[00:00:07] All right, Deeter and Hutch. No Hutch. Just either post game here at Levi's Stadium. We're getting in. We're doing something very rare here on the channel. We're getting in early, and we're able to get in early because, of course, the 49ers got their work done really early. [00:00:27] Really early. It was a little bit touch and go there for a minute. I, I, you got to appreciate that. It was a little touch and go there for a minute. 49ers add two drives in the first half, two Dolphins held on to the ball forever, and we will get into why that was the case. But that's not the story of the game. The story of the game is obviously the 49ers taking the belt to the Miami Dolphins in the third quarter of this contest and just walking away with one. We got some Mac Jones action. We got some Jordan James action. [00:00:59] This thing went into garbage time, I would argue, before the fourth quarter even started. And that is again, going into halftime up 14 to 6. 14 to 6. [00:01:11] And it was over. Over 21 unanswered points in the third. [00:01:15] It was, it was exactly what you should have expected. [00:01:21] Jake and I are usually extremely negative. We can, we understand. I don't know if we appreciate it, but we, we know our shtick, that is our personalities. [00:01:30] Love it or leave it. I guess we can't change now. We're in too deep. This is how we were built. He's from New Jersey, I'm from Chicago. We got some weird stuff going on in our synapses, but when we were telling you how bad the Dolphins were, boy, we were probably sugarcoating it a little bit. That's not an NFL team. [00:01:48] It's not an NFL team. That is a team that is two years away from being two years away. Shout out. Fran Fashilla and the Niners gave him some life, as I think you should have expected. Post Australia, where they're not amped up for this game. How could you be? How could you have what Steve Kerr calls the appropriate fear going into this game? And they're letting the Dolphins have a little fun with it. You guys want to take something, go ahead and take something. [00:02:18] They're not up for it. The offense is up for it. The defense isn't up for it. That makes sense. Defense is about juice. Defense is about energy, and offense is about, you know, raw execution. Right. You can go out there and do it against air. Can't really do defense against air. Not. Not if you're properly doing defense. Not if you're instilling violence. I mean, those would be some pretty unlucky chairs in the ballroom at the team hotel, so. And probably not good for the shoulders, but Niners messing around a little bit and then they come back in the third quarter and guess what? Bang, bang, bang, bang. It was, it was clinical, it was straightforward, it was exactly what you should have expected. [00:02:53] And we got to start with, with the man. We got to start with the guy that you could have gotten at 20 to 1 before this season started to win the super or to win mvp. And that's Brock Purdy. It wasn't perfect, but I can easily recall in my mind the two incomplete passes. One should have been a pass interference. [00:03:13] That would have been the intentional grounding at the. It was his final play of the game. They called it intentional grounding. Clee Farrell or somebody blew up Kalon Black, who was supposed to be the receiver. It was still a throwaway, but they called it intentional grounding. It's obviously an incomplete pass. Should have been a penalty for pass interference. It doesn't matter because the game was over. That's one of them. The other one was a Debo Samuel drop. Other than that, the ball did not hit the ground. [00:03:41] Didn't hit the ground. That is the seventh best quarterbacking game per QBR in the history of that stat, which obviously doesn't go back to Johnny Unitis and all them or even Brett Favre, but seventh best in, let's just call it this century. [00:03:57] Seventh best by qbr. [00:03:59] And it wasn't some bombing it down the field, absolutely wrecking, you know, one on one coverage on the outside, picking on Jason Verrett or something. It wasn't anything like that. It was clinical. It's what we've been talking about since training camp. He's a point guard. He's a point guard. He's a pass first point guard, which makes sense if you're a quarterback and he is just distributing the ball at just a perfect tenor, a perfect cadence. Everything about him right now is in rhythm, including the scrambles of which he was the 49ers leading rusher in this game with 30 yards. [00:04:35] Exceptional stuff. Exceptional stuff. MVP level stuff. Is it against the Dolphins? Yeah. [00:04:41] I didn't see Kirk Cousins doing that last week though. Kirk Cousins looked good. Don't get me wrong. He won again today. Don't get me wrong. Kirk Cousins look good. Kirk Cousins also threw two interceptions against this Dolphins team. Did Brock Purdy even come close to throwing an interception in this game? Not by my view. Maybe I had the bad angle up in the press box. He was pristine. [00:05:00] Pristine. 20 of 22. 280, 87 yards. Yes. 287 yards. Two tossing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown. [00:05:10] 30 yards rushing. And the rushing is really what kept drives going in the first half because the Dolphins were doing a really good job of selling out in both directions. They totally sold out to stop the run on running downs and they totally sold out to stop the pass. Unclear passing downs. Now, the Niners had some moves here. There was a lot of play action in this game, as Jake predicted, trying to pull those linebackers in and they were moving the ball there. But when it was a clear rushing down, a clear passing down, the Dolphins were committing 8, 9, 10 guys to stopping that. And with the Niners, when they only have one man to man separator, and that being Mike Evans, he got the bracket if not triple teamed. Brock's looking around saying, hey, this looks like man to man to me. I'm gone. And he was 30 yards big. Big rushes look great, looked absolutely fantastic. There's really not many more superlatives I can give to Brock Purdy. Just two points of note though, on his performance, and one of them even goes back to last week. Kyle Use Check talking after the game with George Kittle at the podium, if you haven't seen that yet, apparently they're doing a comedy duo thing right now. And boy, they really did look like they were shaking down a small business in New Jersey at the podium today. But Use Check had the play. It was a 17 yard pass to Evans over the middle in the third quarter. [00:06:27] And use Check and Evans were in the same spot roughly. I think there's about three yards of separation, but they were at the same spot on the field horizontally and Purdy threw it and hit Evans. Because if you have the choice between a fullback or Mike Evans, you go to Mike Evans on that play. Use Check. Just misread his. His Q or whatever you want to call it. He. He misread his read on what he should be doing. He should have been shallower there because he misread what kind of coverage Evans had against him. I think he read that Evans had the corner on him, had inside leverage, turned out to be outside leverage. An easy mistake to make considering that the Dolphins weren't really sure which leverage they were playing with either. Regardless, both Use Check and Evans are going to the same spot and ball's going over. Use Checks head. [00:07:15] He's fallen to the ground. He's thinking, oh no, that could be an Interception. It's a pass over the middle. It goes to Evans and use checks like. Well, I should have known better. It's not like Brock throws interceptions anymore. It's a good line. [00:07:26] The second one is use check. Brought up. I was talked a little bit to him in the locker room about this. It was more of the same, but brought up the. The touchdown pass to DeMarcus Robinson in game one, the big one over the top that got. I believe it was Camp Kitchens, the safety. And Jake and I talked about this and how great of a design it was. Apparently on that play, DeMarcus Robinson's the alert. And the alert means either third, fourth or fifth option on the read, right? First read, second read. And then if you can get there, that's the alert. And you can change it up. And it's at the quarterback's discretion. DeMarcus Robinson being the alert on that play is insanity. [00:08:01] It's insanity that not only with again, just a smidge of indecision that we saw. [00:08:09] It's insanity that Brock was able to process that and deliver that ball in the way that he did that. That's insane. That is someone who. And I said this a bunch of times in training camp. I really meant it then. I think it's manifesting now. The Dolphins are not necessarily the best case study for this, but I don't expect these things to change. Even if the numbers won't be as good as they were today, probably ever again. [00:08:31] But this guy is operating like Neo in the Matrix right now. Everything is moving slowly for him. He is processing everything that he possibly could because the game is not fast. And when you watch a guy like Malik Willis, who is a one read Jimmy, you realize the difference between good and great in this league at quarterbacking is just the ability to see and the ability to act with conviction and to trust that what you're seeing is correct. [00:08:59] And there are a lot of really good quarterbacks in this league who don't have that. The best of the best quarterbacks in this league do have that. And then we get into physical separators beyond that. It's like a Josh Allen and the Patrick Mahomes. They absolutely operate at that level. Maybe not at Brock's level today, but if they were to play the Dolphins, I think they do something similar at the same time. They got absolute howitzers for arms and Josh Allen has 80 rushing touchdowns. So you can then find the differentiation there. There's not 10 quarterbacks in this league who are seeing the field and acting with the conviction That a Brock Purdy is right now, and I think that's going to manifest throughout the year. And it might even be five, it might even be three, it might even be two. I don't think it will end up being one. There's always another great quarterback, but what Brock Purdy's doing right now is absolutely insane. [00:09:45] Doing it against the Jet Lags, Jet Lag Rams team, You got to take some caveats there. Doing it against the Dolphins deserves a whole addendum of caveats. The Cardinals, we'll see. But I expect this to continue because if you're seeing it this clearly now, the confidence is just sky high. He is ripping it all over the field. He is not confused by anything. And if there is a play that's not working, he's either making it work by hitting Evans over Kyle Juszczyk with a perfect throw. That Juice. That Juice can't catch and Evans can. Or making something happen with his legs. And he's looking spry. He's just. He's. This is it. This is it. It's going to be hard for Brock Purdy, and we'll see. I mean, there's a long way to go, and one twisted ankle can change everything, but. And perhaps it has already with the. The depth at the receiver position for the 49ers. But the way that he's going right now, this should be his best season ever. It should be his best season ever. Say hi to David Lombardi, everybody. He just walked in on us, so I'm just. [00:10:44] I see a lot of bad quarterback, and I covered the college game for a long time. When we watch college tape, the first thing everyone's looking, oh, can he run? What's his arm like? I care about how he looks at the field, how he sees everything. Because if you can't see it, you can't do it. Brock Purdy sees everything right now, and he has eyes in his back of his head. He's. He's out here. What's that? Pan's Labyrinth. He's got eyes everywhere. [00:11:04] It's kind of disgusting how many eyes this dude's got. Let's talk about some other great players in this game because they were sure a hell of a lot of them. [00:11:12] Grayson Halton played fantastic in this contest. I thought Grayson Halton was the one good defensive tackle in this game. Don't worry, we will get to duds later. And boy, were there a few of them. Let's talk about the defense. I thought Jair Brown was exceptional against the run today. That is The Sam linebacker, folks. That's the guy. [00:11:31] Roll with him at Sam, find another safety and play him as a big nickel Sam. It's the answer. He was great. Crashing from the edge at five man fronts. I thought he was fantastic today. [00:11:43] Listen, it wasn't perfect. Special teams is still something that leaves something to be desired. [00:11:49] But it is. [00:11:52] It's really fun watching him near the line of scrimmage and there are plenty of opportunities for that when it comes to how teams are playing, especially with heavy personnel these days. He's an asset to this team, even if it's in a very bespoke circumstance. I thought Dre Greenlaw was immense today. The coverage is still going to suck. It sucked before he left for Denver. It sucks now. That does not matter because that dude sets a tone. And I know that sounds cliche and vague and kind of it's just duh. It just sounds like brain dead analysis. It exists here. It exists here. This dude is out here committing war crimes as Jake likes to say. And he is correct. He is committing war crimes when he hits somebody. And when the defensive line does its job and actually allows linebackers to crash in in the run game, the running backs stay hit and they consider getting on LinkedIn and saying they're open for work. I thought Dre Greenlaw was ruining dudes careers out there. It was really fantastic. I don't think Malik Washington's ass is ever going to be the same as after Dre Greenlaw hit it. I mean, I know, I know that sounds ridiculous and it is kind of funny, but he hit him in the hip so hard that Malik Washington was like, yo, I'm going to get up but boy, I might not want to come back in this game. In the same vein, Upton Stout. What do we always say about Upton Stout? He's a little out there. [00:13:18] The best kind, the highest compliment. [00:13:21] Just he gave up a lot today. Don't get me wrong, there were a bunch of edges that he didn't set. He missed a couple tackles in the open field. Whatever happened on that Miller touchdown was entirely on Stout. And at the same time all of that happened. And he was unquestionably a stud in this game because he was everywhere. He is an absolute lunatic. I mean this with the highest praise. He is here for a good time, not for a long time. Every game that he's on the field, he's an asset to the 49ers. He was fantastic today. The there was nobody on the field on defense that was operating at his level and that includes Fred Warner. He was, he was a lot. [00:14:02] He was a lot in this game. And I love to see it along those lines. I thought Marquis Siegel had another good game. He didn't get that interception. Predictions were a Romello height sack. He technically got it the cheapest of all sacks. It was a zero yard scramble, but he got the sack. I thought Siegel was going to get an interception. Never really came his way. [00:14:26] Fair enough. He also absolutely ruined a man on special teams. [00:14:31] Again, it's the Dolphins. I don't want to read that far into it, but you're supposed to do what the Dolphins, what the Niners did to the Dolphins today. [00:14:39] Allowing for a little bit of lethargy at the beginning of the contest, knowing that you're coming off of the trip from Australia knowing that it's really hard to get up and get juice to go play a Dolphins team that is actively not trying to win. [00:14:55] They're actively. Not. They. They. If they. I thought that they had a little more to them. I thought that there were enough players on this team and Jeff Halfley's a good enough coach and I still believe he's a good enough coach. He's kind of getting in the Will Hardy zone right now. Shout out to those who know. Shout out to the hoop heads. But I, I thought there was more here and in that division in the afc. They had a chance to win a couple, right? Not enough to like knock them out of the number one seed for, for Arch Manning or whomever it might be. [00:15:22] But Dari Mensa or. But I thought that they'd be able to win a game. I'd be shocked if they win a game this year. [00:15:29] It's easy to say that after they just got their asses caved in. Certainly not every team is on the Niners level. But I'm not sure what the Niners are yet. I know they're good. I don't know if they're great. And we won't know for a minute. Now. [00:15:42] Arizona is the first normal test of the season and it's Arizona. So. And they could have lost 38 to nothing today. [00:15:51] So we are in a holding pattern there, but trending certainly towards optimism, which is a crazy thing to say on this channel. And then I just, again, I'd be shocked if the Dolphins won a game because I think they gave the 49ers their best in the first half. That might be as good as they play all year. They didn't score a touchdown. [00:16:11] I thought they're. I knew their defense would be abysmal. I knew it'd be abysmal. Of course it'd be abysmal. They don't have any dudes in Seiler. Who's the one guy who you could have considered had you not paid attention to football in a while? Like, oh, that guy was really good at one point. Well, he's awful now. It's over. It's over for Seiler. [00:16:28] It's really tough. Watch. And I. I'd be shocked if they win a game. The Browns already won one. The Dolphins. Dolphins are on pack watch here. [00:16:39] Let's talk about the defensive negatives, because that's the only place you're going to find a negative in this game. CJ west was abysmal again. [00:16:48] The pad level needs to get lower. It is not complicated. It is not deer. What the hell do you know? I know that ain't it. [00:16:58] I know that's not how you're supposed to actually play the A gap on defense. [00:17:04] The pad level is so high, snap after snap, the hands are not getting it done. They're not compensating for it. This is a real issue. James Thompson, who had an ankle injury in this game, was on ice skates. All contest. [00:17:18] Of course, the undrafted rookie free agent wasn't the savior here, but he hasn't given the Niners good reps, at least from the. The run defense perspective since they threw him into the mix. Then again, it's ridiculous that there are real expectations on them. That's a dereliction of duty from everybody else. Ose Digizua got pushed around today. He did. He got pushed around today. And if not for Halton, I don't think they would have had a positive at all at defensive tackle. This run defense is going to be an issue and they need to figure this thing out. And they need to bring in bodies. They need to. They need as many big boy bodies as they got. They. They got the guy out of Cincinnati. He needs to play next week. [00:17:55] If CJ west is inactive next week, I wouldn't hold it against him for a second. I think that CJ Gets more run than that. I think that they. There was enough good tape at the end of last year that CJ west deserves some go here, but we are in. [00:18:10] It's already dire when it comes to the defensive line, interior for the 49ers when it comes to the run game, because if they can't do something with the guys they have on their roster, they. They have to change the roster. This team has the capability and we'll see attrition all that good things. But with the quarterback playing the way that it's playing with Fred Warner back there, with a secondary that's got some juice now, with a team that has every reason to believe that they could be as good as anybody in football. As it stands, that is their Achilles heel, pardon the pun. Given that a lot of people on this team have Achilles heel issues. But it is, it is deeply concerning there. I'll also say, you know, just on that same vein, they didn't run the ball that well today. I'm not as concerned about that for the 49ers offense just because the, the Dolphins were completely selling out to stop it. But I'm very curious to see what they're going to do to maybe amplify it a little bit. One note, there wasn't any dash motion in this game in the first half. I don't think I marked it one time. I, I might have missed it. We'll check on the tape. Jake will break it down with all of us tomorrow. But I don't think there was any dash motion. The Niners came out here with preseason stuff and they were still able to do what it is they did. So perhaps it was just as simple as you don't have that gap stuff, that extra man that they have been using so well to open things up. And we're kind of now back to more of first half 20, 25 run game which we all remember wasn't all that awesome for the 49ers that said that Kalon Black kids got juice. [00:19:41] Jesus Christ. You see what he did to that dude in the second half. He juked that guy straight to burling game every time he touched the ball. [00:19:49] Everybody in the stands kind of like tightened up a little bit because it was so much speed just from the mesh point of handoff. He's really, really fun. He cannot see it at all right now. He might never be able to see it, but boy is he going in there with intent. And you gotta love it. You gotta love watching it. And then the other big question for the 49ers, while we're on somewhat of a negative tone, not to dip Kalon Black and all that is the wide receiver depth now. So I, I don't read too much into Mike Evans hips hip injury mainly because I saw him pull himself out of the game after, after Kittle had a deep crosser over the middle. But then he could have all. You know, Purdy could have also hit Evans. He probably could have also hit cowing. There were several dudes who Were not just open, but wide open on that play. I don't think Evans is like pouting or anything, but, you know, it's a big deep over route. He doesn't get the ball. He gives it to Kittle, which makes perfect sense. They wanted to get Kittle going in this game. They had ample opportunity to do so. They did so. But I feel like he's just like, I'm done. Let's call it a hip. I'm a little tight. [00:20:53] If that game was actually interesting, he would have been in it. That's my gut feel on it. That said demarcus Robinson, that ankle, that is not a. A blowout injury, if you will. That's a real thing. [00:21:04] And now, now we got problems. And it's not anything that DeMarcus Robinson was doing, though. He's a very good receiver. He is like bog standard serviceable receiver. He'd be the best receiver on the Dolphins and he'd be the third or fourth receiver on the 49ers or the Rams or. Yeah. And so you kind of see where we're going here. Like Logan Webb's an ace on the Giants. So now you're down DeMarcus Robinson and what you are left with is Mike Evans. You are left with Debo Samuel, who had some moments today, but is not the Debo of old and certainly not someone you can hitch the wagon of the offense to. Though I did like his run in this game. [00:21:47] A lot of Jacob cowing in this game as there should have been a lot of Jacob cowing in this game. [00:21:52] Not anything really of note. He did have a nice punt return that was negated by a very clear Saron Neal holding a lot of holds in this game for the Niners. And that's just again, not being all the way in mentally on this game. And again, they won running away. [00:22:09] So now we are in a situation where I'm fascinated to find out the Niners are going to have to bring in a wide receiver or two this week. [00:22:17] Who is that and what is their plan with that person? There are plenty of options available. Brandon Iuk will not be one of them. It is not a 49ers pride thing. It is a Brandon Aiyuk thing. I cannot say any further because it would be defamatory because I cannot confirm it fully, but there is. [00:22:38] Jordan Watkins is. [00:22:41] You better have a nice week of practice, let's put it that way. Because if Jordan Watkins isn't somebody who is featured in this offense next week and featured, you know, being loose, right? Somebody who is out there is getting, you know, 30, 40 of snaps in the same way that Cowing was today. If he's not out there, then now we can absolutely do the revisionist history because we were saying it in the moment. So now we're going to just confirm our biases of why did you keep him? [00:23:08] If he can't get on the field and be somebody who plays against the Cardinals, then there was no reason to keep him in the first place. If you would rather sign somebody off the street and play them, which the 49ers very well might do at this point in the season as they did last year, what was the point in keeping him on your roster? Fascinated to find out. Fascinating to find out who they bring in and how that all goes down. But these are answers that we'll only get with with time. [00:23:36] What else do we need to talk about? [00:23:38] I mean Kittle, Kittle. [00:23:42] Kittle was not great today when it came to blocking and things of that nature. But he, it was good to see him open it up a little bit. Interested to see some of the next gen stats because they'll have the tracking numbers on him and to see in all that open field because there was nobody near him a lot of times fascinated to see what he was able to get up to as a ball carrier. No one's expecting George Kittle. I, I still clearly phrase this as part of his recovery, right? Like it's not like everything's hunky dory. He is not George Kittle. This is part of his recovery. That's pretty good game to have as part of your recovery, right. Like that's a real impressive positive for him to have as part of his recovery. And as if we didn't already know this, kind of vitally important to this 49ers offense. The whole point was that he could have been of having a bunch of receivers and now a couple good running backs. Jordan James had a nice run against, I don't know, Nova Southeastern University walk ons, which is what the Dolphins were playing late in the game. But like you have McCaffrey Fantastic. You have Evans, fantastic. You don't have Robinson anymore. You're not going to make a passing game out of Kyle Use check. [00:24:51] Debo is what Debo is. [00:24:53] You're not really getting much from Luke Farrell as a pass catcher though that could change at any minute. [00:25:00] Kittle was supposed to be insulated this year. That insulation is all gone. It's all gone with Purdy. [00:25:06] I'm sorry, with Piersol and Stribling and now Robinson. All the insulation's gone. [00:25:12] And what happens when. Now every team is going to focus on George Kittle, but no one really knows what Georgia is. What happens when the Cardinals spend all week knowing that they have to stop George Kittle? How's that going to look? Can George elevate the game a little bit more to where he can still do what he did today, which is four catches for 80 yards. That might be a bit lofty, but can he still pull that off? Or does it look more like week one again? Fascinated to find out. But he looked. [00:25:39] He looked like his old self. [00:25:41] Just for a day. I'm hoping it's not an old yeller. Just give him one last day to run the field and we'll put him down and out of his misery. I don't think that's it. But incredible that he's even on the field. I mean legitimately jaw dropping that he's on the field. [00:25:56] But now we get into the nitty gritty. Now we get to actually find out the tests because the insulation around them is no longer there. I'll also note, I don't think I noticed Connor Colby at all today. That seems like a good thing. [00:26:07] Again Dolphins, but a good thing. A good thing nevertheless. A lot of good things for the 49ers today. 7.8 yards per offensive play. That'll do. [00:26:19] 5 of 7 on third down. The Dolphins were like unbelievable in the first half on third down. [00:26:25] Just again pristine stuff. Brock 20 of 22, 13 yards. He completed all 10 of his 10 yard air yard passes today. No one's done that since 2021 per next gen stats. It's the seventh best QBR score in the history of QBR score. [00:26:43] It's great stuff. This is what an MVP looks like. And again given the circumstances around him and totally predictable circumstances to the point where an idiot like me can foresee it, he's gonna have to keep playing like this. He's gonna have to keep playing like this because the 49ers need everything that he's gotten, maybe even a little bit more in order to continue to win games at this level. That said, if Brock's playing at this level, exceptionally difficult to pick against this team. Exceptionally difficult. It will not always be this good but boy, this is. This is what having a franchise quarterback's all about. [00:27:21] Carry us home, baby. Carry us home. Brock, let's do some questions. I'm running out of steam. Was up at 5:30 this morning. Don't have kids. People that said, you know, Niners and Dolphins Made it easy for me in that. [00:27:36] Not a lot to break down. Again, fascinated to see some of the stuff on tape here. Really excited to see Jair Brown and maybe get a better understanding of what was working, what wasn't and how that can be pushed forward. Really interested to see the. The totality of Kittle's game because you just don't notice it all that often, which is probably a complimentary thing when it comes to the run game. And then you definitely noticed him on the. In the past game. Fascinated to see what's going on with the defensive tackles beyond what the obvious was. It might just be the obvious stuff. Those guys are getting blown off the line again and again and again. Now they got some big boys now on Miami. They got a Pro bowl level center in Brewer, though I don't think he's playing at that level. Kaden Proctor didn't have a great game today, but he. He a big boy. [00:28:18] If there was any disappointment in this game for the 49ers, it's that they didn't use the opportunity to get Trent Williams's touchdown. [00:28:25] I'm going to keep banging the drum. [00:28:27] Trent needs a touchdown. I don't know how much longer the big man's got. He doesn't have a touchdown. They've tried one time. Apparently they're not going back to it. Today would have been a good day to get Trent a touchdown. Vedarian Lowe's healthy. [00:28:38] You could have gotten Trent a touchdown. [00:28:40] Now, perhaps the Niners weren't in a situation because it did. Were they even in the third down at all in the second half? I mean, I'm looking in the third quarter. Like it's not good. And the solution is pretty straightforward. You're going to need better defensive tackles and I'm going to be spending some time probably tonight while I'm re watching this game which again hazard pay though, you know, I guess there's some upsides. I kind of enjoyed watching the Raiders in week one. I mean it's like, oh, the Raiders are doing some fun stuff. Glenn Kubiax, you know, looking pretty good. All this stuff. You know, they could steal that play here. But then you have to watch the Dolphins on the flip side of it and you're like, oh boy. I mean they look like southeast Louisiana State going to Austin to play a money game. [00:31:31] I'm again, I mentioned this to a couple of folks in the press box. Again, I'm mentioning it for the first time. [00:31:38] A lot of people like to do the sort of hypothetical could college team beat pro team? They did that with the Browns for a long time. [00:31:46] I still do not believe that college team can beat pro team. [00:31:52] But in this era of nil where guys are staying longer and you can accumulate incredible top end talent on your roster via money, I'm not sure Texas or Ohio State wouldn't be able to give the Dolphins a game. [00:32:06] Just saying. I'm not. I don't think they'd win. [00:32:10] In fact, they'd probably lose by 20 points. [00:32:13] It might be like today, but it might also be a game in the first half. [00:32:18] That's inauspicious for the Dolphins. [00:32:21] They're two years away from being two years away. But yeah, the run defense is this team's number one issue. Second biggest issue, wide receiver depth. Third biggest issue, tight end depth. [00:32:30] Two of those things. Well, one of them, I don't know. I don't know if the wide receiver depth thing could have been preventable. There were a couple of things obviously, like keeping walk ins, all that. Where you go, oh, not so sure about that. But I don't know if that qualifies as like preventable. Tight end depth was absolutely preventable. [00:32:45] It was entirely preventable. They did not bring in any tight ends in free agency that could truly compete in free agency. They kept Luke Farrell because they just didn't want to do it. And then they didn't draft a tight end and they brought in Khalil Dinkins who they're not going to play. And in that you go, okay, well why would you do that? Did you feel so comfortable with George Kittle's recovery? They'll reverse engineer to say yes. The real issue is they didn't have a tight ends coach until after the draft. [00:33:15] And Cameron Clemens, who seems like a pretty good tight ends coach to me, has been assistant there for a while. He was acting in the interim. But when you have an entire team that uses their scouting department as basically a first pass through and then every. And then your assistant coaches actually run your pro and college personnel departments through film study. [00:33:37] When that's the case and you don't have a tight ends coach, you don't end up with any new tight ends. And now you're in a position where with Jake Ton just out for the year, and I'll again note, because I'm a terrible person in the funniest possible manner now you don't have any real viable backups. You're playing Braden Willis again. Braden Willis, who you can cut with impunity because no one's ever going to pick them up. These are, these are concerns. These are concerns. That said, when you have a quarterback playing like this. You know, the Bills have a lot of concerns, too. I'm not big on their defense, and I'm not sure about their depth on offense, but they got that guy, so what's it really matter? Maybe Brock Purdy is at that level. We'll know by the end of the season. We'll probably know halfway through the season. But he needs to be there. He needs to be there, and that is the concern. [00:34:21] Brock is just a machine. Ball goes down the assembly line to perfection. This is what I'm talking about. There's just. [00:34:29] It's a metronome. It's a tempo. There's a musicality to all of it. It is. [00:34:35] He's operating like a guy playing on a level of Madden that he's not. He's too good for, you know, like, what's up the game here a little bit. It's. It's there. I mean, yeah, Evan's probably all right. More worried about D Rob. Real Griff. The D Rob things bad. [00:34:50] It's a high ankle sprain. It's several weeks. I don't think it's going to be as bad as, like, striblings, but it doesn't look good when you get carted off. Not a great sign. And when you are getting carted off and you've already pulled off all the tape on your wrists because you know you ain't coming back in. [00:35:07] That's weeks. [00:35:08] That's weeks. That's not. I mean, even to the point, if you think about the play that it happened, I couldn't really pinpoint when it went down, which actually made me think it was something more sinister than just a high ankle sprain. And I guess we'll find out with an mri. But he didn't get touched on that play. He was wide open on a crosser and he. He twists his ankle so he goes down after he catches the ball. He could have gotten up and ran into the end zone. Now, maybe he doesn't make it. Maybe he does, but it. He was trying to. His body didn't cooperate. [00:35:45] The man turned down a touchdown because his ankle was hurt so bad. That's a broke. Well, not broken, but that's a. That's a hurt ankle. A real hurt ankle. [00:35:54] A minor trade for a wide receiver. A lot of teams are having wide receiver issues right now. A lot of teams are injured at wide receiver. I'm not sure there's a minor trade to be made at the moment. [00:36:04] The other thing too is there's so many young wide receivers that there are a lot of veteran receivers that don't have jobs. That is obviously always going to be Kyle Shanahan's shopping aisle. Veteran wide receiver, someone who's done it before. I'm gonna have to dive a little bit deeper into all the ufa. Spotrack has a somewhat okay list of guys who are available. I. I have heard tell of a different database that I'm going to ask for access to tonight. [00:36:30] I am. [00:36:33] I'm curious if there's anyone who's worked for Kyle before who is currently unemployed and come on down on practice squads. There's a few, but most of them are younger and I'm not sure they could really qualify as working with Kyle. I'm talking. I have caught a pass for The San Francisco 49ers in the regular season and I am available as in on a practice squad or unsigned. [00:36:57] Nobody is particularly coming to mind. [00:37:00] Darius Slayton is going to be a name that's going to be talked about. It wouldn't shock me if they signed him. It definitely wouldn't shock me if they didn't though he does not seem to me, knowing what we know about Darius Slayton, like a Kyle option. You also have to remember that Christian Kirk is coming back here after week four. [00:37:18] Saw Christian Kirk and his baby. Unbelievably cute babies. [00:37:22] Just shockingly good looking babies. But he, he's living a good life. Good for him. Congratulations to the Kirks. But he, he should be back for week five. [00:37:32] What that means, who knows. It is now again we. I'll repeat myself. This is the most important week of Jordan Watkins professional career. [00:37:40] And this is a guy who has kind of been on the fringe since he got here. He needs to show why the Niners have kept him around and refuse to cut bait. [00:37:53] They need to look at Jordan Watkins and say we don't need to sign anybody. [00:37:57] They'll probably bring somebody in on the practice squad and if that guy gets called up and even if Jordan, whoever gets the most snaps between the two of them, if Kadero Hodge is getting more snaps than Jordan Watkins, then you know, we're probably doing a victory lap on what the hell were we doing with with Jordan Watkins at the end of camp. [00:38:16] Here we go. Benali always brings it in. The 49ers last three games. Purdy's been the team's leading rusher twice. Was the run game being fixed last week or was it Rams just not showing up? I bet it's more the latter. [00:38:27] I also do think that the Niners were able to schematically handle what the Rams were throwing their way a lot better. Right, because the Rams were in a lot of lighter personnel. [00:38:37] They were a little bit more spread out. [00:38:39] The Dolphins are just chaos machines. They're trying to scheme their way out of their talent deficiency. [00:38:45] When that doesn't work, it looks really bad. [00:38:49] But they were. I do think they're a well coached team. They just don't have the dudes and they're not even close to having a few of them at this point. They're running some really complex stuff on both sides of the ball and they had a lot of really good run plays defensively dialed up for when they thought the Niners were going to run or they had tells on when the Niners were going to run. That's not special. That's not unique. That's not something that every other team is going to look at and say, oh, the Dolphins had, if everyone knows, kind of more or less. The probability of the Niners running here is high. Right? [00:39:20] That's basic NFL coaching. [00:39:22] If I can figure it out on NFL Pro, then a team of people who do this for a living can figure it out. Not that they're always that smart or that I'm even qualified, but that's tiddlywinks, frankly. And. [00:39:36] But when they, when they did have something dialed up, they had it all the way dialed up. And that's why the play action works so well in this game. [00:39:43] They had to fully commit to everything. And I think that that was more of the issue. [00:39:49] They were just bringing more guys than the Niners could block. And Christian McCaffrey wasn't making dudes miss. And that, I think was more of a credit to the Dolphins properly playing the run, which is the easier of the two things to do when you have a young NFL team than it was to anything the Niners were doing. Arizona is going to be a test, though. Arizona runs that tight front. They got a bunch of different things going on. They're excited to get into their tape because they have done some pretty interesting things, at least from casual viewing at this point. [00:40:18] I'm interested if I come away with the opinion that this is a game that the Niners need to run the ball in. Also, again, just to go back and note, they weren't doing the stuff that they've been doing to get the run game going. They weren't doing dash motion. They ran it on every single freaking play against the the Rams. And I it ran it once or twice. I do think that. Sorry, someone mentioned this in the chat that they ran it on like the first play and then didn't do it again. They did do it of course on the spider. Yeah. Spider 2Y banana. That use check scored, which is the same play from a different formation that Brock scored his first touchdown with with the 49ers against the Dolphins here at Levi's Stadium in 2022. Spider2y banana. Of course John Gruden's favorite play, mainly because it has a really hilarious name. [00:41:01] But they ran that play with some people call banana motion. I'm just going to call it dash work to perfection. You could see it from a mile away. It's really good stuff. [00:41:12] But yeah, not a lot of dash, not a lot of, not a lot of window dressing. It was kind of do whatever the hell you want, Dolphins. We're still gonna kick your ass. [00:41:20] Here we go. Kittle's still not 100 but some more scoot in his routes today. Yeah, listen again I'm very interested to see where he's at compared to where he was at and compare some of his next gen stats. The, the Stallion had room to run, right? Like when he was open, he was all the way the open and he, he could have opened it up. I think that there was a little bit of surprise for everybody that he was able to really pull away. It's a very good sign. It's a very good sign for George Kittle. He's not all the way back. He might never get all the way to what he was back, but he is more than good enough as it stands. And today I think he was better than I would have expected him to have been in those circumstances. Seeing what we saw in week one. I don't know. I'll have to see how he did on the blocks. I didn't note him all that much but the run game didn't go so that might be something there. We'll talk about it tomorrow. [00:44:43] If they can figure out somebody to plug that hole and play As a primary one technique or zero technique or two. I. Whatever. If they can figure out that guy who is just going to be holding up the point of attack in the run game, they have a chance to be a really special defensive line. Now, injuries and all this stuff, but when Mikel comes back, that's going to be really fun. I think height is maybe being asked to chew more than he can bite off right now, but there are flashes where you go, okay, okay, let's keep an eye on that. [00:45:18] Keon White is playing really aggressive football, which, again, kind of burns you in some ways, but that is what they need from him. Bosa looks really, really good. I think he's what was incredible in week one. There's some potential here with this defensive line. I'm not going to say it's like, you know, some truly elite unit, but it could be really, really good. It could be. It could be a strength of this team if they can find a defensive tackle.
