired him. [01:12:46] Speaker A: Oh, you made it. You pulled the trigger. [01:12:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I. Before I get yelled at, I. I traded away the running back, Judkins, because we have keepers, where you get two keepers and then you get two taxi guys. And if you've used a guy, you basically burn them. So taxi squad guys have to be guys in the first three years, so you get two keepers. So I've got Jane Daniels, Brock Bowers, and so I acquired. I needed a young guy, so I got rid of Judkins for a third and Tutton. So I was like, okay. He's also coming off a gnarly injury, which worries me a little bit. If he was purely healthy, I'd feel terrible about it. [01:13:31] Speaker A: Yeah. There's also the Chris Rodriguez of it all. They really, really like him down there in Jacksonville. I'm not sure if I want to go all the way in on the Jags. [01:13:39] Speaker B: Part of me, I don't either. I don't know how I feel about it. I'm not sure. I feel great. It could. It could blow up in my face. [01:13:44] Speaker A: London's favorite team. This is a good one here. The starting X, Y and Z down under [01:13:51] Speaker B: Mike Evans, Debo Samuel. [01:13:54] Speaker A: And so he truly has become a tight end. He's the why. [01:13:58] Speaker B: Oh, sorry. I did it in the wrong order. Dijon Stribling and Debo Samuel. [01:14:04] Speaker A: If we're talking X flanker, which is slot. [01:14:07] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:14:08] Speaker A: And F and Z. Yeah. I would say that it is Evans, Debo and Stripling. [01:14:16] Speaker B: Now, if we're talking about tight end, it's Charlie Warner. [01:14:20] Speaker A: Now we're talking. Michael Pruitt. Yeah, it is. It's dire times. I'm excited for tomorrow. [01:14:29] Speaker B: Yeah, me too. Yeah, he's just. [01:14:32] Speaker A: He's gonna. He's gonna be there and everyone's gonna be just watching him the whole time. And I'll get to actually do some decent reporting on other things that are happening without anyone else noticing. [01:14:43] Speaker B: I know. I'm excited. It'll be. I'll be down there on. On Monday. Pads should be on. [01:14:49] Speaker A: Should theoretically find out, I think actually [01:14:52] Speaker B: may never practice with pads on. [01:14:54] Speaker A: They might stop practicing altogether. They might just save it for Australia. Yeah, Yeah. I might not even be there on Monday. I think I have a dentist appointment I gotta go to, so. Thank God one of us is gonna be there. [01:15:06] Speaker B: Yeah, I'll be there. I'll steal Dieter's car and record from the car seat. [01:15:11] Speaker A: Please don't do that. Please don't do that. I will try to hustle that. We will, we will. We will do our best. What the fudge else do we need to do before we get the hell [01:15:21] Speaker B: up out of here like, and subscribe? Stick around. Oh, yeah, we're gonna have more stuff that. [01:15:26] Speaker A: That's it. That's it. [01:15:27] Speaker B: Yeah, Just keep coming back. We will be back with more and more and more and more and more and more. [01:15:33] Speaker A: Clearly too much. [01:15:34] Speaker B: You can't escape us. [01:15:35] Speaker A: We're going off of my energy right now and just the absolute faded that I threw in. I built a whole table tonight. It was bad. Like, not like from, like, not like woodworking or anything. I put together a flat back. I'm not that impressive, but yeah, still feels good. Oh, we got another super. Here we go. [01:15:53] Speaker B: Come on, man. I appreciate it. [01:15:56] Speaker A: Okay. No, no, honestly, just keep sending us supers. We will never end the stream. [01:16:00] Speaker B: That's true. Would it make more sense for the Niners to start trading their first round picks instead of missing so much? Feels like we'd be better off. This is the question that's always been around. [01:16:11] Speaker A: You mean like they just did, right? [01:16:14] Speaker B: This has been the question around their third round picks forever. Should they just start burning them? I mean, here's the thing. It's like the argument is like, if you actually trade them for a player that's competent, then you know what that is. [01:16:28] Speaker A: Dexter Lawrence. [01:16:30] Speaker B: Vita Vea. [01:16:32] Speaker A: Vita Ve is not worth a first round pick. [01:16:34] Speaker B: No, we already established that. [01:16:36] Speaker A: I heard second. [01:16:38] Speaker B: I don't love that, but yeah, second in Nick Martin. And they give back a fourth and I would do it. [01:16:46] Speaker A: How much are you paying them to take Nick Martin? I do, I do. I really, I really do love how they brought in two guys who are so physically different from Nick Martin. And they're like, you all played the same position now. And it's like, no, it's awesome. [01:17:04] Speaker B: Also Vita Vea again, I'm not talking about him to play defensive tackle. He is. And he's their tight end now. [01:17:12] Speaker A: That's the why. Tight end. They've always needed. [01:17:14] Speaker B: Yeah, we're. You know how Travis Hunter is going to play both sides of the ball? We're putting Vita Vea on both sides of the ball. [01:17:19] Speaker A: Now's a good time to remind everyone to go on YouTube and watch Vita Veya Milpitas high school football highlights when he played running back. Oh, and. And don't think he had some growth spurt either. [01:17:30] Speaker B: No. [01:17:31] Speaker A: He was that big then. Unbelievable. [01:17:33] Speaker B: No, no. We did forget one thing that we have to close on. [01:17:37] Speaker A: You know, I thought I looked Sharks. [01:17:39] Speaker B: Did we Sharks. We did not. Sharks. [01:17:41] Speaker A: Let's. Sharks. 18.8 for celebrini will go down. [01:17:45] Speaker B: Took less than he could have, which [01:17:47] Speaker A: is he could have did a lot, but 21 and the Sharks would have been like, sure, yeah, let's. Let's do that. Honestly, thank goodness for the Anaheim Ducks and thank goodness for Daniel Briere and the. The Flyers because this thing could have dragged on for a while. [01:18:07] Speaker B: Yep. [01:18:07] Speaker A: But when the Flyers threw in just an absolute napalm of an offer sheet on Leo Carlson, who's a wonderful player, but like not even close to Mac. Right. And they threw an 18 million dollar offer sheet which would have made him the highest or second highest paid player in the league. [01:18:27] Speaker B: Yeah, it made him the highest. [01:18:29] Speaker A: Yeah, that would have made him the high. And yeah, he was the highest until yesterday. So, yes, it made him the highest. That just. It's like, well, my career is not getting to hang out in a lake in Ontario anytime soon. Like, yeah, get this thing done yesterday. And it's funny, it kind of went under the radar, but Connor Bedard signed for 15mil about a week ago. And at the same time he's like, I also need surgery and I'm going to be out for like four months. [01:18:58] Speaker B: Yeah, that went very under the radar. [01:19:00] Speaker A: Very like, kind of. Bedard shouldn't go under the radar, but counter Bedard. It's impossible not to say that it's the John White. [01:19:11] Speaker B: The name is designed to be pronounced that way. [01:19:15] Speaker A: Vidyard. Yeah, he couldn't have ended up in a better market. So he goes for 15. And then Celebrini could have demanded 20 easy and gotten it. And it's like, if you ever want to wonder if the Sharks got lucky. I remember vividly that draft lottery, and I'm a lifelong Chicago Blackhawks fan, to be fair, but like, I. But I remember that lottery and the Sharks were like, Bedard. It's got to be the year, like all of this for Bedard, because the hype around Bedard was insane. And they don't get them. And the deflation around the Sharks was, like, immense. And then the next year they get Celebrini, and everyone's like, oh, celebrities. Like a really. He's going to be like a really good player, but he's like, just another cog in a great machine. So you got to assemble a bunch more talent. But, like, you get Bedard everything set. And the exact opposite has happened in so many ways. And it's a reminder that you can never have too many centers. And it's a reminder of sometimes, you know, it's kind of the old Chinese parable, we'll see, we'll see. And God, they're, They're. [01:20:23] Speaker B: They're going to be an absolute wagon. [01:20:26] Speaker A: Like, they might be a wagon this year. In fact, this year has the highest chance of them being a wagon because some of these contracts might not age well with Truba, especially with Nurse, but you need to make some of this stuff. [01:20:39] Speaker B: Stuff will get ugly. But it's also like, I think doesn't really matter because Macklin sort of, if he stays healthy, gives you like an eternal window, correct? [01:20:49] Speaker A: 18.8 million over five years. [01:20:51] Speaker B: By the way, guess how, folks, if you're not following, guess how old he's going to be at the end of this five year contract. 26. 26. [01:21:01] Speaker A: Oh, right. Yeah. It doesn't kick in. He'll be 26. Yeah. [01:21:03] Speaker B: Insane. [01:21:04] Speaker A: He literally just turned 20. He can't legally drink. Well, not in the U.S. yeah, but [01:21:13] Speaker B: by the way, did you see that Verhoff goal I sent you? [01:21:15] Speaker A: Did I ever. That was such. It was such a. They nailed it. They nailed it in this draft. Absolutely nailed it. [01:21:23] Speaker B: So rare that the entirety of the. The NHL and injured or just in any sport sees a draft situation like that or sees a team being constructed in the way they've done it, and it's just like, God damn it. Well, it's done. They did it. They. [01:21:38] Speaker A: They perfected the draft. [01:21:40] Speaker B: They. [01:21:40] Speaker A: They did so good in the draft. They literally signed. They Literally drafted a dude just for a bit. Where they drafted. [01:21:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:21:47] Speaker A: Seven one like Kazakhstan dude or what kind of. I forget what country he's from, but they're just like, wouldn't that be funny? [01:21:55] Speaker B: He's. He's from one of. One of the countries that wrestles bears for fun. It's one of those. [01:22:00] Speaker A: He's the Bear. And yeah, they're just like, yeah, we ran out of it. They got like a really good goalie. Yeah. Ryan Lynn, like. [01:22:08] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. And they. They got a great goalie prospect. Was it last year? Right. They drafted Ravens. [01:22:15] Speaker A: Ravens. [01:22:15] Speaker B: Ravensworth or Ravens? Ravens. [01:22:18] Speaker A: Roger Rosengarden. [01:22:19] Speaker B: Yeah. After trading for, you know, what's his face. Russian neck tattoo, man. [01:22:26] Speaker A: Askroff. [01:22:27] Speaker B: Askroff. [01:22:29] Speaker A: Who sometimes is ass. And Ned had a great season last year. [01:22:32] Speaker B: Bullies are weird. [01:22:33] Speaker A: Goalies are weird. You can never have too many of them. You just got to keep riding that wave. They're gonna. They're gonna be an absolute wagon. Celebrini gives you now six years of relevance after. [01:22:42] Speaker B: Yes. [01:22:43] Speaker A: Seven years of irrelevance. I am fascinated to see what Will Smith signs for. [01:22:48] Speaker B: Yeah, I. I have no idea. The NHL market's very strange with all that. [01:22:52] Speaker A: 10. 10. Is he double digits? [01:22:55] Speaker B: I would say so. I mean 15. But he doesn't have to sign this year. It'll be next year, right? Or do they. They get it done early? I don't know the rules. [01:23:05] Speaker A: This is the. Pretty sure this is the last year of his entry level contract. [01:23:11] Speaker B: 1010 sounds about right. Maybe a little more. [01:23:14] Speaker A: NHL's wild too, where it's like two years. All the money or none. Got to figure it out. [01:23:20] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:23:21] Speaker A: Who's hugging Kyle? [01:23:23] Speaker B: Sorry. [01:23:24] Speaker A: Sorry. You do it. I. I've never hugged Kyle. Nor have I. Kyle doesn't like me like that. I don't think Kyle likes me very much in general. That's okay. [01:23:34] Speaker B: No, I. I think we're in the same boat. Didn't go well for me. [01:23:39] Speaker A: What did I miss? What did I miss? Who got to hug Kyle? [01:23:42] Speaker B: I don't know, but. Sorry. [01:23:44] Speaker A: Bastard. [01:23:46] Speaker B: I do have one closing thought. I do have one closing thought, and that's. I was watching Scott Stevens highlights and I was an NFL linebackers coach. I would be playing this at the start of training camp before, like joint practices. I'd be like, listen, coach is going to say that we're going to keep this thing clean. [01:24:05] Speaker A: No, no, we're going left wing lock right now. [01:24:09] Speaker B: Before preseason game. I would be showing that. I'd be like, listen, you undrafted guy, you're you're, I'd be telling them. I'd be like, you're the ninth man on the roster. You're not making this team. Look at what Scott Stevens did. Go kill somebody. That's what I would be telling them. [01:24:26] Speaker A: Transit. He hugged Kyle and then the other writers did too. I mean, okay, we are not a [01:24:34] Speaker B: good place to end it. [01:24:36] Speaker A: That's fine. I mean, listen, I have some empathy for the man who's in a very scary car crash. [01:24:41] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, that's the weird thing about the whole thing is it's like, you're like, well, fucking, thank Christ he's okay. [01:24:46] Speaker A: Yeah. He could have died. That's terrible. Yeah. [01:24:50] Speaker B: It's no joke. [01:24:51] Speaker A: It's like, have a little bit of envy. I want to have this conspiracy theory stuff. Like, dude almost lost his eye. [01:24:57] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:24:58] Speaker A: Like, that's scary shit. Like, I got an offender bender coming back from a Niners game last year. [01:25:03] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [01:25:04] Speaker A: Before, it was nothing. It was nothing. And even then, you're like, whoa. I, I, that was the first car accident I'd ever been in. [01:25:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:25:12] Speaker A: It's not seven years old. Like, it's you. [01:25:14] Speaker B: You get a sense of like, oh, yeah, these cars are thousands of tons of metal. [01:25:20] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, yeah, the two, the two worst I've ever been. One time, I was the only other time where I'm like, oh, that could have been really, really bad. I was riding my bike in the rain in Fort Lauderdale. I didn't wear a helmet, idiot. And I, I turn a corner, my back wheel slides out. It's on a road bike. I go kind of up and over a curb. I go over the handlebars on a sidewalk. I kind of like, he swung up onto a sidewalk. It was a big right turn in Fort Lauderdale, Riverbend area. And I go over the handlebars. And at some point, about halfway down, I'm like, I need to belly flop this. It's just like my natural reaction was like, chin up. Because it's like I'm going face first into concrete at 20 something miles per hour. Because I could haul back then. And dude, I belly flopped it. I keep my chin up the whole time. And because I hydroplane so it was like a slip and slide on the [01:26:23] Speaker B: side like a penguin. [01:26:25] Speaker A: It was unbelievable. To the point where a car which was coming the other way, not that he was, he was further along, he had, like, seen. And he gets out, he like, stops his car in the middle of the road, gets out of his car and goes, dude, are you okay? And I get up. I was wearing, like, a white T shirt or something. It's now completely drenched, man boob city. And it's just like. I get up and I'm like, yeah, I guess. Holy shit. He goes, that was the coolest thing I've ever seen. That's the only. Like, it was that, which is like, okay, that was like a legit. Like, you're about to have some facial fracture shit. And just totally lucked out. And then the other time, I get rear ended. Luckily, it was a little car. My car is tall and it kind of just went under it and, like, lifted up the back a little bit. But I had felt it a little bit. So I accelerated at the right time, so it didn't get me at all. And in fact, like, the car didn't even register that it had crashed. [01:27:18] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:27:18] Speaker A: Which it's supposed to do. [01:27:21] Speaker B: Yeah. [01:27:21] Speaker A: But it did. But it was still like, whoa. [01:27:23] Speaker B: Yeah, I've been in a gnarly one and it's not fun. It's the worst. So I don't. [01:27:29] Speaker A: I don't love a lot of the journalism things that have happened here. I don't particularly. It's easy for me to say it in the abstract. I don't particularly care for hugging people. You cover on a basis. But at the same time, like, I feel. [01:27:45] Speaker B: I feel like a handshake would have sufficed anyway. [01:27:48] Speaker A: Well, he only has one working hand, so. Because of the goddamn car crash. So it is. Yeah. A little human empathy, maybe. Remove it. He's. He's a public figure. He is still a person. And he was just going to the chiropractor and his phone. [01:28:00] Speaker B: Yeah. I mean, it does sound. It does sound weirder in the abstract than in reality. Anyway. [01:28:05] Speaker A: It's like that tweet. They. They had a hug and they all learned a lot. [01:28:11] Speaker B: And we all learned a lot tonight, folks. [01:28:14] Speaker A: We learned that we should probably cut these things off in an hour. We'll talk to you later. Bye. [01:28:19] Speaker B: Bye.
