[00:00:04] Speaker A: Foreigner and Hutch. We are trying to avoid our own version of pure mid. For this edition of whatever we call this straight. I mean, listen, man, like, I wanted to say 49ers, game day. I don't get a lot of sleep these days. This is. This is a weird one because it's a Monday night game. We're doing this on Friday. We will fully cop. We have no idea if Mike Evans is playing or not. And that's kind of a big deal in general deal. [00:00:37] Speaker B: Just an Achilles injury. Nothing to worry about. Just suddenly Achilles soreness. [00:00:41] Speaker A: You know, we're fine. It's fine. He just. Let's just put that on the injury, but add it to the list of just all of the injuries that Mike Evans has. And, you know, just throwing Achilles in there. [00:00:52] Speaker B: A hip injury that's like not even on the injury injury report. He's got at least two broken ribs, I believe. [00:00:59] Speaker A: Yes. According to Fox. [00:01:02] Speaker B: And also the Tim Duncan old designation dnp. [00:01:06] Speaker A: Old shout out to that. There's. There's also Larry. Larry last night played doctor for a while and. Which is always a fun game. [00:01:18] Speaker B: It's actually a nightmare I've had Dr. Larry. I underwent surgery and Larry was the operating surgeon. [00:01:24] Speaker A: I'm surprised you woke up. It's. There is some validity to the question of, hey, man, like, should we be playing Mike Evans with an Achilles injury? Seeing as his calf injury history would be like starting high school right now. It's been so long he's had a calf injury, like, every year, forever. I know that people don't like to hear about that, but that. That's a fact. [00:01:49] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:01:50] Speaker A: So I. We don't know now all of that said. [00:01:54] Speaker B: Just briefly. [00:01:55] Speaker A: Yes. [00:01:55] Speaker B: If there's any. If there's any training staff, I trust it's the San Francisco 49ers training staff. [00:02:01] Speaker A: I literally said last night, you know, if Evan says he can play and your doctors. Well, you know, if Evan says he can play, you're just gonna have to trust him. [00:02:09] Speaker B: They've never got it wrong before. [00:02:11] Speaker A: Not. Not once. I am having this. This is now a really bad omen. But, you know, take it for what it is. My predictions have gone splendidly this year, so I do get the. There's a little bit of like a Kevin Durant 2019 Finals Energy to all of this and can't. Can't help but still be traumatized. Yeah, I saw. So there's that. If he plays, I expect him to have a very nice game. If he doesn't play, I expect this game's line to fundamentally change three, four or five points. [00:02:50] Speaker B: Like, what is the line? I would guess it's Niners by like seven. [00:02:53] Speaker A: It was seven and a half. I believe it moved up to eight and a half. I don't like that number. We don't pedal in this stuff, but if you are in general, just for frame of reference, I don't love that number. I feel like there's a trap there. [00:03:08] Speaker B: Weird game. It's. They also don't have any receivers. Like, actually not having Debo for this really sucks. [00:03:13] Speaker A: Oh, Debo would have feasted. Not just on the whole narrative aspect, just the way you watch Washington play and we'll get into is not compelling [00:03:24] Speaker B: is how I would describe it. [00:03:26] Speaker A: It's deeply NFC East. It could be more NFC East. [00:03:30] Speaker B: I guess this is the game that's on is their vibe. I guess I'm watching this team. [00:03:36] Speaker A: I haven't watched any of the broadcast. I mean, like, these are the Adam Amin games, right? I love Adam. He's a great dude and a really good broadcaster. But he's like seventh on the Fox pecking order. Like, this is the Adam Amin game. He's either in Tampa or in Washington. Pyramid quickly before we get into watching the commanders and trying to. I don't think it's actually that hard to understand the commanders. What was the. I don't want to give away the grades. You can check those out at the Hutch Report, which are coming out right after this every week. But having watched the game, having watched the game again and now having graded the game, did anything stand out to you? [00:04:16] Speaker B: Let me just say, like, win or loser. Probably the worst game I've ever seen from an offensive lineman from Connor Colby. And he did have some good stuff. But I'm legitimately probably not going to put it out in public because it's mean. And he did have some good reps. But I am gonna cut together a low light tape because it's astounding. [00:04:36] Speaker A: You're gonna do a Conor Colby highlights. [00:04:39] Speaker B: Yeah, but it's. I literally have. And by the way, this week's playlist again, by the way, I make a weekly playlist. No one has ever commented on it. No one has said they're enjoying it. It takes time. And yet I make a Spotify playlist every single week. [00:04:54] Speaker A: It sounds like a podcast for students [00:04:55] Speaker B: had no feedback, good or bad, that anyone is even aware it exists. [00:05:00] Speaker A: But my man Joe hit me up on Twitter the other day thanking me for a music recommendation. I sent him my fall playlist. [00:05:06] Speaker B: Love that. [00:05:07] Speaker A: But Just want to. Just wanted to put that salt in [00:05:08] Speaker B: the wound for you. I'm gonna do it over the da na na na na na na na. Oh, yeah, yeah. Have to. [00:05:15] Speaker A: You know what? People, People, we live in a very different time. I'm older than you are, but NFL prime time on a Sunday night after the Niners game. God, that some bitch still hits, even with Booger. Just saying. Just fighting the English language on every sentence. And Boomer just, like, going. Going deep. Not even deep into the bag. The top surface of the bag. [00:05:37] Speaker B: Remember when they put Booger in the chair? [00:05:39] Speaker A: Dude, I'm so glad that the Booger there is now a little bit of a zeitgeist, like, meme moment of the Booger Mobile. Coming back again in the Booger Mobile in the moment was one of the funniest things in football history. [00:05:52] Speaker B: You couldn't put a funnier guy in the chair, like. [00:05:55] Speaker A: No. Well, the other thing, too, is I did. There was a Niners game with the Booger Mobile. Or at some point, I encountered the Boogermobile, and the Niner sucked, if I'm recalling correctly. So I just went down and sat behind the Booger Mobile for a while, and it was brutal. It was absolutely brutal. They put a TV on the back of it, and it blocked the line of scrimmage. So that the one moment, or, you know, four or five moments in a game where the seat that you have, which you have paid handsomely for because you are, like, in row five of the lower bowl, and the ball is right in front of you. This is why you buy the seat. And there's McFarlane, who has a fear of heights on a. On a crane, just sort of hanging out, which, by the way, what I wouldn't give for a Booger Mobile, dude, [00:06:44] Speaker B: I'm looking at the photos right now where he's got, like, two screens, he's got a headset. He's basically, like, entering the Matrix. They've got him, like, plugged in, and he's just, like, hovering at midfield. He's got to be the most incredible way to watch a football game. [00:06:57] Speaker A: 10 out of 10. I honestly, no one at ESPN thought it was a good idea. Booger is like, I'm afraid of heights. Oh, I. Don't make me do it. Oh, hell, yeah, brother. The Booger Mobile is incredible. The only way it would be better is if you were the little. Little guy in Mario Kart in the Cloud with the camera. Um, that would be better. But he's in, like, the Grandma's Boy set up where you ever see the terrible. Yeah, okay. I'm glad that that one hit there. [00:07:21] Speaker B: Incredible film. Incredible film. [00:07:29] Speaker A: But yeah, he's just. [00:07:29] Speaker B: That was the one where they're, like, working at, like, a video game company. They were testing video. Yeah. One of my favorite weed. Yeah. [00:07:36] Speaker A: I wonder who that was for. It was the booger mobile. Long live the booger Mobile. Maybe the booger mobile is coming back because it sounds like Troy Aikman's. So. [00:07:45] Speaker B: Yeah, they should just. They should just put what's his name from Sam Schwarzstein. They should just have him, like, attached to the All22 camera in midair. The Wildcat, he's just like flying around. [00:07:59] Speaker A: Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Go full Mario. Enormous Drone's a former offensive lineman at Stanford. I'm not sure the. The. The cables are strong enough. [00:08:09] Speaker B: Yeah, we're never going to preview this game. [00:08:11] Speaker A: We don't want to. We did the work. [00:08:14] Speaker B: Games happening. [00:08:15] Speaker A: We don't want to. [00:08:16] Speaker B: Washington's. So it's not a compelling team. An operation. Dan Quinn's just like, I'm so fired. I'm we. [00:08:25] Speaker A: And it's like pre fire. [00:08:26] Speaker B: It's a new really stupid thing that seems impossible to happen. [00:08:31] Speaker A: Well, what was it before that? What was happening? I mean, obviously they won a game against the Seahawks. [00:08:37] Speaker B: Marcus went for it on, like fourth down instead of taking the points. And then Jane Daniels, like, his elbow exploded. [00:08:46] Speaker A: Yep. It's. [00:08:49] Speaker B: He's back, baby. [00:08:50] Speaker A: He's back. Let's. Let's talk about him. He's cool. He's a. He's a cool quarterback and he's a good quarterback. [00:08:56] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:08:57] Speaker A: I'm not particular. So I'm just going to read off my notes and you tell me what you think about this one. The line first off the left side is abysmal. His timing is slow. Like, he just. He sees it, but he doesn't get it. Everything that's going on is one read and then he's like, yes, I'm running. But then he hesitates to run. He's like, I know, I should get to the second read. And in the time that he hesitates to get to running, he could have done the second read and there's just a lot of out of pocket and broken structure stuff. And that's fine, except he's not. He's like. He's not inaccurate, but he's not particularly. Like, he can't make plays with his arms in the same way that we see Brock do every week or even a Josh Allen where he's like throwing dudes open because of perfect placement. He's not that accurate. He makes it look. He made it look so easy early because sometimes it just kind of is easy and no one knew what to do with him. But defenses have gotten so much better in the last two years, and he hasn't really evolved his game at all in the last two years, which is why David Blouse, now their offensive coordinator, that, like just being the best athlete on the field, which he was certainly in college, his Heisman Trophy winning season, and then inarguably, I would say that season where they go to the NFC championship game, I mean, he was just a dude amongst dudes doing whatever he wanted. Now that there's some tactics on how to handle them, and defenses are inherently more complicated, at least on the high end. It just looks. It looks unfinished and it could be spectacular, but I don't get the sense that it's getting there. It's early in the season for them, [00:10:40] Speaker B: all the injuries, like, in the interruptions to that for him to get in a flow. But I. I don't disagree with you. I think when I look at the O line, it's like, Sam Cosby's outstanding. [00:10:51] Speaker A: I like Sam Cosme a lot. And I like Connolly, too. [00:10:54] Speaker B: Yeah, Connolly. Connolly is a little too much lean to him, but he's. He's a good player. And he's like. Like puny. Like, he's a survivor. Like, he kind of just figures it out, even if it doesn't look clean. On the other side, Brandon Coleman, like, you put a speed rusher on him, like, height against him. And then I think, like, left guard situation's not great. Like, I think you can attack them. [00:11:15] Speaker A: That's Chris Paul, formerly of the Clippers and the University of Houston Cougars. [00:11:20] Speaker B: That's right. One other note from my grades. Mikel, not one inside snap that I locked. [00:11:28] Speaker A: So it's an interesting thought. I believe it has been broached, but not properly answered. My thought process, this is my guess is that one, you. You know that he's going to set the edge and Keon White sometimes doesn't. Right. Because he's a little chaotic. Also, all of those stunts do take some coordination. I know that that sounds ridiculous because they're finding dudes on the street and playing them on Sundays. But, like, you would like to have practiced it a couple of times. And Mikel is limited. Was limited in capacity. And so it's like, Mikel, just do this one thing. Yep, we'll build you up to that. Meanwhile, Keon White has been doing an outstanding job at that. You can even get Khalid Kareem doing it. I mean, you rotated a bunch. [00:12:09] Speaker B: Khalid Kareem's like a sneaky, good run defender and also just like, he's been good, like, legitimately, like, pretty good. [00:12:15] Speaker A: There's some real Sam Aquanu vibes. Not as big, but they have like a sneaky. [00:12:21] Speaker B: Like, they've lost all these pieces and it's like gotten. The D line's gotten better. [00:12:25] Speaker A: I just did it strange. I just did an interview. I think they Brock purdied their defensive line. [00:12:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:12:30] Speaker A: They had to get rid of all the guys that they thought were all potential and could be good. They had to clear that out to just get good players in that don't have safer. Mikel like that high of a ceiling. But collective is one they have. I think they don't just have an above average. I think they have a top 10 defensive line in football right now also. [00:12:47] Speaker B: I think it's like if you bring CJ west back for like Naquan Jones, like later in the year, like, let him get healthy to like, reprise that role where he's fresh. Yeah, I think that's a little additive. Even though he was not good to start the year. But they're also like, do everything for us. Cj, he's like, I'm not in shape. [00:13:04] Speaker A: Please help me. My knees hurt so badly. And. And literally to the point where he had to go on ir. I mean, I also have a little bit of coming off of that game against the Seahawks where the defensive line was spectacular. Legitimately incredible. Though now we're kind of seeing maybe there's something going on with Benton and Flurry that just doesn't align. [00:13:25] Speaker B: A Lucas is like, hell, he's literally just. He's literally just with the bone. The bonies from you love to kill zones. [00:13:35] Speaker A: Yeah, he's. He's. He's a stiff feller. And Charles Cross, just nominative determinism. He just gets crossed up so often go right across his face. But in that they had such a great game and then it's like, well, Nick Bosa could come back. And it's like, of course Nick Bosa's great football player. I'm not in any way saying you don't want Nick Bosa back, but it's almost like you had to create this whole team. [00:14:00] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:14:01] Speaker A: This whole situation. And they really do, like, rush and fill the gaps as a team. Like, it's a great team defensive line. And I keep saying that they've made like, the shitty version of the season. Seahawks defensive line like this is they all work in unison. And now here's Bosa, who for the last 10 years, rightfully so, has been told kind of to do the Trent Williams thing, which is like, you're over there, do whatever you want and do [00:14:23] Speaker B: and to do everything. Kind of like where he had to play all these snaps. I think you bring him back and you say like, you're a bit player for us until you're really healthy. [00:14:31] Speaker A: Yeah, I, I'm just saying. My thought is that it could be a little, like, clunky at the start. It will be great because Nick Bose is a really well rounded football player and will do whatever you need him to do. But it like, might be a little clunky at the start and kind of the same way you could say with Mikel, except Mikel fit in perfectly to the ethos that they're espousing. [00:14:48] Speaker B: I think it's okay because you just get rid of Ogbo snaps and he's been pretty terrible. [00:14:53] Speaker A: Keeps. Keeps making the roster, buddy. He, yeah, he was fine against Seattle. I kind of liked his reps. [00:14:58] Speaker B: He wasn't great. [00:14:59] Speaker A: I never said he was great. Jake, we can get into the semantics [00:15:02] Speaker B: of all this, you know. No, he, he does have a few good reps, but it's like he just looks so much smaller than everybody else. [00:15:09] Speaker A: Totally, totally. And. And they took advantage of it when him and Gifford were on the field at the same time. It's like, guess who's running to the outside. [00:15:18] Speaker B: Gifford out there. [00:15:18] Speaker A: You're like, well, and I, I don't know if we're, I don't know what we're going to see at Sam linebacker in this game because obviously Duggar was outstanding. You don't have wallow and you have Duggar, but Duggar is your will because Dre Greenlaw suspended, I presume they could have just grabbed their Nick Martin replacement off the street. [00:15:37] Speaker B: Jalen Graham. They signed Eugenia Sante to the practice squad. They'll probably bump up Jalen Graham. [00:15:42] Speaker A: Eugene Asante is literally just what thought Nick Martin could be. [00:15:47] Speaker B: Except Larry was a Larry. I remember whatever draft that was. He's like, Eugene Asante. [00:15:52] Speaker A: We're starting to see that Larry might have a type. But at least Eugene Asante is a street free agent and not pick 75 in the draft. I kind of like Eugen Asante, but [00:16:02] Speaker B: yeah, he was from Auburn, right? [00:16:06] Speaker A: Correct. Very fast, by the way. [00:16:08] Speaker B: I love that. Every time, like Kyle keeps getting asked about Nick Martin, he's like, shut up. He's like, no, he's not. [00:16:13] Speaker A: What are you. So. So on Monday, he was asked like, hey, could you bring up Nick Martin, seeing as you need linebackers? And he's like, oh, yeah, Nick is. I think it was. He asked about Nick Martin. Kyle wasn't listening. It's a. Of course, those calls are chaotic. He heard Nick and he goes, yeah, we're going to see if Nick can come in. And that. So everyone's writing it down. And then he goes, oh, wait, did you know that's Nick Bosa? No, I haven't asked about Nick Martin. Yeah, I don't care. I'm not. I'm not even interested in asking. You're literally to the point where you are going to work out linebackers that day. And he's like, yeah, we don't have any interest in seeing what Nick Martin has for us. And then when he was asked again about it on Thursday, do you even. Can you pull up the. [00:16:55] Speaker B: Literally. I'm literally. [00:16:57] Speaker A: It was unbelievable. [00:16:58] Speaker B: We asked you about linebacker Nick Martin, but you hadn't asked about him. Do we have an update on him? No, he's not getting up this week. [00:17:08] Speaker A: I'm sure it was delivered with a little bit more tact in the presser, but not that much more tact. [00:17:13] Speaker B: It's just like, not even really. Yeah. Anyway, he got latude. [00:17:18] Speaker A: He didn't even get the Brett Toth level of Latu or the Nixa Kel version. [00:17:22] Speaker B: Needed to figure out who was, like, not going to come back on ir and it seems. Seems pretty clear it's going to be him. Unless they have, like, another serious linebacker injury and it all lines up. They're desperate there, but they don't seem like in any rush. [00:17:34] Speaker A: No. Well, I mean, I'm sure Raheem, like, [00:17:37] Speaker B: the least serious injury. Right. It was like. [00:17:39] Speaker A: Correct. He had a. He had a light hamstring sprain. It was considered, like, day to day. I'm not kidding. It's been two months. Yeah. How do you. If you're Raheem Morris. And one day, hopefully Raheem will be kind enough to actually not just interrupt a question and answer the one that's being asked. You got to get in there fast with him. But. And certainly now is not the time for this candor. But one day, I would love Raheem Morris to tell the story of how he shows up to the 49ers and he's looking at the roster and he's like, what's this? Who is this little fellow that you have Is he a safety? He doesn't see. He seems too big for a safety. No, he's our. He's. He's a Will linebacker. Oh, Will, in this economy, put him at fullback. [00:18:22] Speaker B: Man. [00:18:23] Speaker A: You're not wrong Again. A lot of times we get a little Larry coded. [00:18:29] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:18:30] Speaker A: That is 100% correct. James Thompson could be a great offensive tackle, by the way. [00:18:33] Speaker B: By the way. Brady Russell, like, just. Just had like a snap where he just forgot to block Fred Warner. And Fred Warner's like, okay, if you blocked me even for a little bit, this might have been an eight yard gain. And it's like, run stuff. [00:18:46] Speaker A: It is. It is really interesting with all these teams now figuring out that a fullback can be important, and then we watch like the corpse of Alex Ingold break. They just ruin every play for the Chargers. And then, I mean, Robbie Utz is a great fullback for the Seahawks, but he's injured. So now you got Brady Russell in there who's really just like a special teams. Yeah, who's. Who was there. There was the fullback for the Niners. Linebacker. Depth linebacker. That was just like a great special teams player. [00:19:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Who converted to linebacker for him. [00:19:17] Speaker A: Yeah. It'd be great if I could pull that name, but I can't. Someone will know regardless. That's kind of what Brady Russell is. He's there for special teams, and now he's the most important guy at work amongst so many others. It's really funny watching bad fullback play because people are like, oh, that's the meta. The Niners are using a fullback. It's like, you know, doesn't use a fullback. Flipping rams. Like, maybe. Maybe we find the middle ground here of like h back. But that's neither here nor there. Can we talk about the Commander's run game? [00:19:47] Speaker B: Sure. [00:19:48] Speaker A: Again, we don't want to talk about this football team. They're so good. So, yeah, as you. As you agreed and noted, left side of their offensive line is. Is just kind of a hot mess. [00:20:00] Speaker B: And run it behind Cosmic. It's like all inside runs, right? [00:20:03] Speaker A: Correct. Bill Merritt's pretty good at inside runs. This is a team that gets like, no yards after contact. Gets nothing that's not blocked for him. [00:20:11] Speaker B: Yeah. Had a nice counter run for a touchdown against the Giants, except it was just so poorly played by the Giants. Like, astounding. Like, Tyler Newman's like, I've never done this before in my life. Yeah. [00:20:22] Speaker A: It was like, you watch it and you're like, oh, that should be a nice, like 12, 13 yard gain. And he's just still running to the [00:20:29] Speaker B: 33 yard touchdown because two guys just like forgot they were on a football field. [00:20:33] Speaker A: Yeah. They figured out what cover zero was like midweek and NFC east should be [00:20:37] Speaker B: shot into the sun. I'm sorry, let's continue with Tom Brady's never. [00:20:42] Speaker A: Tom Brady's never going to get a game close to home in Miami. [00:20:45] Speaker B: To be clear, they're not like the worst team in the NFL. [00:20:48] Speaker A: No, they just like. [00:20:49] Speaker B: Yeah, I don't. It's not interesting. [00:20:52] Speaker A: It's not interesting. I do get what it is they're doing and so we'll talk the defensive side of this even more so. But like offensively, like I like a lot of David Blau's past concepts. I think that he does. Thank you. Nick Ballore. Nevin. It was Nick. [00:21:04] Speaker B: Yes. [00:21:07] Speaker A: That is the full back of the safety. But it was special teams. Special teams. I like a lot of David Blouse pass concepts. It doesn't matter if you have cool pass concepts if you have a one read quarterback. And by the way, it might not even be fully Jaden Daniels fault. Yeah. When you're. When the left side of your offensive line is immediately like run Jaden, it kind of limits what you can do. He's also always rolling out to the right so he can only operate from the hash marks in on the right side. And so it doesn't matter if you've done this cool thing where you're like running deep picks and stuff. [00:21:38] Speaker B: There's also like he's still running around a lot, but there's like a little bit of a. To a thing of like I gotta take contact but in a very specific way. Like, you know, don't touch my broken elbow. You know, like he can't just. Which is I think probably good for his development. Not just take shot but like it does mean he can't be the full version of himself, which he can still be really good, but there's like a little bit of like he's got to protect himself a little bit more. A lot of chiga conquo at least [00:22:08] Speaker A: last game, definitely a lot of chig. And that makes sense. Right. [00:22:13] Speaker B: But I was. There's a lot. [00:22:14] Speaker A: Well and if you have him on the field, you don't have to worry about him in terms of the run game. So because their run game like can't stretch you to the outside or doesn't hasn't yet stretched to the outside and I don't think has the capability of doing it because anytime Rashad White is in the game, you're like he can run all he wants. Just don't let him catch a pass. And because every time Bill Merritt's in you're like, I guess they're running Iz like, like because they don't have any variety really in their game and every player is very specifically rolled. Chiga Kanku is just a pass catching tight end. He is effectively a flanker and he gives you nothing in the game. Now I will say John Bates, their blocking tight end is very good. [00:22:58] Speaker B: Yeah, he had some bad moments last week, but yeah, we like it. [00:23:02] Speaker A: That was a tough one. Also they're in a. They were in a weird spot to where it's like you still saw some push on the middle from the Giants and it was a rainy game, is kind of a messy division stuff. But like the one thing that the Giants have going for them is dudes on the edge. Not particularly great ones, but just like absolute like elite athletes on the edge. That was not going to work. I mean it worked but like it's unbelievable. They got points other than their safeties. The Giant safeties are really quite bad and I like it. [00:23:34] Speaker B: It's funny, they have like a pretty sweet defense. Like they have some, they have some real great talent on defense but it's a lot of like flash and it feels like it's not necessarily coordinated gels all that well. [00:23:47] Speaker A: It's clunky and I'm not sure it's ever going to get there. So my, the only thing that I could come back to in this is so long as Fred Warner's playing, I'm not overly concerned from the 49ers perspective about the run game. I do think that they'll be able to fill effectively. [00:24:02] Speaker B: I also really loved what Jaden Duggar did. I think he's at least big and strong enough to like and play it decent. [00:24:09] Speaker A: I don't think David Blaw has shown yet, nor will perhaps he ever show that he can attack that. And because there's obviously susceptibility there, he's a rookie. He hasn't seen a lot yet, especially at will. I mean this is his first week getting I presume full time will reps. Like if I'm a offensive coordinator who has my stuff in order and can build off of basics, okay, now we can attack him but like they're still building off of. They're still trying to get the basics and the quarterback roulette that they've had going on hasn't helped with that. But so here's, here's how I see more or less Every play that Jaden Daniels is actually dropping back because they'll do some, they'll do some nice play action stuff. He'll be under center. There's a lot of nice things. There's a lot of nice concepts. He'll go, he'll roll out to the right. Upon rolling out to the right, everyone's going to be like, whoa, it's Jaden Daniels. We better do something now. The Niners are going to be in zone this entire game. I do think that commanders have good wide receivers, but they don't have great wide receivers. I think Antonio Williams could have a field day in this game. I think that, that Stefan Diggs could have a really big game in this game. But like, I don't think Terry McLaurin's going off for a mega game. I think he'll have some nice catches and probably some deep ones. And I do think Traylon Burks is a really nice receiver. So I like their receivers. It doesn't matter though if they're on the wrong side of the field. So there's going to be a lot of like drags and overs that can maybe get seven or eight yards. And that's again why Antonio Williams might be a nice play in this or Diggs might be a nice play in [00:25:38] Speaker B: this, but you just run play action [00:25:40] Speaker A: and it's just, let's play action to oh my God. The left side of my offensive line has immediately given up pressure. Let me roll this way. So Raheem is going to be able to game that up. I feel very confident that they'll be able to get pressure on Daniels with the way that Raheem has gamed it up with the way this defensive line is played, with how bad the left side of the commander's offensive line is. But then also you got to remember Raheem Morris is a secondaries guy and this is going to be a tough game for the safeties because of a little bit of window dressing and the ability of Daniels to run. [00:26:10] Speaker B: But if they'll, they will take some shots, correct? Yeah. [00:26:14] Speaker A: But if you. And so the safeties are going to be kind of caught in this weird thing of like, if Daniels runs, I need to come in and help. But also they got guys going way over the top for these deep shots that I do need to respect. So it's going to be a tough game for them. And I, I don't think that it's going to go perfectly in that regard because we know these safeties. But at the same time, I think Raheem can run some games on the back end, too. And if they run some games on the back end where they put some guys in. In robber situations, you know, collapsing in because Daniels does not get full reads in the same way a Brock Purdy does when he's rolled out, which is astounding. I think that they're going to have a pick or two in this game. [00:26:49] Speaker B: I would like to see Mustafa blitz in this game. I think it's doable because they're really. They run it with Stout. Well, I don't. I haven't seen they. They blitz Jair too occasionally, but I haven't really. [00:27:02] Speaker A: How many times is that a play call? Yeah. [00:27:06] Speaker B: Fair. [00:27:07] Speaker A: I do think it's going to be a tough safety game. I do think the Niners get. I do think that the Niners get something going on the back end because they just can cut the field in half and do some fun stuff there. I would just. I would just play. I would just play to the right side. Everything. I would basically say he has to win on the left side, otherwise we're going to make his life a living hell. [00:27:32] Speaker B: I just trust like what I've seen from the Niners defense. Like I'm. I. [00:27:36] Speaker A: What plan. [00:27:37] Speaker B: I'm just like very confident generally in. In them, like assessing what the other team has and coming up with a game plan. Yeah, like they've communicated well that the corners look great. They do. [00:27:47] Speaker A: Like Lenore had a tough game last game. [00:27:50] Speaker B: I agree. [00:27:50] Speaker A: It's also Jason. [00:27:52] Speaker B: It's also Jason. Yeah. I just feel good about their defense, like from top to bottom, which is kind of crazy to say. [00:28:01] Speaker A: I think they're going to absolutely overload the A gap. I think we'll see a lot of mugging, particularly from Fred in this game. I think that there's a real susceptibility there. Forgive me, I forgot the commander center's name. They let. [00:28:14] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, it's Alec. [00:28:16] Speaker A: Ready again. Center left. My God. Allegretti, Chris Paul and Brandon Coleman. Brandon Coleman. I earnestly mean this. Having now watched us. He might be the worst starting tackle in football this year. [00:28:32] Speaker B: I disagree. [00:28:33] Speaker A: We're on Justin school levels. [00:28:36] Speaker B: Elijah Wilkinson was pretty horrible for the Cardinals. He was really bad. [00:28:41] Speaker A: He was indeed very bad. I actually found myself more viscerally disgusted by Brandon Coleman. [00:28:48] Speaker B: That's fair. [00:28:48] Speaker A: Maybe a recency. [00:28:49] Speaker B: Maybe just in the way he lost. [00:28:51] Speaker A: I mean, it's just immediate. It's just every play it's like he doesn't know the snap count. That's kind of tough. [00:28:58] Speaker B: By the way. As we switch the other side. The other thing with Colby, it's not just that he would lose. It's that he, like, would do the wrong thing a lot. Like, they're like multiple snaps where you're like, oh, he went the wrong direction. [00:29:09] Speaker A: You could see it on the tape. [00:29:11] Speaker B: Saw multiple yelling at him. You see Brendel where he's like. [00:29:15] Speaker A: It's like I talked. [00:29:18] Speaker B: You literally see him go. [00:29:21] Speaker A: I talked to Trent, had a hold [00:29:23] Speaker B: because he was looking at Kobe like, what are you. [00:29:26] Speaker A: I remember talking to Brendel after the Australia game about Colby, and he's like, hey, man. There was a lot of stuff. It was a very long conversation. And in that, he's like, you know, it'd be nice if we stuck with Colby, because I'm not thrilled with the. The musical chairs of it all, which is understandable for a center. But then, I don't know. I. I probably shouldn't relay this, but it was. He's also got to do it. Paraphrasing like, he's also got to do it, and it might be better to have a rotation if he's not doing it. I. Carver Willis is now injured with the toe. I don't know when the toe would have gotten injured, I guess in practice. [00:30:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:30:09] Speaker A: Of all the things that they need to trade for left guard, I think is on high watch this week. High watch. [00:30:15] Speaker B: Because it was really, like, probably the worst offensive line, single O line performance I've created over the last year and a half. [00:30:24] Speaker A: Yeah. How many. How many very bad plays? [00:30:27] Speaker B: I think he had nine in the past game alone. I've never had that number for anyone. [00:30:33] Speaker A: No, you usually get nine very good plays from Trent. Like he was as good. [00:30:38] Speaker B: And again, like, he did have some good plays. Right. Like, he. He helped. He helped, like, in the past game. Colby helps really well. Like, there were a couple times where, like, Trent got a little, you know, too wide, and he'd come over and help. Right. And that's good stuff, and I give him credit for that. There's also nine times where he got the doors blown off, and it's just, like, destroyed. [00:30:59] Speaker A: He. [00:31:00] Speaker B: Once. He once lost a rep to Leonard Williams where he got thrown into Jake Brendel so hard that it reoriented him where he bounced off Jake Brendel and it reoriented him, and he recovered a little bit. [00:31:12] Speaker A: Yeah, he looks. He looks like he's doing Pratt Falls. [00:31:14] Speaker B: It's. It was like. And. And I will say Seattle did a great job of saying we might actually just leave Trent Williams Alone and, like, not send somebody his way sometimes. [00:31:24] Speaker A: Did you see that little jump fake? I think that there's going to be something there. [00:31:28] Speaker B: They were. They're trying to isolate Colby and they did. And they got home by doing it. [00:31:32] Speaker A: Yeah. Good defensive coordinators will see that tape and try to replicate it. Probably can't replicate it, but they will do it. [00:31:38] Speaker B: And it's. That said, the rest of the line's good, like, legitimately. [00:31:43] Speaker A: That said, I don't think Durante Jones and Dan Quinn are going to be doing it. [00:31:46] Speaker B: Dorrance Jones. [00:31:47] Speaker A: Dorrance. [00:31:49] Speaker B: Dorrance Armstrong. [00:31:50] Speaker A: No, it's Durante Jones. They're. [00:31:51] Speaker B: Jones. Oh, their defensive coordinator. Sorry, I thought you were talking about Dorance Armstrong and who is. [00:31:56] Speaker A: Who is just fine. He. He's like a big Clee Farrell. Just. Yeah, he's the Asian Robinson of Clee Farrell's. They. I, I kind of, again, so much of this commander's team, you're like, I kind of like some of these guys. And then. Yeah, there's other guys where you're like, oh, yeah. But Frankie Louvo's a sitting ducking coverage. But then, like, Sunny Styles is a superstar. [00:32:22] Speaker B: Yeah. Like, waiting to happen. He's not there yet. [00:32:25] Speaker A: No. And Kyle's gonna have a field day with this. [00:32:27] Speaker B: He's getting helped a lot by big old Tim Settle eating up space in front of him so he can stay clean. [00:32:34] Speaker A: Duron Payne Settle. Shy. Shy Tuttle. [00:32:38] Speaker B: You got, like, Dietrich Wise. [00:32:40] Speaker A: I thought we all love our really [00:32:42] Speaker B: good in the last game. And then something there. [00:32:46] Speaker A: He's large. He's large. And they do a lot. They do tight fronts and they do five man fronts. And here's. Here's the wildest thing. Here's how I know that they are copying and not innovating. They have. Let me make sure I have this right. They blitz 50% of the time. [00:33:05] Speaker B: Yeah, they're blitzing a ton. [00:33:06] Speaker A: They bring. [00:33:07] Speaker B: They're not really getting home by doing correct. [00:33:09] Speaker A: They get sub. 40% pressure on blitzes. That means that you're not doing good stuff. You're just bringing dudes. [00:33:17] Speaker B: They also play the most too high in the league, [00:33:22] Speaker A: which they should, given how their corners have played to this point. And we'll see if Trey Amos changes that, though. You know, have to. [00:33:28] Speaker B: But it doesn't look coordinated. It's. Again, it's one of those things where we used to talk about that with the 49ers, where it's like, solid. Talk about it a lot when they were still figuring out their scheme. [00:33:37] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:33:37] Speaker B: And getting stuff to work together. The first SOL era where it's like the D line would do something and then it like created like a bust in coverage because they were like independent play calls. There's a lot of that. They also ran and they're just like running like Tampa too. They're just like getting the Tampa 2 button and you're like, that's, that's going to be death against the 49ers. [00:33:57] Speaker A: It's. It's Steve Wilkes, it's Nick Sorensen level defense. [00:34:01] Speaker B: And they ran, they ran like they had five minutes. It wasn't even a blitz. It's just a five man front and everybody came, but no one stunted. They all ran a straight line and. And I was like, I'm just astounded. It like a lot of times it doesn't seem like there is a plan. It's just like, all right, well, we're not getting home, so we need to blitz, right? And we don't trust our corner, so we need to play cover two. So we're going to run five and play cover two, but we're missing a coverage defender. So hopefully we get home. But we're not going to create a cool way to do that. [00:34:31] Speaker A: It's like it's the 49ers 2024 defense where it's like, I don't know, maybe Fred will fix it. That's what they're doing with Sonny Styles. I mean, and, and to the point where it's like, Sonny Styles is cool. It is currently very, very good. He's very good. He has a chance to be the best. He might be Fred's heir apparent. You can see it feels, it feels even further along than Fred was because Fred played Will his first year. And then that first year at Mike, there was some growing pains for a couple of weeks. Like, it is going to be spectacular. The fact that they, in the same way they did with Bobby, old ass washed up Bobby Wagner two years ago, the same way they're like, I don't know, maybe he'll fix it. It's just so antiquated. And I don't think there's a. I don't think there are. Well, outside of people in the building, maybe. Kyle, I don't think there are better equipped people to talk about how antiquated this looks than someone who has watched the 49ers defense go from whatever we've seen for 10 years to now what Raheem Morris is doing there. You have to call plays, you have to have games. You have to be doing things, you have to match fire with fire. And offenses are all bells and whistles. Attacking. [00:35:46] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:35:46] Speaker A: Responsibilities and stuff. And this team does none of that. What you see is what you get. And they're like, well, you know, five man fronts are in. Maybe we should try that. It's like, yeah, but not, not like that. Not like that. You're gonna kill the five man front as a league meta if you continue to do it this way. You can't just run a it. You could. Here's the thing, when I watch them run a five man front, I'm still looking at it and I'm going, oh man, you can get them on the outside. You can run outside zone against this five man front. What does that say about your five man front? [00:36:15] Speaker B: Yeah. And because they also have a guy who had kind of like Joshua Joseph's but who's like really small and like a lean guy, kind of like height but even less so like heights more aggressive and physical than he is. [00:36:26] Speaker A: It's just, oh, I'm always a nice player. Always a nice player. [00:36:29] Speaker B: Always a nice player. I like Kalavon Chase on. I one of my weird predictions was that they would trade for him. I don't think they need to do that. [00:36:37] Speaker A: Not with Romello. Chase on can only win in one on ones. Anytime there's a second body he's just immediately paralyzed and just go. He just crumbles into the ground. Armstrong is like definitively mid. Yeah, he might be the most commander. [00:36:51] Speaker B: It's just like a bad secondary man and like Trey Amos is coming back this week. So like I want to talk about that briefly. Like Trey Amos is back which is they. It's funny, it's funny. I like triumph and I was like looking to see like is he coming back? And you see like all the commanders fans are like please God help us because it's that dire. And I'm like I don't know if he's even like proven that much but like that's how bad the secondary has been where they desperately need him to be good. He's just been like so hurt his whole young career so far. [00:37:21] Speaker A: Rasul Douglas has been done for several years now. He's actually kind of a fun blitzer. If you were to put him in that. I don't think that that's going to show up in this game. Jeremy Reeves is fine, I guess I [00:37:37] Speaker B: don't is rough and there's a Meek Robertson and then Isaac Adams is back up and there's like Mike Sanders still who's like, supposed to be like, everyone was super excited about him as a nickel and he looks awful because. [00:37:52] Speaker A: And this is what I'm talking about. So I mentioned this last night with Lair, like, Mike Sanders still was a legitimately elite nickelback as a rookie. And then they're like, oh, well, if you're good at nickel, you'll be good on the outside. And it's like, no, no, no, no, no, no. [00:38:06] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:38:06] Speaker A: Like, Dar Lenore is not as good as an outside corner as he is at a nickel. He's a very good outside corner. He's. Well, you know, he's compensated fairly for his wares. And the fact that they had Sanders till they moved him to the outside last year, he sucked. And then this year they're like, we're going to go sign Nick Cross. Like, yeah, who's a very, very good slot corner who hasn't really played and is injured and might play this week, might not. I think he's, I think he's full go. But we'll see. I mean, why wouldn't you just go back to Sanderson? By the way, if we're talking trades, the Niners just go get call up Adam Peters and say, we'll take Sanders drill. Because Upton Stout's been kind of an issue for the Niners defensively. I love watching him, but his coverage has been rough. [00:38:52] Speaker B: Well, they don't know about that. I mean, I just, I don't think he's been that bad. [00:38:58] Speaker A: I think he's getting. I don't think it's been, okay, how about this? Let's be very clear about semantics. I don't think it's been that bad. I think he's playable. I think that as we get deeper into the season, teams that are actually competent are going to be like, oh, we're going at 20. Yeah, okay. [00:39:14] Speaker B: I mean, I think he's, I think size makes him gettable from, from bigger slot players for sure, in general. [00:39:20] Speaker A: And, and that's the other thing that we're seeing in the league, which is you're getting more and more power slots and you're using tight for tight splits. [00:39:27] Speaker B: Yeah, but I also think they, they've, they're just like, we'll play Jack Jones on the outside, move demo in if we don't have Stout. [00:39:35] Speaker A: Correct. But I would say wouldn't it be because now you're playing Jack Jones full time. Like, wouldn't it be better to just have Mike Sanders still for a seventh or a sixth round pick in 28? [00:39:46] Speaker B: It doesn't get me. Doesn't get me juiced. [00:39:48] Speaker A: I'm not arguing none of this stuff is going to get you juiced. Everyone wants to get juiced up all the time. You know what? Deal didn't get anyone juiced except for us. Keon White. [00:39:57] Speaker B: Keon White. [00:39:58] Speaker A: Same as the Keon White trade. Everyone said that it was a waste of a thing and guess what? We're like good football player. You know what? Mike Sanders still is. I legitimately think this still good football player. He's in the wrong role with the defense that doesn't know what the hell to do with them because they asked him to do too much and then they lost all faith in him. Let him be free. [00:40:16] Speaker B: We'll see. They still have Nate Hobbs theoretically coming back, so that's. That's a factor there. I just can't imagine them. [00:40:23] Speaker A: Why would you. I would rather trade for Mike Sander still than use up one of the designated returns on Nate Hobbs at this point. [00:40:31] Speaker B: I don't know about that. [00:40:32] Speaker A: Fair enough. Okay. Yeah. Their run defense is fine. I like the linebackers. Lou Luvu and Styles are really good at filling on the run and that [00:40:44] Speaker B: line has, I think styles like the way because of the front they're running, they're keeping them clean as you can, which is crucial because that was something in college where he would let guys get to him. Yeah. That was my biggest criticism is he. He let hands get put on him. Yeah. And I think he's. He's learning for sure. [00:41:00] Speaker A: But also everything is very straightforward. And I just again, I think it's funny for all the, I think legitimate shock that we had in watching the Niners just run basic zone concepts against the Seahawks, like because they don't trust anybody to do dash motion and create the complexity of the run game prior to Kyle use checks injury. Like that's fine. [00:41:25] Speaker B: Willis isn't doing it for you where he got forklifted off the ground. I know it's DeMarcus Lawrence, but you shouldn't have two feet off the ground [00:41:33] Speaker A: and like Luke Farrell like did his best, like legitimately like game ball to Luke Farrell for giving it a try and they needed it late. But that it can't be the predication of your run game. But you don't need that against this commander's defense because they're again running five men in a light box. A five man front in a light box. You just run outside pitch to the right. [00:41:51] Speaker B: Let's say they don't have Evans. Right. Let's. [00:41:54] Speaker A: Okay. [00:41:56] Speaker B: This is a defense. I, I would be Like, I feel pretty good about them. If I was going to have to face, like, go through a lot of different secondaries. The way this is structured, the talent in the secondary, the calls they have were just a lot of COVID to. They run. I think they literally run the most cover to in the league. Second most cover two in the league. [00:42:14] Speaker A: It's like true cover two. Two. Not this cover two man stuff that everyone likes to run. [00:42:19] Speaker B: No, no. [00:42:19] Speaker A: They're sitting in the flat. [00:42:23] Speaker B: I think it's like this is like a one game. I'm like, I don't trust Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing, but if there's a game Brendan Cooks might have seven catches for. [00:42:34] Speaker A: Whoever's running the. Whoever's running the over route, whoever's running drag routes are going to clean up because they'll have. I think you said Yankee concept and it's like, again, we're going back to Kyle Shanahan Day one. Install stuff that they can't run. [00:42:46] Speaker B: Go back to 2018. [00:42:47] Speaker A: Yeah, they literally can bust out the Brian Hoyer playbook for this game. Yeah. And be effective. [00:42:52] Speaker B: Old Dusty Jimmy. [00:42:55] Speaker A: Yeah. And be effective again. It's not to say that the Commanders can't win this. My big issue for the Niners, again, amongst all the issues that I usually have with the Niners, which maintain is that this is a big letdown spot. It kind of like the Dolphins game, which wasn't really a contest. Like, this is an actual competent NFL team. Not great. Like, they are clearly the 16th best NFL team. [00:43:20] Speaker B: They get too well rested. [00:43:23] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm. It's. If you watch this tape and Kyle has done an outstanding job of this throughout his career, there's no one you should trust more about this because he will find every way that the Commanders can beat you and he'll only bring those things up. And he tried to do it with the Dolphins. He's like, I got. I got very little for you guys. But to the point where Fred's like, yeah, we got to find our own motivation here. So, Kai, I think Kyle will do this right. I trust Kyle will do this right on the basis of he's always done this right. But this is such a letdown. And if you actually watch full Commanders games, you get lulled into this sense of mediocrity and you're like, oh, if you're feeling yourself a little bit, as well you should be after winning a physical game against the Seahawks. Even if you only had 110 yards of offense on your first 10 drives. Like, if you're feeling yourself a little bit. This is the definition of an any given Sunday team where it's like, yeah, they're good enough to beat teams that don't show up and beat bad teams, but they're not good enough to beat you if you play your B game. Yeah, this is in any given Monday. [00:44:23] Speaker B: So could be a, could be like a hit the over on the second half type game if they come out slow and it's just, you know, like, I don't know, it is hard to get up for this one. [00:44:36] Speaker A: And by the way, like, the other aspect of it is not that Atlanta does anything in a different capacity, but Atlanta short week, cross country. So if you just view them in that brick, you're like, yeah, let's just get through this one and then we'll give it a good go before the bye week. And again, strictly mental things, which again, nobody does a better job of keeping it very basic and data than having Evans in it. Like, do we have Evans? [00:45:03] Speaker B: It's also, it's funny because, like, they bring a lot of pressure, the commanders and I think probably just dices it up. Like, he's great at that, but you also like need guys to do the right thing. And there have been a couple examples where he's like explaining expecting a guy to be in the right spot. Right where it's like you could have an interception just because he's expecting cowing to break out and he doesn't break out the way he expects. Like that's a real possibility here. [00:45:27] Speaker A: I, I would say that the likelihood of if. No, ev. If it's Evans, I don't know if Evans has like a huge game, but [00:45:34] Speaker B: everybody played 15 snaps and I'd be very. [00:45:37] Speaker A: Everybody cooks if Evans is out there, pun intended because this might be a Brandon Cooks game. [00:45:44] Speaker B: I think he, I think he's kind of gonna get the lion's share. I just don't think. I think Brock looks at those two young guys and he's like, I hate this. [00:45:53] Speaker A: I don't, I can't unsee the end zone angle of the third down play. And then you're just going back and forth between the angles of the third down early. Third down, the one, the cowing. Third and nine, two clear out routes. Cowing comes under perfectly called everything. And Brock sees it and he goes, I guess he goes. And then he double catches it. [00:46:17] Speaker B: He goes, all right. [00:46:19] Speaker A: Yeah, I guess I have to. That's. That's how he feels about it. Now Watkins can run a clear out route like nobody's business, but that ball, they're not running anything designed to do [00:46:30] Speaker B: it in this game, man. [00:46:32] Speaker A: Kinda. Yeah. Like how about this? Watkins, you're on. Amos run. Get in some cardio today, baby. [00:46:39] Speaker B: Take a safety, take a corner. [00:46:42] Speaker A: Just run that skinny post all day. It's not going to get there for you like it did for demarcus Robinson, because Brock ain't throwing that shit over the top. But like, just run skinny posts right at that safety all day long. [00:46:54] Speaker B: Big Kale on black game. Potentially. [00:46:56] Speaker A: I think that Kalon, I think that this is a good game not particularly for like the scheme. Like, oh, we're going to give Kayla more run in this game. Because actually when you look at the. The defensive front of the commanders and what you can get against them, like, I. Yeah, you're gonna have to batten down the hatch a little bit. You're gonna have to knock, knock at the front door a couple times. But like, I think this would be a great game for Kyle to bust out the Kalon black reception machine. Ooh, Caleb Blacks in. This is a team that again, does not have any new car ideas. They're all just gonna clap. They're gonna be okay. Here we go. You know, inside run. Here comes counter. Here comes something basic between the tackles. And then Kyle's like, swing, screen, pull. [00:47:38] Speaker B: Brendel. [00:47:39] Speaker A: Yep. [00:47:39] Speaker B: You know? [00:47:40] Speaker A: Yep. I think that this would be a good game to use it because I do think it's there and I think that anyone who isn't following my tweets or the Car Seat Chronicles does not know it's there because it wasn't there in College. [00:47:50] Speaker B: So that McCaffrey. That screen, they had to. McCaffrey should have been like either a touchdown or like a game ender. And he and Brendel just both overthought it simultaneously. And. [00:48:00] Speaker A: And there's going to be a lot of George Kittle chip and release because the linebackers will have decided something against guys just crossing their faces. And then Kittles be like, I'm over here. [00:48:12] Speaker B: You think we might get a first half kiddo game? [00:48:14] Speaker A: Oh, that'd be wonderful. Just for the sake of variety. [00:48:19] Speaker B: Yeah, mix it up. I don't know. I just, I. I'm. [00:48:23] Speaker A: There's four touchdowns in this game for the Niners. [00:48:25] Speaker B: Yeah, sounds right. [00:48:26] Speaker A: How many are there for the commanders? [00:48:31] Speaker B: Three. [00:48:32] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm between two and three. [00:48:34] Speaker B: I. I think the Niners have a stupid turnover [00:48:39] Speaker A: probably because they have to go to Jacob Cowing or Jordan. [00:48:43] Speaker B: It's probably two for the Commander. [00:48:46] Speaker A: Probably two. And a couple field Goals. [00:48:49] Speaker B: I guess I'm just. I know I'm. I'm bringing the worst energy of all time. I'm just, like, disgusted by the prospect of this because, like, the Niners could. He could lose. Like, there's no world in which I'm picking him to lose. No, like, there's. There's absolutely. Like, even without Mike Evans. [00:49:05] Speaker A: Like, without Mike Evans, it's going to be tight. I think without Mike Evans, it gets down to crunch time, and you should still trust the 49ers to win that game. I just. With the way that their defense is coordinated right now, I just have a hard time not seeing. I think they're going to get caught on a couple play calls for the first time since the Miami game. If I'm being. I think those are the only two that Raheem is, like, missed. Like, he went for it and he swung and missed. And those are those long third downs where Bobby Slo is like, we're running. It's like, yeah, well, you can get away with that. [00:49:33] Speaker B: Gets out. And I, I don't even does that a few times. And the defense is like, yeah, I. [00:49:39] Speaker A: Not even that. I do think that Blau has some good stuff. And if, like, they just get some protection a little bit, Daniels can, because Burks is going deep. And then here comes Diggs on a big over. And then, you know, McLaurin's hitting the. The A post and it's like, I can see a big 40 yarder that then, hey, here's a touchdown two plays later to Chiga Konkwu on a. On a, you know, a little corner. Yeah, I can see that. I can see it happen. Like, I think they're going to get caught a couple times, but I don't think they're going to get consistently caught. I don't think. I think that they're going to be able to put more pressure on Washington than Washington's going to be able to put on the defense. And again, I have no idea what universe we're living in. And maybe it's. I don't think it's smoke and mirrors. Nothing about what I watch looks like smoke and mirrors, but they have played. And let's just run through the quarterbacks real quick. And this is the Niners. They have played brain dead Matt Stafford. That's not a general statement on Matt Stafford. It's that merely his body was there, but his mind was not. Malik Willis and the worst roster in football, Jacoby Brissette, who kind of diced him up there a little bit at the end, but you give it. That's what Jacoby Brissette does. He's an all time fantasy monster so [00:50:47] Speaker B: long as it takes what's there. And yeah, in the garbage minutes. [00:50:50] Speaker A: Bo Nix and Sam Darnold. Does anyone have any current opinions about Bo Nix or Sam Darnold that I should be privy to? So Jaden Daniels is, I would argue, a class above anyone that they've played so far, at least in the version that showed up in that game. And again, I'm not a big. I don't think that he's particularly great, but he does have immense potential. And this has. How about. How about I phrase it this way? This has some Kyler Murray energy to it. [00:51:19] Speaker B: It has like the, the. The end collapses. No one replaces. He's not like tracking the play well enough and you get the thing and you just get Daniel scrambling and then something breaks down behind it. [00:51:34] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:51:34] Speaker B: And the Commanders make it weird and then the 49ers offense doesn't look right without Evans. [00:51:40] Speaker A: Yeah, I. I think it would be close. I think that both teams have three touchdowns in them if Evans isn't there and it's four if Evans is there, even in a limited capacity. Anything else you'd like to add, Jake? [00:51:51] Speaker B: Let's make a score prediction and hit some questions. [00:51:54] Speaker A: Okay. Also, I'd like to note that Tressway is fantastic as a punter. This is going to be a hell of a punter game and you should get amp for that score prediction. You can go first. [00:52:05] Speaker B: Niners 30, Commanders 26. I feel bad about all, all of this. Yeah. [00:52:15] Speaker A: I have a 33, 25niners. [00:52:17] Speaker B: Okay, sure, sure. [00:52:20] Speaker A: This whole game, if it goes correctly, should be forgotten in short order, by the way. [00:52:27] Speaker B: It might be like 33 to like 16 or something weird. And then it's like in the last five minutes the Commanders do something. [00:52:37] Speaker A: I've never. I've never seen that game happen before. I have no idea what you're talking about. Let's do some questions. [00:52:42] Speaker B: Questions. Should the Niners extend Renardo Rivas? Come on. Renardo Rivas. Green mid season. I don't think they can. [00:52:52] Speaker A: I think he was only a second year, so. [00:52:55] Speaker B: I mean, they have to. No, it's just. Oh, it is his second year. Is it? [00:52:59] Speaker A: He's a rookie last year. Was he not? [00:53:00] Speaker B: Was he. I don't know what year it is. [00:53:04] Speaker A: It's his second year. Please correct me. [00:53:08] Speaker B: No, no, no. It's his third year. Right. [00:53:10] Speaker A: It's his third year. [00:53:11] Speaker B: I think so. [00:53:12] Speaker A: Jesus Christ. [00:53:12] Speaker B: What year Was Bernardo third year because it was the same year as Pierce. All. That's what I thought. [00:53:16] Speaker A: Okay, thank you. [00:53:18] Speaker B: I think he's extension eligible after the year. I believe after the year [00:53:24] Speaker A: and then beyond that. The Niners should not be extending anyone right now under any circumstances. Just this is not. You need to keep all your powder dry because whether it's to go and you know, because I do think that internally there is a sense from the older players like, we better do this now. [00:53:45] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:53:45] Speaker A: Like we all are in agreement that now is the time to do this. And then of course, when you don't have, you know, second a second wave of stars like the Niners don't because Pierce hall hasn't panned out. And I guess Green and Puny stand above everybody else, like extend Pearsall in [00:54:03] Speaker B: the cheapest deal of all time and just. [00:54:05] Speaker A: I don't think he'd take it. He wouldn't take it. No. [00:54:07] Speaker B: Nor should he. They should. It's the most obvious, like play it [00:54:11] Speaker A: out and then you have to just play it out. You have to keep your powder dry. But not even to go get the big name, you might need like two or three lesser. You might need to make two or three Keon White trades and you better keep your money dry there because that's. [00:54:23] Speaker B: Jason Halton might end up being like a true star. [00:54:25] Speaker A: He could. There's a lot. There's a lot of very positive possibilities that are happening. I think Romello Height looked incredible against Seattle and I think he's about to have a career day club on his hand. What happens when that man gets another five digits? I don't know. [00:54:38] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. He's got some juice. [00:54:40] Speaker A: Yeah. Honestly, if he comes out and he doesn't look as good without a club, put that club back on. Maybe that's his superpower. [00:54:49] Speaker B: Less hands, bad in the run game because you can't grab anything. But then you can kind of like if you use like a spin move to pin somebody. [00:54:55] Speaker A: Like they can't, you know, like pressure point. [00:54:57] Speaker B: Yeah, exactly. [00:55:00] Speaker A: Yeah. I don't think they should do anything. That said, in season, contract extensions have always been very team friendly for the Niners. [00:55:08] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:55:08] Speaker A: Agree. [00:55:09] Speaker B: Scene debate on if Purdy Miss reads last week or if they only won because of the off schedule stuff he did. I feel like those are two different things. Which apples and oranges tribute the win more to Purdy turned some things down. He turned down like a Watkins throw, but there's not a lot there for him to work with. And sometimes when there was stuff There the pressure got home pretty quick. [00:55:33] Speaker A: Yes. [00:55:35] Speaker B: I think he mostly did well off schedule. I would attribute the win to their defense and Mike Evans and Purdy finding my Kevinson clutch moments. [00:55:44] Speaker A: My stance after the game and it maintained through tape was that Purdy did not want to throw it to certain guys and a lot of times when those guys would get open, he would have pressure directly from Connor Colby, typically directly in his face. And so now he's in a high stress scenario which means that there's a 0% chance that anyone he doesn't inherently trust is getting the ball. Which is why the only way they were able to move the ball in the air was Purdy just going, I'm only going to Evans for sure. We're cutting out all the riff raff and we're not doing any of these reads anymore. It's going to Mike and unless we're calling a play that says it's we're going one read for the rest of the go. That will have to change in this game. Not because the commanders defense is any different but because again, you can't ride Evans that same way. [00:56:30] Speaker B: I don't think Will Raheem in this defense have better success against a running QB than other Niners DCs have had in the past. I would say yes. Yeah, just. I just think they're better coordinated generally speaking, but they'll get got sometimes. [00:56:45] Speaker A: I think that having more. [00:56:47] Speaker B: But that was like a real like fundamental, like almost existential issue they face where they're like, oh, the quarterback can run. [00:56:53] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:56:54] Speaker B: Yeah. Guys, this. What. This is not new. [00:56:57] Speaker A: They can, they can play, man. They can. I know that it goes as counterintuitive, but the way that defenses are working now, you almost kind of prefer to be in man. At least, you know, a little bit more complex man. You want to be in man match stuff against running quarterbacks because you have the ability to abandon and go get them on the outside. Now that did not happen on Monday Night Football with the Rams and the. The Bills where the Bills have no receiver in man. [00:57:23] Speaker B: It's a real problem because guys just turned around. [00:57:26] Speaker A: But not in man match. Not in cover six stuff. Not in cover eight. Not in cover nine. On cover seven. Which I don't even think exists. Cover seven, but not. Not in any when. Because those are. Those are. I mean I'm sure it exists. They probably have 14 covers at this point. Yeah, it's like the two chains tweet. Surely he can't have any work stump. So. Because in man match stuff you're not. You're not turning your back and carrying. [00:57:51] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that's. Oh, that's the Saban. That's cover seven. [00:57:55] Speaker A: That's just rip, Liz. [00:57:56] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah. Okay. Okay. I just. Yeah. [00:57:59] Speaker A: Which we saw. There you go. So we saw Cover 7. If you ever want to think about COVID 7, just think about the Pritchett interception against Purdy last week. That's that. My point is merely that you're keeping. You're in zone, but you're also matching patterns. And in that you have the ability to keep an eye on the quarterback and recognize the play as it is. That's my only thing. That's the way defenses work. And that's not. When Bob Sal is playing landmark zone. That's fine so long as your landmark is. [00:58:28] Speaker B: Did you hear him try and, like, explain how complicated it is to learn? He's like, no, we man's actually like really simple. We do more complex stuff because we just do zone and, and it's really smart, actually. I was like. And people like eating it up. I was like, this is a bad look. [00:58:47] Speaker A: He's getting fired. He's getting fired at the end of the year. [00:58:52] Speaker B: We'll see. [00:58:53] Speaker A: Telling you, I think he's one and done. [00:58:55] Speaker B: Brandon Iuk sideshow is the most appealing part of this game. [00:58:58] Speaker A: Said anyone heard from our favorite insane. [00:59:00] Speaker B: It's, I mean, not insane. [00:59:02] Speaker A: Maybe we shouldn't use that term. [00:59:04] Speaker B: But wild. He's just like, yeah, I'm done. That's. [00:59:07] Speaker A: I haven't checked in on Brandon Iuk [00:59:09] Speaker B: in a while, nor will I. [00:59:11] Speaker A: Just. It's over. [00:59:12] Speaker B: What if he shows up to the game? [00:59:14] Speaker A: I believe there's a warrant for his arrest in Santa Clara County. [00:59:18] Speaker B: Oh, right. [00:59:19] Speaker A: Correctly. When. If what I understand I have to be more careful about this. I've been giving way too much stuff. If what I understand is in fact true. And I feel very confident that it is, but not enough to like, put it in the newspaper. [00:59:41] Speaker B: We're. [00:59:42] Speaker A: I would just, I would tread lightly when it comes to making Brandon AU jokes this week because at some point the truth is going to come out. And if it's the truth I think it is, you're not going to feel like a total asshole. It's not like that, but it's not great. And it will be a cautionary tale of sorts. Sorry for being cryptic, but I, I, I'm not gonna say it out loud on a stream. [01:00:05] Speaker B: All right, let's do, let's do a couple more before we get out of here. If, if it's all zone. Maybe Watkins gets a target this week. He better. He better. [01:00:14] Speaker A: Yeah, I, I legitimately think that you can get away with cowing and Watkins and Brandon Cooks in this game so long as there is the possibility of someone winning in man to man with just the presence of Mike Evans. And if you don't, I think things could get a little hairy a little fast. But I don't think that it would be like Seattle level class. [01:00:35] Speaker B: Go big kiddle game. Yes. [01:00:38] Speaker A: Which is tough with Styles. [01:00:39] Speaker B: Do you think Lenore could be considered a cut or trade candidate at the end of the season? I think they should re allocate his money to Green and two things, like, [01:00:47] Speaker A: I think we're all losing our minds [01:00:48] Speaker B: here a little bit. It's not really how you like reallocate it because like again, it takes a while for contracts to actually matter. Like the first two years, like don't really count, right? [01:00:57] Speaker A: Yeah. [01:00:58] Speaker B: But he is due 24ish million next year, which is to say he's got a 16 million base salary. Only 4 million of that becomes like guaranteed. It's basically like none of it's like not much of that's guaranteed. [01:01:14] Speaker A: He has no, he has no guaranteed money in the remainder of his contract. [01:01:17] Speaker B: Yeah, he's got option bonus and signing bonus stuff that's already dead. But like he doesn't get like any of that big salary that's like 16 million. So that's either going to be restructured. [01:01:28] Speaker A: Right. [01:01:29] Speaker B: Or something. [01:01:31] Speaker A: It's almost $12 million of restructure savings at the end of this year when [01:01:35] Speaker B: they extended him, they got him for 5 million on the cap, 6 million on the cap, 9 million on the cap. They are not doing 24 million. [01:01:42] Speaker A: No, not, not for him. Not with the way that he's played. But they'll restructure him because he's still only 27 years old, as currently constructed. And you restructure the back end and you add an extra void year, you probably take that 29 and you turn it into something. You give them a little bit of guaranteed money up front. [01:01:58] Speaker B: They'll probably keep him around based on the way it's going anyway. Mikel Sack, maybe he did have one rep that, that caused that Keon White sack where he collapsed. Charles Cross and then White was there to clean it up. [01:02:11] Speaker A: How about a pick to click? Do you got a. Do you have a guy pick to click? [01:02:14] Speaker B: Pick to click. [01:02:16] Speaker A: Are you familiar with the great Chicago White Sox tradition of the pick to click? It's a pre game. Like this is going to Be the player of the game. Oh, pick the click. Go, Socks. I'm sad. [01:02:27] Speaker B: I'm. I hate the Guardians, man. They do nothing for me. Come on, Race. [01:02:33] Speaker A: I can't wake up. I can't. I know, I know, I know. I'm gonna strike out in solidarity. [01:02:39] Speaker B: You brought it up. [01:02:40] Speaker A: I. I know. It just, it's a really, you know, pick to click. Who should pick to click? [01:02:45] Speaker B: Can I go? Dom Puni, like, destroying Siobhan Kinlaw. Like, Javon Kinlaw has like one great rep, gets like, too excited early and then puny, like, dominates him the rest of the game. Can I say that? [01:02:56] Speaker A: I like it. I like it a lot. I'm going to go with Brandon Cooks on just a tremendous series of drag routes and short, intermediate stuff. And then my backup is Kalon Black, pass catcher. [01:03:12] Speaker B: I almost said Kalon Black. Last one, really important statement. Joe's Joseph. Jake, you seem like an older Volvo or Tacoma type guy. I drive the Most beat up Mazda 3. Yeah. The world has ever known. I. I am going to be a Subaru man. Not the new Subarus, whatever that is. What are they doing? What's going on? Anyway, I think that's, I think that's good. Anything, Anything you want to add, Dieter, [01:03:41] Speaker A: you're very, you're very deeply an older Volvo or Tacoma type guy. I speak as someone who could be that man. If I fit. [01:03:47] Speaker B: Volvo's just a little too sad for me. [01:03:51] Speaker A: I had a. First car I ever had was the hand me down Volvo S70 station wagon with turbo. [01:03:57] Speaker B: I would drive a. I would drive an older Volvo if it had like the really, like the wood paneling that. [01:04:03] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, no, that's first off. I don't think the Volvo's ever had wood paneling. [01:04:08] Speaker B: Which one am I thinking of? [01:04:10] Speaker A: You're thinking of like a, A Buick. That was a very curvy car. This is a very boxy car, the S70 Turbo. I mean, I, I drive EVS now. I could be wrong. [01:04:22] Speaker B: Maybe it was a Chrysler. [01:04:25] Speaker A: Yeah, it was the American made. Her next door neighbor had one where it was a long white station wagon with the wood paneling on the sides. And I'm trying, I want to say roadster, but it's not right. Yeah, that was a. That was a beast of a car. Those cars had crazy suspensions back in the day. It was like. It was like you were driving on pancakes. It was unbelievable. Bring back good. Bring back soft suspension. The Roadmaster. Thank you. Which it was that legitimately. That was a car that had zero sex appeal and 100% functionality, which is what I'm into. Yeah, I've driven a bunch of cars in my day. I do EVs now. I much prefer EVs to anything else. But in the pickup of an EV is in Crane. The torque is insane. The only thing that's ever made me feel that way, and it's probably some anchoring, was that Volvo station wagon with the turbo engine. So my recommendation is, first off, don't buy gas cars. And second, if you do have to buy a gas car, make sure that it's turbo, because I can't. I can't live without that baby. No, but enough about Malik Mustafa. [01:05:41] Speaker B: All right? I think we've sufficiently not previewed this game and [01:05:48] Speaker A: yeah, I'm gonna. I'm gonna give us a C for effort. This was also a very mid podcast, very commanders coded. I feel like we've really tapped into the spirit of the team that we've broken down. [01:05:58] Speaker B: I'm just some. Some games I think we got high on. The Seahawks game is so exciting. So many scheme things to talk about and then this. You're like, oh, no, you just. You're just like looking at Dan Quinn and you're like. Like, I don't. I don't like it. [01:06:16] Speaker A: No, this is. This is. This is a non playable character of a team. It's just it. They're there, they're on your schedule, and if you fuck up, they'll get you [01:06:26] Speaker B: could be the most forgettable game of the season. [01:06:28] Speaker A: That's my prediction. If it goes right, you will not remember that they played the Commanders at all. I cannot believe this is Monday Night Football. I hope Aikman and Bucket into a fistfight. [01:06:36] Speaker B: That would be sick. You know what they should do? They should put him in the booger mobile, bring him out to the middle of the field, and then do like an American Gladiator type situation. Knock one off. You think Aikman would win, but Buck's got some sneaky bite to him. [01:06:53] Speaker A: I've been drinking with Joe Buck. Let me tell you, he's feisty. He's a feisty feller. And with that, we'll talk to you on Monday. [01:06:59] Speaker B: See you folks.
