[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:07] Speaker B: That's a wild one. Thanks for hanging out late with us. We have other jobs. Jake's gonna join us in just a moment to talk about 49ers and commanders. 23 17. A tale of two halves if there ever was one. Before we get Jake in here, let's just go over what, what I think is the story of this game. Game. And there will be a lot of things that we'll certainly touch on as we. As we get through this stream. But the defensive line was immense, immense in this game. And it sealed this game. It sealed this game several times, in fact. But, you know, penalties and a lot of weirdness. Can the referees maybe just throw a flag with conviction as opposed to constantly having to come together to talk about it? Just an idea. I mean, I'm sure that they're just waiting for New York to chime in on things, but I found the whole game today to be rather unbecoming for many parties, many parties. And the 49ers are part of that. But this was, this was a wildly impressive defensive performance from the 49ers on the defensive front late. And I do think that that needs to stand out. We talk about winners first, we talk about the good things first. Because heaven knows Jake and I have plenty of bad things to talk about, plenty of things to break down. And I'm sure the tape will be more damning than it looked live at times. But what OSA Digizua and Romello Height and he just fant. Let's just go through them again. White Height, O Digizua, Mikel Williams. Outstanding. Outstanding. And yes, Sebastian Valdez, who we have talked about Sebastian Valdez probably every episode since he got called up to the 49ers before week three when they had to call him up as an emergency. He has gone from a guy that they called up because literally they wouldn't be able to get anybody else in. He has now become indispensable to this team and against a, a Washington team that did a lot of. Of really interesting stuff up front. I'm not sure if it was good, but it was interesting up front with a lot of gap stuff. The feel that Sebastian Valdez had for kind of sifting through the gap stuff, feeling it out was elite, elite level stuff. And I'm sure it will show up on the tape tomorrow. And then, oh yeah, Malik Mustafa. No further analysis needed. That dude. That dude's a special football player. I don't know how long he'll be special for given the way that he plays football. But goodness Gracious. Was he outstanding in this contest? There were so many really, really cool things that the 49ers defense did. Let's go with the. The stat that stood out to me most amongst all of them. That's a number four. And if you'll see here, maybe you can't see here, it doesn't particularly matter. Oh, we're getting a little blurry. It's blurred out. Okay. Four is the number of quarterback hits that Romello Height had in this game. It could have been 10. The way that I was watching it. Quarterback hits are obviously a little bit, a little bit too scrutinized when it comes to did he get him? Did he not? Doesn't matter. He was, he was everywhere. Now let's also be clear about how he was getting. It wasn't a lot of one on ones. Him against Coleman, him against Conner Lee, who had a very up and down game. This was stunts and this was the perfect encapsulation of what Raheem Morris's defensive scheme and Chris Kaserek's adaptations to it can do for this 49ers defense. When the 49ers put put themselves in a position to stunt and to do fun things up front and to play games, they did it at an elite level in this contest. An elite level in this contest. And the personnel that they have is so perfectly suited to do this because without Nick Bosa, you're going to have to get a little funkier. And this was my main complaint with the 49ers defense last year. So they get to week three, Nick Bosa tears his ACL and Robert Salas starts thinking to himself, I don't know. I don't know. Maybe, maybe we pull it back a little bit. Maybe we go bound to brass tacks. And then Mikel injures himself in week nine, he's out for the season. And Robert Sala just goes, you know what? We're not doing anything cool anymore. The party's over. All of these things that we were tinkering with, that's done. Now I have to play the plausible deniability game. I got job interviews to do. And the 49ers defense regressed and regressed and regressed because what they put out on film never adapted and never changed. And. And as the cheese got more binding as the season went on, the 49ers defense got more and more easily picked apart. And that will not happen under Raheem Morris. It won't happen. And we've already seen the Chiefs start to get binding here. Again, they called up Sebastian Valdez in week three because they ran out of defensive tackles. The week before that they ran out of defensive ends. And how many times has this team called up Ogbo cut. Ogbo called him up. Oh, now he's on the active roster again. I mean, this guy's getting the snip snap, snip snap. Khalid Kareem has been picked up cut how many times? Good player. By the way, Khalid Kareem had another great game today by his standards and frankly anybody's standards. They are doing stuff now. I do gotta say this was not a good secondaries game, save for one man in the secondary. And we will get to all of that, especially once Jake gets in here, which should happen any minute now. But what they were able to do up front with those defense, linebackers count too. Duggar had 11 tackles in the game. I thought it was an up and down game, but it was still very, very solid, especially considering the circumstances. I think that Jalen Graham played fairly well from where I was able to watch it from Luke Gifford going out with a groin strain. Maybe not the worst thing in the world, I don't know. But at a certain point someone else has to step up. Not a high bar to get over, but you got to get over the bar. Warner really locked in in the second half. He got caught once or twice with maybe over pursuing Daniels in the past game. But you let that stuff go because he made plays. And what stands out again is without Dre Greenlaw, without Nick Bosa, without much help from the referees or their cornerbacks in this game because Lenore got burned a couple times, Green was downright awful in this contest. All the talk about Renardo Green, which was well deserved. Oh boy, we need a rain check on some of that stuff. That was, that was a rough game from Renardo Green, first from the jump. And yet the defensive line just kept winning and it won them that game because the defensive backfield wanted to give the game away. And the offense could not move the ball in the second half after a sterling, stupendous first half. They got away with one tonight. They got away with one because their defensive line, the unit that has been most decimated, the unit that has played 17 players this year, they came into camp with nine. They have had 17 people out on the practice field who could theoretically play in a game. That unit won the game. And yes, pardon me, Washington's offensive line, not great, not great. But the fact that the defensive line one was just unbelievable. Hi, Jake, how are you doing? [00:07:55] Speaker A: I'M doing great. I'm doing phenomenal. [00:07:58] Speaker B: Okay. I'm talking about the defensive line. I've probably said all that needs to be said about the defensive line. That's basically all I've talked about. What else should we talk about? [00:08:10] Speaker A: I was going to start there. It's hard not to. To start there because, oh, my God. I mean, these guys are humming also, like, Mikel just, like, collapsed. Like, Michael's not even doing anything. He's just bowling straight. Still clearly not like 100% and just having an immediate impact. Romello Height just still with the club is, like, getting home consistently and consistently. Halton suddenly looks like the best defensive tackle they've ever. [00:08:40] Speaker B: I hadn't even mentioned Halton yet. [00:08:42] Speaker A: Holton just aside from like, DeForest Buckner [00:08:45] Speaker B: and like, Armstead, so consistently good. I mean, remember the comp that we gave for him? High end Malik Collins with the Browns. Low end Malik Collins with the 49ers. It is Malik Collins with the Browns, baby. I'm just back here in this backfield no matter what you want to do. [00:08:58] Speaker A: He's. He's phenomenal. Just the, like, low weight distribution and the way he disrupts things. And then Sebastian Valdez, just like pure force menace. Just absolute strength. Not a real game plan, doesn't matter. But just the way he's able to, like, get up field and jet up field and like, hold on against double team. I mean, really legitimately, like, good, good player. It's a sick group that they have. And to be like, you can wait and bring back Bosa whenever he's fully healthy is pretty incredible because that's what it feels like. [00:09:36] Speaker B: I. I have a little bit of concern on, like, you might not, like, maybe Nick Bosa. Take all the time you need. Like, there might be like a Ewing theory or something to Bosa right now. Like, again, it would be just totally fine and great. But, like, do you use Nick Bosa as bit player? Because, like, I don't want to mess any of this up. Right, right. [00:09:54] Speaker A: You use him like you used D. Ford, where he's like just you solely bringing him in on third downs just to be like, oh, my God. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I think obviously the D line was impactful. What a weird, strange, strange game. The way it ended and how, like, height ended it multiple times. I think the next most obvious place to start is like, Malik Mustafa just being like a human weapon that we just like. It doesn't matter what the secondary is doing. He's just so violent. And Fred, what's Awesome is saw somebody like, break it down, which I noticed, but I didn't really like, dig into. There was like a moment. There's a couple things Fred did last game, but like, there's one where he communicated pre snap to Mustafa and he's like, be there. Mustafa just went downhill and that's the play. He like murdered Shahid. Yeah, he. Fred is just like, I have like a weapon. He's like, go there. The play is going to go that way. I need you to do something. And he just, I mean, the level of physicality he plays with. Also loved the part of the game where Fred like obviously actually did go helmet to helmet, like very obviously on replay, the clear penalty. And he just went up to the head ref and was like, come on, man. The ref's like, I'm cool, I'm cool. And they picked up like a couple flags that shouldn't have been picked up. They wanted to like be the cool ref. [00:11:17] Speaker B: There was a bat. It was a. This is the first game. Like, not every game is going to be officiated perfectly. I get that. Like, I'm also not going to be hardcore. Like, oh, they screwed him out of it. Like, no, man, it goes both ways. Whatever. The thing that annoyed me about the refereeing in this game was that they just spent so much time talking to each other and it's like, are you just waiting for New York to get in your headset and tell you what actually happened? I mean, they literally conferred after every flag and it's like, dude, he lined up offsides. You don't need to talk about this. [00:11:48] Speaker A: Right? It was also like when the, the one they called on Mikel where it was like Malik Mustaf was like a yard over line. It's like, we, I, I don't know. And, and Troy Aikman was just confused all game. I know you were there, but like, Troy was like, what's going on here? And I, I didn't blame him. There's some. Also Gene Daniels sucks right now, man. Not sucks is harsh. Let's, let's. Let me roll it back. He missed a lot that was out there. There was a lot of which. There was that one play where the most predictable thing that you talked about all week, which is that he rolls right. He only rolls right. And it was like the most predictable way it could have gone. But like, there's a lot where he just like didn't look. And I think Aikman was actually pointing that out. Like it intermediate part of the field. He was just ignoring frequently and they were just. And it was like, working. So it's like, okay. But it was just like, little dink, little dink, little dink. So much chicka conquo which again, I like chicka Congo. But, my God, [00:12:54] Speaker B: it was. I mean, this is a game where the referees were conferring about everything. Dan Quinn didn't know it was fourth down, nor did his quarterback, then lied about it. [00:13:06] Speaker A: How does Daniel's not like, yeah, he's like, no, I knew it was fourth down. Someone just asked on the headset. And I was telling him that he, no, there's no extra play. Which if that's the explanation, the idea that, like, you didn't know how penalties worked is also concerning that your staff doesn't understand that. But, like, Jane Daniels, like, I'll just throw it away. It's free play. It's like, what are you doing? [00:13:27] Speaker B: He Derek Card. There's also the scene where they cut to the sidelines and Quinn goes fourth down. Oh, fuck. So, you know, he totally knew. I don't need to be John Boy to break that one down. It was clearly fourth down. Oh, fuck. [00:13:45] Speaker A: Yeah, not great. Not great, Jim. [00:13:48] Speaker B: I guess he saved his job with that second half. And we do need to actually break down some of the things that didn't go right for the 49ers, because in the first half, I mean, this thing was humming, but it was humming because Mike Evans was present. And Mike Evans mere presence just makes everything go. [00:14:04] Speaker A: They got to shut him down through the buy at minimum. [00:14:08] Speaker B: I don't think it's their choice. I'm pretty sure his Achilles has said that. [00:14:12] Speaker A: Right. But it's like, also, like, the most predictable this way. This could have gone where he's like, makes a couple plays and then his body's like, I can't. I can't do it. I. I can't. But also in a way where we knew he didn't tear his Achilles. It was just like, he is an old man Achilles. Kind of like the weirdest way possible, where it's like, people are only tearing their Achilles. And Mike Evans is like, the only guy who's like, no, I've had this for a while. I just have a really sore, tight Achilles. [00:14:40] Speaker B: Apparently Aikman said that he's been dealing with it all year, which, of course he has. He's been dealing with everything all year. The man had, like, four calf strains in training camp alone. Like, I'm stunned that his Achilles ain't feeling so hot. Yeah, I guess it's good that he's got the old man body to where everything's a little bit looser. And so it didn't, you know, it's not so tightly wound that it just snapped. But without him, Brock Purdy's like, I'm not throwing it to these scrubs. Like, what are you talking about, Jacob Cowing's in. I'm not throwing it to him. Do you see what he did on the punt return? [00:15:14] Speaker A: They. Kyle sounded like he was gonna lose it post game when he was talking about that. He's like, yeah, that was a insane. He's like, that's an insane choice. It's terrible. He's like, also, Eddie, make your extra points, dude. [00:15:28] Speaker B: When they. When they lined up for that field goal in fourth quarter or third quarter, and I'm like, I'm pretty sure that's the exact distance of an extra point. This is not good. This is. This is a bad. [00:15:42] Speaker A: I. I would like to talk to Brant Boyer. What's like earnestly, like, because I have noticed that it's not just with him. Like, other kickers have issues specific to extra points. And kicking is such like a mental golf swing type thing. I wonder if you can just get in a habit where you're like, ah, man, like the. The whole rhythm is off because you're not taking it as seriously. You don't get as amped or something. I don't know. Like, I would like an actual explanation as to why it's such an issue. [00:16:10] Speaker B: Can I proffer an idea, which is that, like, the biggest thing that I used to play a lot of golf and then I had kids and. [00:16:19] Speaker A: Right. [00:16:20] Speaker B: The biggest thing of like, how to improve your score is to like really know your distances on wedges and then have like a full swing and a half swing and just try to play it to your wedge. So just get yourself set up to wedge shots that you like. And my thought is that these kickers that are now kind of being pushed in a way to like, everyone needs to make 50 yard field goals now. Like, if you don't make 50 yard field goal, you suck. They've kind of Victor Hovland their entire game to where now they like don't have that good wedge game anymore. And that's just like a weird intermediate distance somehow that the NFL has created to where if you kick 50 yard field goals. Okay, yeah, but like, it could also just fade off to the right because you're. [00:17:03] Speaker A: I'll be honest. When I play baseball, this is how I felt about second base. Like, I could never do the second base. Throw, because it's not a full throw. It's almost never a full throw from second base. It's just like a forearm thing. And it's. You either. Yeah, you'd either have to go sidearm or just forearm. And I was like, always a strange thing. [00:17:23] Speaker B: It's a tough position. I think Willie Adamus is going to look good there, though. It's the offense. The offense is inability to pass the ball outside of a really good over route to Kittle. And there was also a lot more blitzing so that they didn't have a lot of time to develop stuff. Yeah, you know, not a great game for Colby. Again, Trent was not. [00:17:46] Speaker A: People really are coming out to defend Conor Colby because I was like. Which I. I think people understandably thought I was like, just saying, go trade for Quinn Nelson. Which I was like, no, these are the two obvious people are going to mention. Here's how much it would cost for Quentin Nelson. Here's how much it would cost for DeForest Buckner. I'm not saying they should because he's on the wrong side of 30. I'd have to watch his tape. I assume it's going to be a massive upgrade either way. We can have a discussion later in the week about that. But then I was like, yeah, Colby got destroyed and he's been regressing since the start of the year, where I thought, he's pretty good. He's regressed since the start of the year. And people went, how dare you? How dare you say this about a guy who's objectively the worst part about the offensive line. [00:18:29] Speaker B: Think about how many times he was just straight up on his ass today. Not like I watch. [00:18:34] Speaker A: I grade every single snap these offensive linemen take every single day. I. I look at it more than like 99.9 of people. He's not been good. Like, he's getting worse. And the most concerning part is that, like, he's messed up assignments in past weeks where, like, before the play, he's like, trent, what do I do here? And Trent's like, who do you want? I'll figure the rest out. [00:19:00] Speaker B: Just do something and I'll figure it out. [00:19:03] Speaker A: And you just see Jake Brendle just go. His soul leaves his body. [00:19:09] Speaker B: You need to pay me so much money. First half, Niners nine. First downs, eight passing. Yeah, commanders didn't have. Look at. [00:19:22] Speaker A: They're going to put up 50. [00:19:23] Speaker B: Frankly, it was 23. [00:19:27] Speaker A: And. And aside from the McCaffrey fumble and like, one tip, it's probably like 34 to 3. [00:19:35] Speaker B: Yeah, that tip by Luvu was an easy touchdownre or juice. I don't know who it was intended for, but, like, they were both wide open, right? The Commanders. The commanders had 90 yards in the first half. The 49ers had 303. And yet the commanders had a chance to win that game on the final snap. [00:19:55] Speaker A: Obviously, almost was, like, not quite as bad. Remember that Lions game a few years ago where, like, it got real squirrely at the end and, like, Kiddo botched, like, an awesome. [00:20:03] Speaker B: Bears just did that yesterday. The Chicago Bears went Full Lions Week 1 yesterday. It's brutal. It was a brutal. But that. The difference is that the 49ers defense, like, okay, they are to blame because the secondary was really bad. I thought Jair Brown had two really bad busts in this game. I thought that. [00:20:25] Speaker A: Thought Green was kind of bad. [00:20:27] Speaker B: Who was Green? [00:20:28] Speaker A: I thought he had some mistakes. [00:20:30] Speaker B: He was more than kind of bad, Jake. He was like. He wasn't there. This was. [00:20:34] Speaker A: I don't know what that was it. [00:20:36] Speaker B: I think he started reading his press clippings. [00:20:38] Speaker A: He wasn't driving on the ball. He was just like. Like, he would, like, play it well, and then he would just like, oh, I have to, like, cover him. Breaking out of his route. It's very strange, immediate. [00:20:49] Speaker B: I mean, the first play of the game for the Commanders, he sits in cover two. Jaden Duggar standing right next to him, like, what are you doing here? And then Jair Brown is back there as a single high because they rotated, and he's like, oh, shit, I got to get all the way over there. But, like, also, Jair, like, I don't know, maybe when you see the man breaking wide open for 15 yards prior, you make a little bit of a run, but he's like, oh, no. Jaden Daniels has the ball. I need to look at that. [00:21:13] Speaker A: Also, the fact that they, like, benched up to stab for Ashton Davis, who's got awful. Kyle just lying about that. [00:21:19] Speaker B: Like, he's a good blitzer. He had two nice blitzes. [00:21:22] Speaker A: Yeah, he did whiff on one. But, like, he. He got to be bad in coverage multiple times. [00:21:29] Speaker B: I mean, Nate Hobbs, come on down. We talked, but, like, I don't think we talked about anything in the. We tried not to break down this game. We really tried because the Washington Commanders bored us to death. We put in countless hours, legitimately hours of our life watching the Washington Commanders, and our takeaways were like. [00:21:48] Speaker A: And then they did the thing that, like, we were like, ah, they could maybe. They could maybe do the thing that they do where they make it interesting at the end. [00:21:55] Speaker B: Sure, let's go with that. But, like, what. What do we predict out of that one? Like, Height was going to have a field day. That happened. My man Kalon Black is going to be in a pony formation, and he's going to catch some balls. That happened, too. What was the other one? Oh, safeties. We're gonna have a tough day. And they did. [00:22:13] Speaker A: They did. [00:22:14] Speaker B: Except Malik Mustafa is like, no, I'm done with this tough day. I'm just gonna start taking over now. I mean, it was. It was. That was those final two plays right next to each other. McNichols could have ran into the end zone. If he makes. Yeah, Mustafa miss there, it's a touchdown and the game's over. And he did have almost a touchdown before that. And then it was a hold. I mean, that was a hot message. [00:22:38] Speaker A: Listen, it's. By the way, it's. It's David Bailey and then everyone else. But I will say, like, if height gets those two sacks that he deserves, like, he got one ripped away, like, he's kind of right up there in the. In the rookie of the year competition. I'm just saying. [00:22:51] Speaker B: Well, we advocated for that the second he was drafted. It's amazing. [00:22:55] Speaker A: I'm just saying, it's like, it's. It's what we thought it could be. And he sells a club on his hand. [00:23:00] Speaker B: Well, it's amazing what happens when you just let the guy do what he was brought on the team to do instead of having to Bryce Huff them and be like, by the way, are you good with first and second down? No, no, no, no. I was not. I don't. I don't speak that language. Like, you can't just dump me in that country and ask me to get ahead. [00:23:15] Speaker A: They just. They have the perfect balance of pieces on the defensive line right now. They have, like, every sort of smoke. [00:23:23] Speaker B: How. I mean, it's unbelievable. They've RU17 defensive linemen, and they've somehow stumbled into, like, a legitimately elite unit. [00:23:30] Speaker A: They've, like, legitimately, like, if you want to talk about it, like, it's like, height is this, like, true springy, like, speed rusher. You've got Mikel, who's like a. Like a early down edge, but, like, is like, actually getting home with really basic bull rush pressures. You've got your chart like a Menahu Arden key type, and Keon White, who's playing much bigger than those guys ever did. You've got osa, who's Just like a force that consistently closes the pocket. You've got like a little guy who in Grayson Holton who's doing everything, got like a run stuffer, like power guy and Sebastian Valdez. Khalid Kareem is like a power run stuffing edge Ogbo, but like, is at least like a little change of pace or something. [00:24:17] Speaker B: That's like the Ogbo, right. Nick Bosa role. [00:24:21] Speaker A: To just replace Ogbo with Nick Bosa is like, pretty sick. [00:24:26] Speaker B: It's obscene. Nick Bosa on five snaps a game. Just like, just save it all up, buddy. [00:24:31] Speaker A: You're gonna get home. That's how they should do it until the playoffs is just say, NICK Bosa, here's 20 snaps a game. Get home every time. [00:24:40] Speaker B: There's just been so many seasons inside of this season. Like, we're at a point now where it's like, is the 49ers defense an elite unit that can carry this team into Atlanta and get a win just so that they can survive the bye week? [00:24:55] Speaker A: It's, it's. Here's the thing, by the way, we're going to go into this thing where it's like, Atlanta, like, plays one, like, incredible game and then we is like the worst team ever. And there's actually no way to predict what sort of game they'll ever play because they're either like abject garbage or they're putting up like 45 points. [00:25:12] Speaker B: It's simply that Michael Penix has no ability to escape any sort of pressure whatsoever. Yeah, like, he has. He has no capability of making a play, but he can, like, stand. He's kind of. He's Matt Stafford if Matt Stafford was even more immobile. He's Jared Goff. If Jared Goff had, like, no pocket [00:25:33] Speaker A: feel, I don't think he has any cartilage left in either leg. [00:25:36] Speaker B: I'm not blaming the guy. I'm just saying, like, right. It. So long as no one bothers him, he'll make all the throws. [00:25:45] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:25:45] Speaker B: Then there's the whole thing about we're playing NFL football, so, you know, good luck with that. And like the Bears on Sunday. And this is why I hate Monday night games. And this is why I knew it was going to be a weird one. Like when you're. You wake up Monday morning and you're like, okay, I got to watch whatever happened yesterday. And then like, I should probably get ahead on the Falcons film. So I got ahead on Falcons film before the Niners played this game. And so it is. It's just weird. It's just a. I hate Monday night games, they're just so weird. They mess up everybody's schedule and now they gotta go cross country without Mike Body clock in. Yeah, I mean it's, this is gonna be like, I, I, I don't want to pencil it in because I do want to actually like break it all down and try to see and like my general takeaway. My initial thought is, oh, Michael Penix don't move. And they don't move the ball unless Michael Pennix is like unmolested in the backfield. And like last time I checked the 49ers defensive lines pretty sick. So I feel like. [00:26:41] Speaker A: But then sometimes Bijan Robinson gets rolling and your defense gets gassed. [00:26:45] Speaker B: He's very good. [00:26:46] Speaker A: He's. But yeah, yeah, but like I don't [00:26:51] Speaker B: Jeff ulbricht against this 49ers offense. Next week is going to be quite something. [00:26:57] Speaker A: Yeah, it's tough because I don't. Who does, who does Brock throw the ball to [00:27:04] Speaker B: if it's today? George kittle and Christian McCaffrey and K. Lawn Black. And then if he has to go anywhere else, it's only through protest. [00:27:12] Speaker A: I think that, I think like okay, you, you mentioned it before this game but like, I kind of wonder given this the way the game was playing out and that they're like, we can kind of mess around with some stuff. They go, we might need a two running back formation. We're not going to have Evans. We might need both of these guys out there. Are they going to use 31, is 31, 31 personnel? It's gonna be awesome. [00:27:38] Speaker B: They might have used it in this game. I missed it, but they might have, they used Pony at least two times. They might have stuck Juice out there. By the way, like they were gapping like sons of today in the run game. [00:27:51] Speaker A: Yeah, I think both touchdowns were, were gap scheme. [00:27:54] Speaker B: Anytime they got into the red zone, they just became a gap team. It was a beautiful thing to watch. And then you get Juice back in the mix and now you have like fake gap and real gap. And it was, they had something to behold. [00:28:04] Speaker A: An incredible ability to run a variety of schemes in the run game depending on like what it calls for. And yeah, I mean just, it's funny. This is like the game, it's fun. It's like the game that they like gave the Most touches to McCaffrey like out of all year. And yet it still felt like they, you know, they gave back a lot of run and it's still balancing that out pretty well. [00:28:28] Speaker B: I mean, I thought Brandon Cooks would have A bigger role in this game. [00:28:32] Speaker A: He didn't. Gonna need to next week, I guess. [00:28:36] Speaker B: Man, they might just find some rando off the street and be like, Congratulations, DeJean, love. You're actually a 49er now. [00:28:42] Speaker A: What are the odds on, like, Malik Turner, like, actually, like, outperforming Watkins and Cowing and Brandon Cooks? Because, like, it's. It's very possible they're going to have [00:28:53] Speaker B: to come up with, like, a legitimate wrinkle because nobody. First. Brock just does not want to throw it to Watkins. He doesn't. He had one catch for 22. It was a nice play, but, like, he does not want to. And you can see the hesitation. He's like. He's open. Who is it? Do I have to. And that's still there? [00:29:14] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:29:14] Speaker B: Like, that's going to be death against the Jeff Ulbricht defense. I know that they're not the most talented, but, like, he. Where do you think Raheem learned all this? Cool. Like, he's stealing this stuff straight from Jeff Ulbricht and because he wasn't doing this kind of funky stuff before. So I'm just fascinated to see what they do. Like it. I don't think you can just play Watkins at X and be like, run clear out Rods. Because it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you run clear. [00:29:38] Speaker A: Yeah, it's. Yeah. I mean, some. Is Kirk actually going to go for 100 yards receiving? I mean, like, he should play, but will he. [00:29:46] Speaker B: But is he real? Who is to say, right? [00:29:49] Speaker A: The fact that this week, they're like, no. I mean, there's. You just can't feel good about any. Any of it. There's also, like, no. Not that you really need a lot of chemistry, but there's no real chemistry with him and Brock. And I could see Brock still trusting him more than walk it. And maybe that's what it is. It's like, he's not up to speed on the field of what they're actually doing. I mean, we'll find out because they need to put him on the field. [00:30:15] Speaker B: DeMarcus Robinson's out until after the buy, right? [00:30:18] Speaker A: Yeah, it was like a bad ankle sprain. They're gonna bring him and Debo back where, like, they're still. Their ligaments are still gonna not be attached to the bone. They're gonna be like, you have to play. [00:30:29] Speaker B: Here's the question. Is Jacob cowing even on the roster? [00:30:34] Speaker A: I think just from a number standpoint, yes. Like, he has to be, because, like, who else is going to return Puns even though he's been terrible at it, by the way. I like that He. He messes up and he's like, you know what? I'm not gonna mess up again. And they fair catches. When someone's. There's no one 20 yards near him, [00:30:55] Speaker B: he's objectively terrible at it. And he did the same thing last time where he's like, he had the bad fair catch and then he's like, oh, I'm gonna make a play. And it's like, don't make a play. [00:31:04] Speaker A: Right now. There's a ball the. The five yard line going over his head. And he's like, it's Jacob time, baby. It's Jacob cowing time. Let it rip. [00:31:15] Speaker B: It's a. It's like I don't even know if I want to pin. Like, special teams, like, oh, they weren't good on special teams. Like a guy missed a pat. Okay. It happens more frequently than it should, but it happens. And then Jacob Cowing's out here just doing the most in all the bad ways. [00:31:32] Speaker A: Did you like Saran Neal? Absolutely. Clovering, Christian McCaffrey's brother? Where it was funny on the broadcast, like, did he actually call fair catch? And he's like the most obvious. [00:31:44] Speaker B: He called fair catch. Like, as soon as the ball left [00:31:48] Speaker A: Waitman's feet, he's like, fair catch. No one touched me. [00:31:56] Speaker B: Neil was pushed directly in the back into him. [00:32:00] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I don't even blame him. He. He's locked in. I guess he couldn't see it, but he was. And then he's like, what do you mean? [00:32:08] Speaker B: What do you mean? [00:32:08] Speaker A: He called back. [00:32:10] Speaker B: It was so funny though, because they threw the flag and then they talked about throwing the flag for a while [00:32:16] Speaker A: because no one checked to see if he called fair catch. [00:32:20] Speaker B: No one checked. So they throw the flag on the fair catching, like, immediately. And there's a flag, like, right there. And Saran Neal, like, I just can see it now, is going all the way, like the 30 yards to the end zone. Just like, yeah, like, building up the crowd. Like he's Russell Crowe and Gladiator. Like, did you see that shit? This is what I do. This is what I do. And a commander went up to him and just put his hand on his shoulder and pointed at the flag and he's like, what? So, no, he didn't see the fair catch. [00:32:46] Speaker A: He hit him so hard that they were like. He called fair catch. Right, Right. Like, because he's really excited about this. [00:32:57] Speaker B: It was, it was, it was though. Like, he called Fair catch. So early that it was like a play earlier where you're like, but did he, like, does that even count? Like, I. I forgot in the time the ball was in the air, I [00:33:10] Speaker A: forgot that he had called, because nobody does that. No, nobody calls, like, immediately. [00:33:14] Speaker B: Like, no one does it like a college football. [00:33:16] Speaker A: But he had that near muff situation, so he's like, everybody, I'm just gonna catch it. Leave me alone. [00:33:26] Speaker B: Not excited for this tape, Jake? I mean, I'm excited to see, like, all the cool stuff the defensive line did. I felt like I picked that up in the moment. They all also, like, there was one play that I'm really interested to see if there. It could have been done more because it was the third and long, and they ran a screen behind Trent. [00:33:45] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:33:45] Speaker B: You see Trent out in the open space, and you're like, my God, they're [00:33:48] Speaker A: going to do it. [00:33:50] Speaker B: And then the safety came and collapsed in. And I'm like, oh, who missed him? And I'm like, I don't think anyone missed him. I just think that it was a really good play. [00:33:56] Speaker A: And like, yeah, I think they just. They. They didn't have the numbers. It didn't get there quick enough. But there is, like, there's like a moment when Trent gets out in space where everything goes, like, silent in my head. And I just. It's. It's. It's like the montage sound where it's the slow motion montage sound. [00:34:15] Speaker B: And every fire in my mind, every [00:34:17] Speaker A: time it happens, I'm just like, someone's gonna die, and I can't wait to watch it happen. [00:34:28] Speaker B: It was. [00:34:28] Speaker A: It's. There's. I can't like it. And it's happened before where people make business decisions, but if Trent Williams was running at me like that, there's no world in which I don't care how much money you make. No, get out of the way. [00:34:43] Speaker B: He's such a weirdly shaped man. It's magnificent. [00:34:47] Speaker A: One of the greatest athletes in recorded human history. [00:34:50] Speaker B: And there's not a single person who would see that man walking down the street. And outside of probably the million dollars worth of jewelry that he wears, you'd be like, that's. That is not just a professional athlete. That is truly one of the masters of the craft in the history of their game. [00:35:06] Speaker A: I gotta go watch the Larry Allen chase down after this. [00:35:10] Speaker B: Did you see that cut up? [00:35:11] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. [00:35:11] Speaker B: Where they were doing Colby, by the [00:35:14] Speaker A: way, to credit Colby, he had a nice chase down last week. He really gave some effort, had a Nice chance. [00:35:18] Speaker B: Boy can scoot in space. [00:35:20] Speaker A: He can run, he's athletic. [00:35:23] Speaker B: It's almost as if the 49ers draft kind of specifically on that trait. And don't really worry about anything else. You know who else can run like a. Enrique Cruz. [00:35:33] Speaker A: Remember him? [00:35:35] Speaker B: Yeah. He's still on the road. [00:35:36] Speaker A: Can he catch a pass? [00:35:37] Speaker B: I'm telling you. I'm telling you. One of the things that needs to happen this year, because they're 60 now, the Rams are in total free fall. Seattle's offense is a joke. A joke. And until they get a real running back who will make play action viable. Sam Darnold's dead on arrival. He's looking like Panthers and Jets Sam Darnold, as opposed to Vikings and even Niners Sam Darnold. But if you don't have play action with Sam Darnold, he can't do anything because those linebackers can just drop every time and he doesn't see him. They just don't exist to him. So that's brutal. I mean, the Cardinals, I guess, are feisty. I don't know. [00:36:13] Speaker A: Listen, we. We were in on the Cardinals early, buddy. And by in on the Cardinals, all [00:36:17] Speaker B: we had to do was be over three and a half. [00:36:18] Speaker A: It wasn't that hard, which is a crazy line. I was like, they got good players. Like, they got some fun guys. They got Buddha Baker who, like, is content to, like, throw his small body around and sacrifice himself on a team that has one win. Like, they're gonna compete. [00:36:33] Speaker B: By the way, Tyler Algier just looking like Persona non grata there. Come home, they can fix you. I promise. I think he just looks slow. Bam. Knight was kicking his ass yesterday. Yeah, but it was all. [00:36:47] Speaker A: I mean, he's never been quick. [00:36:50] Speaker B: No, but that's never been the point. I mean, you just think about the rest of. I mean, there's. There's good teams in the. In the North. The packers have figured their stuff out. They're doing some really cool and funky stuff on defense with Jonathan Gannon. The offense is, like, basically just repeating the Rams model with better and worse players. [00:37:10] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:37:11] Speaker B: Which I guess was always the plan because Matt LaFleur has no new car ideas. I don't know if the Lions are good, but they are kind of fun. The Bears are good and also fun, but not, like, trustworthy. Right. The Vikings have one of the worst offenses in football, but, my God, they're 5 0. [00:37:31] Speaker A: And, yeah, that. That game is going to get so strange in Mexico. [00:37:37] Speaker B: I'm telling you. [00:37:37] Speaker A: I think it's going to go poorly for the Niners, even though I did like, I. There's nothing about that offense or that team that I trust, by the way. I just looking at it, they have, I think, the fewest points scored aside from the Eagles. Well, I mean, of the teams in the NFC, because, like, the dolphins have 70. [00:38:00] Speaker B: Can I say something a little crazy? Because, like, no team in the NFC east should scare anybody. By the way, get your bids in now on any Eagles that you want. They were already selling and now it's everything must go, but including the front office. Well, I don't think. I don't think how he's going anywhere. [00:38:19] Speaker A: Well, that's. Well, you saw what they did. They threw Sirianni out there and they're like, hey, Nick, talk about medicine. In one of the greatest, most like, diabolical issues of all time, like, good luck. Get out there, Nick. [00:38:35] Speaker B: Well, earn. Earn your money because you're about to get a lot of it to go away for a while. Nick. Sir, how he's never getting another hiccup. Actually, that's not true. He'll be the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, but that's neither here nor there. The team that, like, of all the teams in the NFC right now, let's kind of. We know what the north is, but it hasn't really sorted itself out yet. Like, the Carolina Panthers feel like the only other team that has something to it because they're just really well coordinated and Bryce Young's got big boy tight end receivers that are actually wide receivers. And yeah, Chuba Hubbard's good. And like, there's something about Carolina where I'm like, oh, that could be interesting. That's it. [00:39:18] Speaker A: Yeah, they've got. Yeah, they're. They're fun. They play physical. I mean, it's. I do like the thesis of being like, we have a small quarterback, so surround him with large people. [00:39:28] Speaker B: The inverse Kyler Murray. [00:39:30] Speaker A: Exactly, exactly. It's a stat. It is astounding just to look and see that they're three games above Seattle with a tiebreaker. [00:39:37] Speaker B: Like all this to make the point they got some dick around time, which might immediately. They might use up one of those timeouts in the same way they decided not to in this game. What was that? Delay a game on the punt. [00:39:51] Speaker A: That was. Yeah, that was insane. It was like a key moment where they like not a spot on the field where you want to take a delay of game for the punt. [00:40:01] Speaker B: They had three timeouts and it's like you're winning. Like, you don't need your timeout. You're winning. Yeah, like, use one there. Whatever. [00:40:09] Speaker A: It did feel like they came out of the second half. They're like, come on, we'll get one. [00:40:15] Speaker B: And then. But my point is, you got a little bit of time to experiment in the same way. Like, we're going to throw a pony out here this week because we're probably going to need it next week. And, like, second Evans goes out like, pony's our new thing. And they always give these little hints. I need some six offensive lineman sets in my life real bad. And I need Trent Williams to score a touchdown this year, because if it doesn't happen this year, it ain't happening. [00:40:44] Speaker A: I think you're right. I think one of our commenters predicted that it would happen this week, and I didn't think it would, but I. I love where your head's at and [00:40:52] Speaker B: this is a personal thing for me. So I've talked to Trent about this, and it made him, like. It makes him, like, legitimately sad that he's never gotten one. [00:40:59] Speaker A: You see, when Jake Matthews just, like, whiffed for the Falcons, it was right there, and he just, like, got a quarter inch off the ground too early. [00:41:09] Speaker B: It just devastating getting emotional about it. It's big, big boy touchdowns are just the best. [00:41:16] Speaker A: And also just, like, hand it off to him, like, just. [00:41:21] Speaker B: I mean, we've seen them use. First off, they've run a play for it in Jacksonville and it almost worked. Jimmy it up, and I'll never forgive him for that. And then against Green Bay, they used him as a lead blocker in the playoffs. [00:41:34] Speaker A: That was awesome. That was awesome. Where he just. [00:41:37] Speaker B: Let's get back. [00:41:38] Speaker A: I'm gonna go watch that, too. I mean, that was. But then they had to take him out. Kyle's like, well, we do it and it's fun and it's great, but then he has to come out of the game for a snap, and that's really bad. [00:41:50] Speaker B: Why are you paying Vedarian low if you can't use him in circumstances like this? And I know, oh, you have Connor Colby at left guard. You can't just have Vedarian low out there. Did you see what that looked like? It looked like, but you're like, yeah, but you know what? Do cool stuff. [00:42:05] Speaker A: Yeah, it's. I would love to see. Just like, there's no good way to, like, measure a line play in a stat, but just like, imagine this team's not 6. 0 if Federian Lau starting next to Conor Cole. [00:42:20] Speaker B: No, there's no chance this isn't even, like, a vintage Trent performance or anything. Like, Trent is not. [00:42:27] Speaker A: No, it's funny. Like, he. He had, like, an incredible game a couple weeks ago, and then he's been, like, very good as usual. But, like, he's. He's had. He's messed up a couple times. [00:42:39] Speaker B: Can I throw a couple numbers at you from this game? [00:42:41] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:42:43] Speaker B: 49ers defensive line, 4 sacks, 9 quarterback hits, 4 tackles for losses, 2 rushing first downs, 53 rush yards allowed in this game. That's an elite unit. [00:42:57] Speaker A: Pretty sick. Also, we didn't even mention Fred, who's just an absolute lunatic today. [00:43:04] Speaker B: Yeah, he kind of lost it in the second half. [00:43:07] Speaker A: He led with the crown of the helmet, like, five times. [00:43:10] Speaker B: He knocked that dude's helmet off. Yeah. [00:43:13] Speaker A: He legitimately got the penalty overturned just because he's like, all right, it's Fred Warner. I believe him. It's. It's. It's like that clip of, like, Michael Jordan in the Last Dance where he's like, you're sure, Mike? You promise me? You promise me? He gotcha. And then Fred's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [00:43:29] Speaker B: I didn't lead with my head. Don't worry. Don't look up there. Don't look up there. You don't need to see this. [00:43:35] Speaker A: It's just Ralph. Ralph Wickham jumping through the window. [00:43:39] Speaker B: My 4 year old does that, where I'll be like, hey, did you do this thing? And she'd go like, yeah, yeah, yeah. And I go, okay, I'm gonna check. And she goes, no, you don't need to check. You don't. You don't need to check. [00:43:50] Speaker A: He's like. She's like, whoa, whoa, whoa. [00:43:53] Speaker B: A lot of accusations are being thrown around here. Like, I didn't wash my hands after using the bathroom. You don't need to check. [00:44:00] Speaker A: She's like, I'll do it again just so you can see that I did it the first time. [00:44:04] Speaker B: Love doing it twice. It's twice. [00:44:07] Speaker A: Twice as bad. [00:44:08] Speaker B: Did you flush the toilet? I didn't hear you flush the toilet. Yeah, yeah, I did. Okay, I'm gonna check. No, I don't understand. Yeah, I'm definitely in charge of my household. But that was what Fred did, where he's like, no, it's fine. You guys are working real hard tonight. You know, maybe take. [00:44:24] Speaker A: It's awesome. It's awesome to watch him, like, be like, legitimately, like, lovely guy, like, say hi to his family, give his daughter a kiss before the game, and then just go. Let's, like, Literally. Watch the flips. I'm gonna switch throat out. And he. And he does. And he does. Especially without Greenlaw, too. It's like, he's like, I have to do this. Dre's not here to commit a war crime. It's on me. [00:44:47] Speaker B: The other thing, too, is, like, I think Fred feeds off of, like, that energy, right? Like, Fred just loves football so much. He's overwhelmed, for sure. I will say this. Seeing Malik Mustafa celebrate that final play, I'm like, oh, I think that's the first time I've ever seen any emotion other than just serial killer energy from Malak Mustafa. Like, Malak Mustafa makes a big hit, and he's like, next play. [00:45:10] Speaker A: Line it up. Dude. Dude. The hit and then the pass breakup. [00:45:15] Speaker B: Like, the pass breakup was incredible. That was a legitimate suplex. [00:45:20] Speaker A: He injured him. [00:45:22] Speaker B: He grabbed him midair. First off. Great throw. Great play by everybody. [00:45:27] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:45:28] Speaker B: Burks goes up and gets. I really like Burks and Jaden. Good throw. Got to put it up there, right? Like, you don't want to go low. You got to put it up there. And Mustafa comes out of nowhere, grabs him, takes his body, and midair is like, we're going down, and we're coming down hard. He was like. It was like the guy on the back of, like, a. A parachuter who doesn't have their, like, skydiver. And it's like, I'm. We're going down, like, hope. [00:45:58] Speaker A: It's like, have you ever seen those, like, they have those, like, theme parks where people are on those little, like, tiny scooters and they loop around down the side of a mountain, and people are usually, like, breaking really slow. And then there's one person who either has a faulty one or has no desire to live, and they just, like, send it and think it's, like, at the bottom of a slide where someone gets stuck, and then there's just. It's a human missile. [00:46:22] Speaker B: It's me and Vale. So I took. I took my wife to. Then my girlfriend to propose to her. We went to Vail, and I hadn't skied in, like, 12, 13 years. And she loves skiing, and so I. I took her and I got a hotel that had, like, its own chair lift. It was awesome. Like, a brand new hotel. I used all my Marriott points. Classic sports writer. And we get up there, and I'm like, this will be fine. Like, I'll. You know, it's like riding a bike. [00:46:53] Speaker A: Come back. [00:46:53] Speaker B: It wasn't that bad. The problem was the chairlift takes you immediately to, like, A blue. And I grew up in Chicago, and so, like, I'm like, well, I did double black diamonds on that, you know, landfill in Wisconsin. Of course, Vale's a little different. We're at, like, the top. [00:47:09] Speaker A: He did Pawnee Mountain. [00:47:10] Speaker B: Yeah. We're at the top of a 14er, and it's like, this is a blue. And I'm looking at. I go, this is no blue. And they're like, well, there's literally nothing that can be done because you have to ski down to get to, like, the greens. And I skied down it really fast. Really, really fast to the point where about halfway down, she's like, you got a bail. That's how Malik Mustafa approaches every tackle. Me going down the blue without ability to. [00:47:38] Speaker A: That's how I felt in Mount Shasta, where I. It's. It's not a great mountain to ski at. It's. [00:47:44] Speaker B: It's. [00:47:44] Speaker A: It's just ice. And there's one blue that, like, you get off the lift and it's just straight down and there's plenty of space. It's not that hard if you know what you're doing. I didn't. It had been a while. I immediately sprained my ankle bad coming off the lift. Body goes one way, ankle goes the other board goes the other way. The guy's like, do you need help? I'm like, nope. Get on the board. Immediately sprain the ankle again on the way down. And I'm just going on ice, screaming in pain the whole way down. [00:48:13] Speaker B: That's a great preview for the warrior season, by the way. Rolling ankle. [00:48:18] Speaker A: There's a season. [00:48:20] Speaker B: It starts on Wednesday. What else do we need to talk about with this game before we. We head back to the dose? [00:48:26] Speaker A: I got the first half Kittle, the first half Kiddle that I predicted. [00:48:32] Speaker B: Good. That it was there. Would have also liked some second half Kittle. [00:48:36] Speaker A: Yeah, some second half kiddle would have been nice at a certain point. [00:48:39] Speaker B: Washington is inept at a lot of things, but, like, maybe we should guard that guy because he's the only one they want to throw it to. [00:48:45] Speaker A: They just guarded him really well. And then through press and nobody else got open or Brock didn't trust that. That's what I'll be interested to see is actually in the second half. Like, was there stuff available for Rock? Or, like, was it just he didn't want to throw the ball to certain guys because he didn't trust the look? Yeah, I'm curious. I'm curious to see that, but I think we've. We've covered our bases here. [00:49:11] Speaker B: Weird game, weird season, weird game. [00:49:14] Speaker A: Kind of new. There's a. There's a possibility for it to get weird where you want to shrug it off and you're like, but Washington's weird. [00:49:21] Speaker B: Running quarterbacks always give you a chance to be weird. [00:49:24] Speaker A: He throws some balls that are just. That are open, and it's like a low scud. And you. You mentioned it beforehand. You were all over it, but it was like, it's there for you. [00:49:34] Speaker B: He's inaccurate on the run, and he's always on the run. And it's like, the only time that I felt like they. That he. The only time in that game where it looked like he was in his element was when they went empty. And I'm like, oh, get this. The guy who won the Heisman Trophy just out of empty looks and, like, went to an NFC championship game with Cliff Kingsbury when they were empty all the time. Get this. He's a spread quarterback. And the one time they go to empty, it looks right, and everyone's trying. He's good enough to. Where he can convince people, and he is good enough where he can convince people, like, oh, I can do the normal quarterback stuff, but this is where pragmatism versus idealism comes into play. Like, you have the best spread quarterback. Run, spread. But you don't have the personnel now because you have this idea of, like, we're going to turn him into Brock Purdy. It's like, no, no, no, no. You got to let. You got to let the Stallion run. Can't. You can't. Can't break this Bronco. I've run out of analogies. It's late. [00:50:34] Speaker A: There you go. There you go. He's officially cracked. Let's. Let's get to a couple comments. I've not seen the thumbnail choice, which is great. It's funny. I join in here, and then I can't see the thumbnail, so I actually don't know what it is. And then it's always a nice surprise for me after the episode. [00:50:47] Speaker B: We're gonna leave it as such. [00:50:50] Speaker A: Yeah. Washington ran out of time. Niners tried to give away. [00:50:55] Speaker B: I mean, it's just Jake and I, like, texted each other. It's like, we could cry. It's such a beautiful thing watching my [00:51:00] Speaker A: cow legitimately, like, just, ha. Just. He's a fun player, and I'm happy to see him back playing football. And it's, like, immediate, even if he's, like, not dominant. Just the pure force and size also, like, looked better coming off the edge than I would expect was not, like, crazy springy or bendy, but, like, is collapsing the edge relatively well. [00:51:27] Speaker B: I mean, now that. I think everyone's now seeing what we've been talking about for a while with Mikel and certainly with Keon White, like, they're just winning defensive linemen, and both of those guys are force multipliers on their own, but they're also making plays on their own now that stand up by themselves. And it's. That's what makes this defensive line one of the better units in football right now. [00:51:51] Speaker A: And just like every guy. I will say, I feel like I mentioned it, they. When they played against Seattle, there was just like a level of physicality and aggression, which sounds extremely coach speaky and boring. But, like, you actually watch and you're like, oh, no. They. They are playing with a different level of. Of aggression and effort on every play. That's like, you can kind of feel it. [00:52:16] Speaker B: Well, I mean, just think about, like, the mic or. I'm sorry, it wasn't the Mikel. The Mikel had nice reps in that game. Think about the Keon White, like, three pinball from the A gap situation. Oh, by the way, I didn't mention this. You want to know how poorly coached Washington is? They didn't cover the A gap twice on quarterback sneaks. [00:52:36] Speaker A: Pretty bad. [00:52:37] Speaker B: They didn't do it once and you're like, okay, maybe they got caught off guard. They turboed it a little bit. They're running it again. It is the clearest quarterbacks. Brock Purdy's under center. Everyone is up on his ass, and they're like, you know what we should do? Let Jake Brendel run five yards in front. We'll get them, right? [00:52:54] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:52:56] Speaker B: That's bad. That's really bad. [00:52:58] Speaker A: Bad stuff. Washington did a lot of, like, dinking and dunking down the sidelines. There's a lot of, like, rolling out. But I, I feel like they just had a lot of, like, outbreakers that [00:53:10] Speaker B: they hit sense because Upton Stout can't cover them. [00:53:13] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm curious to see that as well. [00:53:16] Speaker B: Like, I imagine. I think, listen, Duggar had a nice enough game. Again, he's well exceeded by levels. I mean, like, legitimate, like, algorithmic levels exceeded my expectations. I don't want to take anything away from him, but I do think that Washington attacked him more than we've seen him attacked in these first two games, [00:53:38] Speaker A: and that checks out. [00:53:40] Speaker B: I think that that's part of it. I don't think he had a bad game. I just think that he was put into the blender a couple times where it's like, we're going to run right at you, and then this guy's going to go to the area that you should be at, and I don't think you're going to get there in time. That. That was my takeaway. But. [00:53:55] Speaker A: And I bet. I bet Atlanta, they. They look sloppy against Atlanta just in a lot of ways. Anyway, we'll get to that. [00:54:02] Speaker B: We got to watch those tapes. [00:54:03] Speaker A: Yeah, I think. Last one here. Did the 49ers hit critical mass on injuries after Evans got hurt, or was it something Washington's defense was doing? I think it was a little bit of both. I feel like Washington got back to a little bit of like. I don't think it's the most complex system in the world that's kind of just like, send the hounds. I feel like they did more of what they've done in prior weeks and said like, we gotta just get home. And the Niners did not have answers without Evans because that usually is their answer. So I think it's a little bit [00:54:35] Speaker B: of a. I mean, just not having him out there allowed the defense to play in tighter confines, and that allowed them to blitz with more impunity. [00:54:44] Speaker A: Even if he did nothing. Even if he literally does nothing. Just the way he has to be accounted for changes what defenses, how they can account for you and how they can guard guys like Kittle. [00:54:54] Speaker B: I would bet that they didn't blitz a single time when Evans was on the field. [00:55:02] Speaker A: I disagree, but I bet it was so. I bet it skyrocketed in the second. [00:55:07] Speaker B: Well, it definitely skyrocketed. [00:55:08] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:55:10] Speaker B: I. We'll find out. It's not going to be that hard to find all the Evan snaps in this game. There's going to be like 18 of them. So I would bet that they didn't blitz once on that. That's my bet. [00:55:21] Speaker A: We'll see. We'll see. I think we. I think we've about covered our bases here. [00:55:26] Speaker B: Yeah. Probably talk tomorrow night about this film. My goodness. Get to watch it again in short order. [00:55:34] Speaker A: Can't wait. It'll break us. [00:55:36] Speaker B: More commanders and then Atlanta Falcons talk. Goodness gracious. Remember when we went from Broncos to Seahawks and we were all geeked up on football juice? And now it's like, here's the Commanders and the. And the Falcons. [00:55:49] Speaker A: I'm pretty mad about it. [00:55:51] Speaker B: Well, then you get a bye week and then you get to watch the Cowboys and the Raiders. All right, we'll talk. [00:55:58] Speaker A: I'm excited. For the Raiders. [00:55:59] Speaker B: All right, that's it for today. Bye.
